The song that plays while Trials Evolution is loading is incredibly annoying.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Miracle Whip. It's non-dairy and disgusting. My town is gay for it. They even use the hallowed term "mayonnaise" with it interchangeably. Miracle Whip is the worst thing that's happened to America since Hitler or Sarah Palin, or something.

Hitler happened to Europe, not America.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Hitler never even set foot in America, and thus never "happened to it". I suppose he indirectly affected it in the general news people received of his actions, but his destructive influence was a million times greater in Europe where he actually lived. The point being that Hilter is hardly "the worst thing to happen to America".
I got the point of what you were saying but Hitler wasn't a good choice at least in that aspect. I'm just surprised neither of you understood my point. I think maybe my wording was just poor. I also kinda feel like if somebody else had said that you would've understood because, you know, it wasn't me who said it... I suppose this post will probably be equally as stupid to most of you but some of your responses are just as pathetic.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Actually the Satori is sort of right, I can see why he said that.
Saying Hitler was the worst thing to happen to America doesn't really make sense. The US wanted into that war, so they vaporised the Japanese, whipped up a bullshit story and dived into the money machine. The country didn't suffer rape, genocide and overthrow of government - you just provided forces to aid the allied war effort and help destroy the Nazis (with the largest achievement score going to Mother Russia.)
Actually, the Americans benefited so greatly from WWII you ended up owning most of the world in debt with the option to move in militarily. In those terms Hitler was one of the best things to happen to America. And IBM.

FWIW, Mayonnaise is traditionally non-dairy. Just egg yolks, oil, and lemon juice. Miracle whip is still shit though, no question about that.

Thanks for the refresher on basic world history that everyone knows by, like, age 8. But whereas Germany unilaterally declared war on the US, and around 300,000 Americans (might be wrong in the figure, surprisingly hard to find datum) in the Atlantic theater didn't live to see the macroeconomic benefits of WWII, I think I was justified in the subject and wording of my (admittedly not very funny) one liner crafted to bring home how much I hate Miracle Whip.Skykid wrote:Actually the Satori is sort of right, I can see why he said that.

Are Americans actually educated on the US's veiled economic machinations and excuses to join wars by 8 years old though?

They're educated that wartime production was what really ended the Great Depression, and further that the US emerged as a newly christened superpower. About the intricacies of prewar US-Japanese relations, and that Pearl Harbor wasn't quite so black-and-white, no not so much.Skykid wrote:Are Americans actually educated on the US's veiled economic machinations and excuses to join wars by 8 years old though?
And you're failing to distinguish popular opinion and whatever FDR & friends were up to. At the outset of WWII, the popular opinion was very non-interventionist and strongly anti-Semitic, it took Pearl Harbor to get folks on board. (Not so much 8-year-old education, for obvious reasons, but basic middle/high school learning.)

This is what's generally taught in US public schools, but at age 8? I don't think many would touch World War II until high school.Moniker wrote:They're educated that wartime production was what really ended the Great Depression, and further that the US emerged as a newly christened superpower. I'm not sure about current schools, but I was taught about Lenin and Stalin in elementary school. I was definitely older than 8, though.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I find it pretty amazingly hard to believe any US school would avoid WWII until high school. And if by some miracle (whip) it was skipped at an extremely shitty school (many of which do exist in the US), parents would inform. And, at least in my age group, most every American family had a member who at least participated in the war. By 5th grade (generally, age 10), we were discussing Vietnam, the prospect of the EU, and the history of the IRA. Pretty sure we discussed at minimum the basics of the Great Depression and WWII prior to that. Note that I was in a Catholic school, rather than public.Mortificator wrote:This is what's generally taught in US public schools, but at age 8? This is all pretty immaterial. We're moronically debating the minutia of my obviously correct off-the-cuff comments. The important thing is that what LS wrote, and what was quasi-defended by SK, was pretty stupid. Had I written that Hitler's impact was worse on America than, say, Jews or Poland, I'd expect a righteous backlash. But that's not what I wrote. This is all freaking idiotic.
All to say that Miracle Whip sucks.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
You can see what the most common US grade school history and social studies texts are here, then check out the books and find out what they cover and what they don't. 5th grade textbooks like Reflections don't say anything about World War II. American Journey, which is part of the group that "aims for the eighth grade-level even though they are widely adopted and used in high school classrooms," reaches the war on page 718 and goes into such detail as...
It's completely normal you wouldn't know the curriculum of a different education system than you experienced. What's weird, though, is that you're so certain this thing you've never experienced could not be different than how it is in your imagination. Many Americans put their lives on fast forward. Men and women often decided to beat the clock with instant matrimony. Couples who had postponed marriage because of the depression could afford to marry as the economy picked up. War intensified casual romances and heightened the appeal of marriage as an anchor in troubled times. Altogether, the war years brought 1.2 million "extra" marriages, compared to the rate for the period 1920-1939.

I understand that the only reason you brought it up was to say "miracle whip sucks". Saying that again proves nothing and is completely beside the point.Moniker wrote:All to say that Miracle Whip sucks.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I know it's a double post, but it's good to get away from the whole Hitler discussion. (it's a fact that if a discussion goes on long enough Hitler will be brought up)
So CoderGames was banned. That's not what bugs me. Apart from what was obvious about him, what REALLY bugs me, was that in my last post in his topic I genuinely tried to be nice to him and he BLEW ME OFF! I guess this goes to show that some people are just too far gone. (he also kept saying "y'all" which was sorta annoying)

More sad than annoying, but Kota Ibushi being taken out of the G-1 Climax due to injury sucks big time. Why'd you have to go and give him brain damage, Kushida?

Sore neck. Slept on it funny or something. I have about 3" range of motion either way right now.

wow that Hitler discussion
Anyway, guy from Mexico I know on RetroRealities says he lost $5K of games (whole Sega CD / Genesis collection) from people throwing stuff away O_O
I suggested he try to track down the dump it got sent to, but he says it happened 3 weeks ago and there apparently isn't a regular trash service contract, so he's not sure who took it.
$5K lost all at once makes any little problems I've had with buying low quality stuff...well, it sure puts things in perspective.

People who need to open the door to the fridge/cooler in a market while deciding which drink they get...
...for minutes on end, unable to decide, while all the cold air escapes on a hot summer day.
I guess this goes for all people who have no concept or common sense when it comes to energy preservation.

I had a nightmare once that all my gaming stuff got put outside next to the curb on garbage day (.gif).
If this ever happens IRL they will need buckets upon buckets of lysol to wash the blood into the gutters, my own included if the fuzz have the sense to arrive packing heat. The neighbours will go to their graves haunted, having told their children's children of the day they witnessed the real nerd rage (・`W´・) (some will say the real nerd love)

There was an Indian couple at the local Aldi trying to make up their mind which flavor ice cream to buy while holding open the freezer door.

Big annoyance of the week = screaming children in public places and goddamn parents who allow them to persist
