I actually tried maniac mode last night, and was surprised that it wasn't really any more difficult than original. The fast moving bullets in original are just about as nasty the huge bullet spreads of maniac.

I absolutely LOVE futari, but haven't played the first mushihimesama.
How does this one compare to futari?

You'll most likely enjoy it, but not as much as Futari. At least that was the case for me, and I'd played the original Mushi way before its sequel.

Hey you Mushimesama adepts! I've posted an RQ in the Strategy section about this but who amongst you has the hang of this counter banking thang and what button config do you use to achieve it?
It's very pretty and lots of fun and Original mode is so simplistic in its mechanic but what about Maniac/Ultra? Someone suggested not even bothering to counter bank cos it's so irritating and just play for survival but that seems like a cop out.
It seems that this is so much less popular than Futari because what makes Mushihimesama so frustrating (and in contrast to Futari) is that there's no onscreen analogue display to show you what's going on with the mechanics- all you get is strings of rapidly changing numbers so it's hard to tell if you've counterbanked successfuly and hard to learn when's the best time to do so. There's no gauges to max out or gem colour changes to achieve just numbers numbers numbers making Mushihimesama a lot less compelling than most recent CAVE titles.
But it just looks so good though...

I don't know man, the scoring in Mushi with all the autofire rates and shit just seems so cryptic and hard to get. I know I'll have fun trying to clear Original, but Maniac and Ultra will probably not get much play.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but if memory serves these are the basics: for starters, notice that in addition to the "main counter" that gets higher as you chain enemies, smaller "mini-counters" will also appear for your lasers as you keep them trained onto targets. When fighting certain enemies (mostly midbosses IIRC), once you build up the mini-counters a ways, let off the fire button for a moment so that the chain is temporarily broken and the numbers start to decrease, then quickly press the button again. If you time it right, the values of each of the "mini-counters" will be added to the "main" counter, giving an instant boost to the multiplier - keep doing this repeatedly (tap, let go, tap, let go, etc.) and you can bring it up considerably. Autofire hacks can handle the timing for you, making the process much easier, and were included as optional button configs on the PS2 port (and apparently will be on the 360 as well).

Something like that, anyway...again, feel free to correct me if I screwed up.

Thanks, that's useful cos it suggests that I can just break shot altogether to counter bank rather than having to switch to the rapid auto shot and back again- simply tapping on/off will be a lot more natural- though of course then the parent counter will fall too so it may not optimise score like switching shots would. Guess I'll have to suck it and see :D
Still like to hear from someone who's successfully working the counter bank mechanic though- Icarus describes it thoroughly in the ST but no one else seems to comprehend it fully and my RQ about it is as empty as my facebook page lol

Cave's Twitter hinted at a Western GoD release a while ago, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I still think Ketsui is enough reason to own one. However, if you're cool with the M.A.M.E. version, then there isn't a whole lot left on it.

Trailer is pretty much what I had expected. Surprised that they didn't actually show any Matsuri 1.5 footage though.

I'm hoping Asada implements a "quick restart" option, something both Asada and M2 have neglected to add in their Cave ports. Speaking of M2, this is clearly not their work, wonder what they're up to.

can someone please explain what exactly we are buying? I own futari 1.5 region free but I'm thinking of going J just for ketsui and this new mushihimesama HD. I just want to know if its the original mushihimesama but with fixed score button spamming. that video says 1.5 but what is it exactly? I never played mushihimesama so I'm not sure if thats what I see in the video.

It's Mushihimesama (the original game) plus Mushihimesama 1.5 (which is a reworked version) along with the usual arrange modes and whatever else they stick on the disc.

Mushihimesama 1.5 is only being supplied as a DLC code for all first print runs of either the regular or limited edition.

I wish I could do that. Have the Game, just not the JP PS2. Fortunately won't be a problem in a few weeks. :)

Super excited.

Did anyone have their pre-order cancelled by play-asia? They didn't tell me why... happened to me a few weeks ago and I've been lazy about reordering it from somewhere else, but I assume its too late to get the preorder Matsuri DLC now. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh

Did they send you an email or did you just notice it? I haven't heard anything about mine, but that makes me a little nervous.

They sent me an email. No explanation was given and there wasn't a clear way to respond, and I was lazy about following up independently. I'm guessing they somehow overestimated their stock for preorders and "sold out" beforehand or something.
