Santaruru also did Zed Blade and some other obscure stuff, I think he re-arranged the various Metal Slug themes for the sixth chapter.

I am thinking that this chapter will not be more difficult than DOJ, but probably they will change something basic in the mechanics. Actually, the idea of the mixed bomb/hyper thing might be plausible...or some smart wait to manipulate bullets, it was a minor aspect in DOJ after all. I'd bet a zenny coin on the changed hyper mechanic, though.

Well it's not.
Best use of bandwidth ever.

Big one or small one?

I think in all seriousness there might be a proximity thing thrown in. God I hope not. I'm sick of going to the top of the screen for points.

Obviously, I'm wet for this, or I would be if I had one, but equally surprised even after the huge hint. Does it say who's doing the art and if IKD is confirmed at the helm? Either he's had a vision he never thought he'd have or the new CEO demanded they capitalize on an IP. I hope I'm being paranoid there.

Right, forgot how much stuff was released in the mean time. Well, at least he is Ikeda 3rd generation games' main composer. :)

Well...If I understand Ikeda (and if he is at the helm), I suppose that a minor mechanic will become the main one (in some evolved form), while others will be downplayed. The result could end up being something quite different. I can't really remember much about DOJ, but I think that any local expert could have a good feeling about possible overhauls.

Small one btw

I dunno... most of his sequels take the main idea and capitalize it (except for Mushi, which throws it all out the window). I don't see him doing that with chaining, and it will definitely not feel "the same". The question is, what's different? We'll find out in about 2 weeks time either way, so no use wasting too many cells speculating.

SuperPang: No word yet, but I'm very curious myself This series was never really about the characters, and I hope it's not now. I would love to see a pillowcase with a spaceship on it at the next Cave Festival.

Omg I never thought cave would do a sequel to ddp after dai ou jou. Guess I was wrong after all. DDP series, ESP Galuda and Ketsui (judging from videos) are Cave's best games in my opinion. I agree with other people saying that a Guwange sequel would be more exciting though, not that this one isn't.

Yes, the helicopter. We all know how important propellers are in space.

These are special helicopters. Cave Engineers dedicated a few pixels for rocket propulsion.
The real thing I'm shocked about, is why we hear the music and the explosions in the space-levels. It's supposed to be so quiet there. :?
I hope they fix this nonsense in Fukkatsu.

Mars has it's own atmosphere, like earth, so it's not 'in space'.

GaijinPunch wrote:I'm really only curious about the difficulty and looping right now. EVery Cave sequel has been harder than it's predecessor. I can't imagine much harder than DOJ. And IKD's not made a looping game since Ketsui.
I think looping is stupid because first loop becomes easy when you're good and wastes a lot of time, not only because you have to memorize twice as many stages but because you have to play the damn easy stages every time you do a bloody run. It's also just boring to play easy stages when you're good enough to play 2nd loop, in my opinion. I'm curious what the best players think about that.

On the other hand it lets worse players get a reasonable challenge in the first loop, but I think mushihimesama's model of one easy, one normal and one hard mode is a LOT more clever. What do you guys think is the point of having a game loop instead of that ?

^ Agree. Loops are not needed when harder modes can be selected.

This could make DDP DFK harder than DDP DOJ and still beatable for normal people.

Anyway, great news, but it was pretty obvious after reading about the Cave Fest. "The Glorious Return of DoDonPachi" and the mecha-loli art was a dead give away, no? GP did a great job of convincingly stating that those clues meant an ESP Ra.De sequel, but I never really understood how he drew that conclusion.

Interesting.

I guess im one of the few that isnt happy about this :/
I smell a PS3 port of this. Gives me a reason to buy one.

Is this game going to be Hi Res?

I was looking forward to a Guwunge sequal/prequal.
Lets hope they give Yagawa the project in Nov release.

A Guwunge sequal gameplay like Battle Garegga but set
in feudal times, the perfect Shmup!

Nice, tho I doubt I will be able to play this anytime soon. And also I am shit at DOJ, so if it is even harder, not much chance here.

As far as ports go, we all know that Sony does not like 2D esp not on their flagship. So I would say a 360 port of this is more likely to happen.
