Why is it that every single one of these guys brings almost every Yasuhiro Nightow villain to mind?

Steamin' Steve: I remember there being a train station in Gun.Smoke. Maybe you could play with this one a bit, like have your guy ride on horseback and shoot bandits in the carriages? Then Steve could throw TNT at you from the engine once you reach it, after he detaches the rest of the cars. Engine would be at the top of the screen but since there's multidirectional shooting, you could maybe add a phase where you circle around and behind the engine from left to right.

Neck Snapper Nick looks a bit difficult to pull off, at least in terms of mechanics. Will he lasso you? Maybe he could attempt to pull you next to him, then if he succeeds he hangs you and it's game over. You could make it so that he does slow bullet spreads, then forces you to weave between them as you avoid the lasso. When you do get caught, you could probably mash buttons to escape.

Bison Brothers could be a top-view version of that stampede sequence from Sunset Riders. Maybe there could be a mechanic where you could possibly cause a bison to whack one of the brothers for points and extra damage? Otherwise I was tempted to think they'd be pulling Psycho Crushers on you from both sides of the screen... :P

Stagecoach Sam: You could chase the stagecoach, but that would be phase one, probably an entire level trying to bring it down before the time limit or something. When you do, he hops off and faces you in a duel to the death. "RULES OF THE FRONTIER, JACK!" *inappropriate metalcore music starts playing*

Trigun is even set on planet gunsmoke, so I guess he's even a bigger fan than me. No, that's no possible actually.
Some stages will be played purely on horse back, the stagecoach one, for instance. Might do that with the train as well, getting the feel of a train robbery thing. :)

Thanks! Unfortunately I'm stuck in the new game. :?

See that boss? That's Coffin Carrier Cody, but what's he supposed to do? I've been thinking about this for 2 weeks and can't for the life of me give him a suitable weapon.
The coffins are kind of like the satellites in BP, the lids fall off to reveal bone-throwing canons. :D

But the boss himself isn't attacking. He's jumping though, because that's cool, but he has no attack.
I could stick a small gun in his hand but I want all the bosses to be more than that...or maybe I'm just asking too much?
Ideas on how to continue with this?

Maybe he could use a shovel to dig up the ground, each scoop spewing more bones towards the player?

Tiny dude carrying coffins? Give him a ridiculously big gun, or like Ebbo said a shovel. Maybe he digs up dead cowboys to help him? Goes with the coffin theme.

He should have a flask fire attack because all grave diggers in the old west were drunk.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

I think that attack is for Mad Marshall Marv, great! Had no idea regarding him either. Thanks! :)

Yes! A shovel and a flask is a great idea! A dig and a sip with a zippo! The dig fires bones and the sip bullets.
Super thanks!

I just got done burning midnight oil and a few whale fat candles on my own game, so now I have a bit of free time before the next big stretch...is it all right if I send a few preliminary sketches of these bosses via PM this week? I might throw in a few ideas for mechanics you could consider in there too.

Or he could throw some kind of resurrection balls into the ground that raises up skulls wearing stetson hats. The skulls would then spit fire balls aimed at the player. I guess I'm late to the party though.

Edit: Freakin' song had ads in it so I changed it to a ad-less one, but the ad is still there. YT, fix it!

He could do that too. I mean, a GS tribute only deserves the best. (which is why I should send this off to someone for polishing and redoing when I'm done with it...)

Just took the decision to scrap the levels themselves and just go for the boss fights. To really put my focused efforts where it should be, I mean.
Thoughts on that?

Do the boss fights and add the stages in later?

I'd give him a fast, aimed throwing knife, briefly telegraphed with slightly erratic targeting to reward quick reaction+dissuade panic dodging. Think Pig Joe's terrifying mouth blasts in Gun.Smoke. Sometimes it's the simple things that make the biggest impression. ;3 Ornate knives scream vintage horror, too! Although maybe that's all the Argento and Phantasm talking, haha.

A singular, vicious targeted strike might be a nice complement to his flashier attacks too.

I'm in Denver, CO.! How cool is that!? Need to get to the Buffalo Bill museum.
@BPZ: Yeah, will most likely do some stages when I'm done with the bosses. Depends on the number of bosses that gets impl.
@BIL: I do need someone with knives. But not that guy. I think. He's fully armed now. With zombies and stuff. :-)

So, no progress in quite a while now for the Gun.Smoke tribute...and it makes me feel bad.
Which made want to list, in chronological order, what I've done (that I've actually finished and released to the public) for the past 12 years...
So I guess this post is just for me to have as a historical paper. Sorry about that...
