That's one awesome bargain bin there in Youngstown, Ohio.
Here, let me explain what I meant, Special World.
I don't think this will be a popular release.
So I sarcastically made the comment about the bargain bin, insinuating that the game will be cheaper in a few months.
Better?
I got it. It made me laugh.
So did all the Yagawa universal rank business, ha ha. Imagine that, real gamers suiciding in an attempt to diminish Yagawa's out of control libido and restore balance to the gaming universe.

Oh! Good thing you explained!
In seriousness though, I'm glad to get something outside of the norm from Cave. I love 'em to death, but I have 8 games here and I'd like a little something different. Rank kicks ass as long as you can play in such a way that it doesn't destroy you every time, which seems to be the case with MMP. Of course, I'll end up jacking up rank as high as I can as soon as I figure out how, but whatever. The games look fun as shit, and I'm sure to enjoy them more than DFK.
Woah, you did an about turn there. I remember when you couldn't stand MMP and sold it quick time.
Like I said, love hate.
I did acquire another board, but gave it to a friend who regretted selling his.
It's not my favorite game by any means, but its WAY more fun than DFK 1.5.
I'm glad I got rid of my DFK kit, I never got into it.
I like MMP, but I tire of it after a few days.
Don't think I'll own another one... Or maybe wait till all the collectors fear the port and sell their boards off, which is inevitable, thus dropping the price to normal levels.

Maximum rank level is currently unknown - more players will have to suicide to reduce rank.
That's actually a really interesting idea. Could be a novel use of the internet for shmups besides online leaderboards. I suppose you should be praying Yagawa never thinks of such a thing.
UNIVERSAL RANK
That is the worst idea I have ever heard - you better believe he's implementing it right now in his next game.
I was going to post some stupid score chaining joke because ohohohoho shmups, eh? EH? What about them shmups? Have you heard the one about the shmup? And what's with shmups and score chaining?
Rank kicks arse. So true. Good on you Yagawa...in his [perhaps] miserable old age....he's harnessed the ESSENCE of the shooter, hence even people who don't like his games; still play them, buy and discuss them...ha ha.
When did shmups become more about scoring? I don't gamble, I don't think I've ever thrown away more than $2 like that...doesn't interest me....isn't it a similar addiction to numbers/score/bullion/collecting/gambling; that creates a love affair with playing this way? For a similar way that people play Pinball. I thought these games were primarily shmups...?
I mean, if I had a screen full of flak, intense and pleasurable ...and it all turned into $$$/gold/emerald/keas....I'd feel a little ripped-off. Or at least confused, wondering where all my bullets went. What did I do wrong? Why did they all leave me? I might be traumatized.
What made games like DOJ so striking...was the intensity of the action [and rank was a huge reason for the playability of Raiden 2/DX, by the way, lest we forget.] Such a simple little game otherwise, imagine if it was as soft and flabby as Gradius V powered up, where you slaughter everything before it even has a chance to appear]. Speaking of GV, even on the hardest settings, with a potential bullet-hell...powered up that way; very little can even get a shot in...I only die; when I stuff up royally, play worse than usual, or my attention just drifts off [hard not too, knowing it'd be a far more interesting game if I just died, and got reincarnated...].
People talk of R-Type 3 being the best in the franchise...maybe it was [played with the original Force]; but at least 1 of the others was far too powerfull, and without rank...made the game too easy/unbalanced [providing you'd memorized the sillly bits you needed too]. I remember tapping shoot once...a pair of auto homing lasers would clear the screen, wait a couple of seconds...tap shoot....[yawn]. One gets confused, and goes into the ground...but the one left was sufficient to kill everything anyway. What was that? Am I Missing CORONATION ST...??
There are plenty of easier shooters, to practice on. Partly what killed them off in the '90's...was the amount of flabby titles released in the waning, which could never satisfy the existing fans....waiting years for the next Thunderforce/Twin Cobra/Flying Shark/Raiden/R-Type/Gradius...and even UN Squadron [forgiving enough, I reckon [maybe not the SNES version]....but it's sequel was even more so.]
It's only twitch gameplay mixed with danmaku, that worries me. One or the other. I love both, but do prefer the latter. Together...and it has to be a well-balanced game indeed; not to be a bit TOO much, requiring cybernetic piloting abilitys. But even then...RANK kicks Chuck [Norris]. And anything that kicks his sorry ass, has to be a good thing.

Corrected that for ya bud.
The arrange modes do look pretty good actually, I'm sure they'll take the edge off somewhat.
Where are people ordering their PS/MMP from? I've opted for the limited edition from AmiAmi. I used them for DDP:DFK:BL - can anyone recommend a cheaper retailer to the UK?

How much was UK postage from AmiAmi? Did you get hit for import tax?
I normally buy from Play Asia, but the LE seems pricey. Maybe high postage and import tax from AmiAmi may even things out.

Shipping was £5.85 - and no tax
Play-Asia does seem too pricey for the LE I agree.
So we're less than a week away from release, and still no images have surfaced of what the LE will look like? I hope it's not the exact same art as the regular release (see: fugly).

I remember reading somewhere that both editions will have the same cover art, but I can't recall where.
