Wasn't it said that cave are porting the game to pc? If so I wonder if they'd port mushi over futari because they didn't work on the futari 360 port themselves.

It's obviously going to be Dangun Feveron.

dodonpachi is just "kill or hit another enemy before this bar runs out" and almost no one here does that shit either
Yeah because chaining is horrible.

Except YGW medal chaining. That's actually fun.
Yes, Medal chaining is fun as hell, so is the chaining in Dangun Feveron (for me anyways).

I hope its not Futari. I get that the whole weeaboos would like it thing but I think they have a better chance selling a DDP game just for the whole "spaceships and explosions" would appeal to more people. At least more than a bug riding underage princess shooting dinosaurs.

There are way more Touhou players than 'regular' shmuppers. And Touhou is all about underage girls and bullets = Mushi series (switch bugs and dinosaurs with youkai stuff)

Hey, but then you have SDOJ with the whole power fantasy of the pilot and his meido robo-sexy doll and the operator serenading you from the distance. Just check SDOJ's website! I could see that working as well. And isn't SDOJ the arcade swan song of CAVE? Did anything else come out after that? (For arcades I mean.)

BUT...

Like it has been stated many many times before, Mushi Futari had that infamous video made and it became a representation of the bullet hell genre.

But SDOJ is hardly n00b-friendly. Plus it's kind of ugly with it's 2-color scheme, and there are glimpses of breasts (metallic or not: will scare-away 2hu fans).

Doesn't it have a mode that is super easy? Also do we really care about converting apparent freaks of nature away from 2hu? It doesn't really matter what the first game is so long as it isn't pink sweets. The uncontrollable rank would stink the place up.

Based on what we know so far I think Mushi 1 is more likely than Futari, since Blackbird said to Softdrink that it's one of his favorites, and I think Softdrink's more a fan of Mushi 1 than Futari. Also porting Mushi 1 leaves Futari as a very logical next step, should it do well.

I think the theme has a better chance of appealing to potential buyers than the "spaceships and explosions" aesthetic of Dodonpachi and the like, because while spaceships or fighter jets might look cooler to a broader audience, most of that "audience" isn't even going to notice this release. The audience that actually plays shmups on PC, but isn't already a CAVE fan who would buy the game no matter what they choose to release, is largely already used to "weird Japanese things" and that might even be a plus to them over something more "generic." Chances are they've played Touhou and want to see if CAVE really is harder. Maybe they've also played stuff like the Gundemonium games or QP Shooting - Dangerous!. If they're turned off by a princess shooting dinosaurs while riding a bug it's a wonder they play PC shmups at all. I mean, there is CC:WI, the Alltynex trilogy, Revolver360, etc., but to the untrained eye that doesn't know the pedigree behind the name Dodonpachi would just look like CC:WI minus most of the stars.

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

We try to keep prices reasonable. The prices have been creeping up, but for good reason - working with larger, better known companies like Qute and CAVE, who have higher marketing expectations, requires a greater investment for us than our earlier shmups have, so we have to price accordingly.

It'd be cool if you allowed pre-orders. Failing that, at least please post the price somewhere on the storefront. Knowing the price beforehand makes it easier to budget for the game.

Pre-order for a digital release? Seriously?

Do we care about touhou fans? Do we care about people who don't play for score? Do we care about people who don't 1CC? Do we care about people who only play the game once before shelving it? Do we care about mainstream gamers?

No, apparently we should only care about the elite few who are already playing "legitimate" shooting games. This line of reasoning is why STG players (and STGs as a genre of games) are few and far between.

Considering the state of the shmups 'industry' I'd say we care more about sales now.

We should prepare a prize for the first one that gets that first Steam release to show on a mainstream TV channel news/show, by whatever means, even for 2 seconds.

They should release the Pink Sweets Arrange then, thats also awesome and not as horribly punishing.

Yeah but with an arcade mode like that, I really don't think it's a good one to start with.

True enough. Considering the price of the PS/MMP bundle an eventual release would be nice though.

Would love to get a well-done Muchi Pork and Pink pack. Pink Sweets Arrange definitely owns, one of Cave's best revisions for sure.

Did all the 360 ports that were originally low res on CV-1000 have an original low-res option? We definitely need that.

Yeah they stopped the low-res graphics options for most of their ports after Galuda II (pretty sure MMP/PS was the only release after it to still have low-res graphics, but they also didn't have any HD option anyway).

Well now they have an easy way to make the Steam ports better than the 360s - include the original graphics.

Didn't SDOJ and Akai Katana also cut the arcade mode graphics as well?

Speaking of marketing, do you have any streamers in mind who could promo this game on Twitch? (Alongside the excellent DegiGames, of course!)

I am convinced it would be good to have someone from the FGC start introducing the genre. Shmups are a natural complement to fighting games, and I'm surprised this isn't better understood. The intensity of shmups is similar to FGs and most FGCers have a stick too, which makes them natural consumers. The same is not true of say, FPS or MOBAs.

My personal vote would be for Juicebox, as he's a skilled gamer but can also break things down on an intellectual level.

Oh and Pew Die Pie of course, coz he fucking runs YouTube

It was already discussed in an old topic: he would give visibility to the genre, but his lack of knowledge and the "too casual to care" approach are not the best way to introduce the players and warming up to it.

I'd choose slowbeef; total biscuit and some other expert youtubers.

Akai Katana contains a mode with the arcade graphics.
