Yeah all the atmosphere. It's like watching a rated G "horror" movie. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was good. Two is still good but it's like playing Quake 3 with stick figures.

I just read gaijin punch's comments about "western dipshits." Okay I'm a little mad here. Actually I'm just disappointed in him because it shows an extreme amount of cultural ignorance from someone on this board that I never thought I'd say that about. How has he not seen any schlocky old school samurai movies? How about just the American Ninja series?

That's very true; even back when I was a kid, I've always seen those blood-sprays & fountains as a very Japanese thing.

I used to think Mortal Kombat was made by a Japanese company until 1999 or something.

Strider is right actually, the screenshots are glorified to hell and it's much less entertaining when you're playing NG2 itself.

Go hang out on a CS/UT/Whatever server for 10 minutes and you'll know who I'm referring to (w00t!). Maybe I had bad luck, but all of my English-language related online gaming experiences have been like live versions of Gamefaqs.

But, back to the point, I'm not saying they're good or bad necessarily. I think adding blood for the sake of adding it is retarded though. You can also argue the flipside for taking it out. Personally though, it seems like most of it these days is for the sake of violence, and not artistic expression.

Since I've grown up on games, it seems like there's a natural progression these days to make them more and more violent just to make them more violent. It's the same with movies, but I started watching movies well after they had plenty of gore in them so violence in movies to me will always just seem natural. Not in games though.

Just my take on it -- I know it's a can of worms. Sorry.

That's just it, the blood was never "added in," it was deleted. Now is the blood necessary for the game? Probably not. Also Ryu doesn't have to be a ninja. All the chicks with Double D's in the game? Yeah let's completely take them out and replace them with cheerful guys in bunny suits. I know what you're saying. You would have a point if schlocky violence and women with comically sized chests weren't already part of the game from its inception. They weren't added in.

It's like "eastern dipshits" complaining if I changed all the effeminate heroes of their Final Fantasy games to look more like the guys from Gears of War.

I also laughed thinking of ninja gaiden's atmosphere as anything resembling artistic. It's artistic the way the movie Commando is artistic.

No, but it's worth questioning in the first place. Same thing w/ DOA's jiggle... necessary? No. I understand that it floats some peoples boats, but it makes me hink that the game wouldn't sell if it was absent. I think NG has enough merits to sell with or without, though. My original point was that I find most violence in games these days tacked on... that's all. Personally I'd rather have it in it's original form if I had the choice, but still doesn't mean I won't voice my opinion.
It's like "eastern dipshits" complaining if I changed all the effeminate heroes of their Final Fantasy games to look more like the guys from Gears of War.
Well, it's the same thing really, just a different touch. Look at VF5... all the male characters are pussified (at least in looks) to draw women players in. They all look like jackasses for the most part. And I'm a huge VF fan. It's the unfortunate state of the gaming world. These are just examples... hardly the only offenders. I will always view it as selling out. I still play VF5 though. Our beloved Cave is an embodiment of this as well.
I also laughed thinking of ninja gaiden's atmosphere as anything resembling artistic. It's artistic the way the movie Commando is artistic.
Well, artistic expression doesn't necessarily mean artistic. I mean, look at Tarantino violence. It's gratuitous to say the least, but I still find artistically expressive. I just don't feel that in game violence.

Back on topic, I may pick this up one day. Just not sure which. The 360 version will be cheaper for a long while, that's for sure.

just lack of blood as far as negatives go.... I'm still excited for the PS3 port for the extra content and boost in visuals, on line play ect.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Finally tried the demo. Never played NG2 before, so I have no opinion on the Sigma vs. original aspect. Seems decent enough, but I'm disappointed/frustrated by the amount of cheap projectile spam and the unbelievably shitty camera.

I can back that up as I'm not bad at the NG series, and Ryu still controls fairly stiff and the camera can get you killed at a bunch of times. Not to mention that there's the whole "enemies waiting around corner" shit going for it, which they deliberately abuse.

That's true, but that's no excuse for a camera that's a slight improvement over Super Mario 64.

Sort of like how shaking the sixaxis causes free jiggle now?

Also, suddenly I question this board's lack of a NieR Replicant 360 vs. PS3 topic. Hint: the difference is boobs, not a penis

the camera never caused me to die..... ever. but I played the hell out of the 1st.

you must use the R1 button to make the camera center... it's designed really around that. plus the PS3 version allows you to max out the camera speed for the right stick also.

Super Mario 64 camera was really good. :x

NGS2 camera still causes me some problems but I've learned by now that jumping, dodging and wall running constantly is the best way to play anyway and stops this being a problem. The last thing you want to be doing is running around hoping someone comes into view without being in a mid-stab animation.

I was kind of hoping there would be some kind of secret blood option, but I knew there wouldn't when I noticed the game was a 16 not an 18. I've played as far as Momiji and she is awesome, I like the aerial essense charge and her counter moves are sweet. I thought she had a sarashi on from the screenshots, how silly of me, when she's craddling that kid the screen is 80% sideboob. Emotional stuff.

That's the kind of "design" that belongs in a game from 1996. Maybe I'll get used to it, but that won't make it any less stupid.

I've played the PS3 version up to the water dragon fight..... I have mixed feelings. I do like a lot of the additional content and the visuals are superior (not night and day though). The new bosses are fun (especially the statue of liberty). I do like most of the new added in content.

I do not like what they've done with removing projectile weapons an UTs with them. The only thing I liked about the changes to the projectiles is the control (you can move while aiming).

The difficulty has definitely been nerfed. Some things I didn't mind as far as that goes but it's much easier now in general. I could go into detail about how I feel about that.... but I would prefer for it to have been not quite so nerfed in some ways.

The difficulty nerf and lack of blood (especially the edited cut scenes) are my major gripes. Still I am happy to put it on the shelf for the visual boost, added in game content and especially the co-op play. But if I did have to choose one... at this point I'd go with the 360.

By lowered difficulty do you mean the missing enemies? I'm wondering if they will still appear on the unlocked difficulties and some were cut because the game is much longer. Removing the water running enemies and extra guys during some bosses didn't bother me too much because they were, at best, tedious. There are a lot of rooms where nothing really happens now, though. They also seem a little less grab-happy, though maybe that's me just abusing the ability where you hold triangle during moves to go straight into a fatality on exit if the context allows it.

Really missing the blood though, there's just no sense of impact. I'd rather they just coloured the blood purple than this silly wispy mist.

I've gone back and started playing the 360 while playing the PS3 version..... there are far less fights in general and the amount of enemies at a time is really nerfed.

Some things, like you mentioned, I am ok with...... like less water enemies ect.

I beat the PS3 version tonight... I like alot of the things they changed, then somethings not so much. I would have to dice both versions up and reassemble them to have a perfect version.

I highly recommend the PS3 version for those that have no 360, or maybe would recommend the PS3 version to those that are new to the game and didn't play 1.

I would recommend the 360 version if you want something that is out to kill you and crave a hard game. Not that the PS3 version is a easy game though.

I finished it on warrior and being honest I think I could win every fight, except bosses, by picking the flails and mashing triangle with the occasional jump or holding of triangle. I'm going to play on mentor and see if the removed enemies are back.

I just want to play the single player game as Momiji, because she's awesome. She only has one chapter and the team missions are kind of disjointed. Speaking of which, the Ultimate Ninja team missions look really hard, not that I've had the balls to try them.

The Edge review of this was less than favourable. They considered it a watered down version of the original rather than an overhaul, and criticised both the camera (still) and that the game had been made easier.

My take on this is, if you loved Sigma 1, you should probably buy Sigma 2. It's as simple as that.

(note: the Limited Collector's Edition, if you can find it, contains exclusive pure white robes for Ryu that provides better visibility during battles... and looks rather cool during combos 8))
