Coming up in Loop 12:

Code: Select all

Lord Hypnos - Verminest - 2 - 8400
Lord Hypnos - Judgement Silversword - 2 - 2,466,770
Lord Hypnos - Mystic Square - 4 - Reimu - 13,871,290
Lord Hypnos - Thunder Force IV - 1 - 9080
Lord Hypnos - Hellsinker Trial - Minogame - 1 - ?
2+2+4+1+1=10
Am I ready for it...?

Still have no fucking clue how to hellsinker. not even remotely. Also wish I could remove lag in Mystic Square, b/c it's pretty bad on my machine. I'm saying I made it to "stage 2" in JSS, because I made it to the second judge, but did not defeat him. Also basing stage in Verminest on bosses.

Ah. Damn. Completely forgot my rolls, so that's a DNF for me. :/

Oh well, bring on Loop 12:

Code: Select all

GRADIUS II: GOFER NO YABOU
THUNDER DRAGON 2
RADIANT SILVERGUN
RAIDEN DX
MAHOU KEIBITAI GUN HOHKI
Hm. Not really sure how to approach RSG. Never played TD2 or MKGH, either. But hey, at least I got Gradius II and Raiden DX. :B

RESULTS:

Heavy Viper - GRADIUS II: GOFER NO YABOU (SAT) - Type-1 - St. 3 - 105,500
(ouch...)

Heavy Viper - THUNDER DRAGON 2 (MAME) - P1 Side - St. 3 - 754,030
("Whoa! Groovy, man~!")

Heavy Viper - RADIANT SILVERGUN - St. 3 (???) - 256,730
(This is, uh...hm.)

Heavy Viper - RAIDEN DX (MAME) - St. 3 - 317,790
(still reeling from this and R2 being emulated finally ;_;)

Heavy Viper - MAHOU KEIBITAI GUN HOHKI - St. 2 - 138,400
(I tell a lie - I have played this! Not enough, though...)

TOTAL: 14,000,000

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with Silvergun, and I couldn't find any posts from people who had rolled it in the thread, so I counted each boss defeated (I downed two) as a stage marker. If this doesn't look cool to someone who knows the game better, let me know.

Should also note I picked Charlie mission in Raiden DX, since it looked the most like a "full course."

Not sure if I'm going to remember to do these this week or if I'm just going to bash my head against Battle Garegga, but rolling anyway:

Code: Select all

REVOLVER360 RE:ACTOR
Touhou 12.8: Great Fairy Wars
Mahou Daisakusen
Rayforce
Donpachi
I added REVOLVER360 RE:ACTOR to my list after getting it in that bundle a while back, but have yet to actually play it. I wonder how it'll go...

Shepardus - RayForce - 3 - 743400
Shepardus - Mahou Daisakusen - Miyamoto - 2 - 136010
Shepardus - DonPachi (Japan) - Type B - 4 - 3382490
Shepardus - REVOLVER360 RE:ACTOR - 1 - 450580905
Shepardus - Touhou 12.8: Great Fairy Wars - Route A1 Normal - 3 (Boss) - 11080750

Total: 13 (3 + 2 + 4 + 1 + 3)

ALLTYNEX Second - Easy - 2 - 2088xxx (about what I expected)
Ikaruga - Normal - Ikaruga - 2 - 523960 (also about what I expected)
Blue Wish Resurrection - Heaven - Peace - 4 Boss - 1275xxxx (what ....)
Dodonpachi Saidaioujou - X360 (1.5) - A-S - 1 - 196000000 (I can't even reliably no-miss the first stage :()
eXceed 3rd -Jade Penetrate- Black Package - Easy - ALL (5) - 6734010 (no-miss, but scoring was still meh)

Not a bad draw, I guess, even if I haven't seen past stage 2 on three of these. -.-

Final score: 19

What I got for the Loop 12:

S_Fang - Explosive Breaker - Jean - Area 5 - 349410 5 Weird and cool game.

S_Fang - Gigandes - Stage 2 - 70500 2 Weird game but I like the ship's design: a cute ball. I have to know how you can decide where to mount the cannons.

S_Fang - Black Heart - Stage 2 - 98000 2 Interesting game, nothing to add other than learning to manouver the dragon.

S_Fang - Dangerous Seed - Stage 5 - 971850 5 I wonder how you fuse the three ships: something about going through the game without dying or something? Also, is funny how this games and other japanese shmups with health bars are untouched by the euroshmup's ostracization.

S_Fang - Vasara - Yukimura Sanada -Stage 3 - 338720 3 Awersome game, especially the sword's mechanic: wonder how you release those blood papers.

Just ram into the power-up with the side of the ship you want it on. The game is a bit finicky about it, though, so it'll probably take some practice.

Loop 13 rolls:

system11 - Strikers 1945 plus - 2 - 148300
system11 - Double Ring (W-Ring: The Double Rings) - 5 - 906870
system11 - Night Raid - 3 - xxxxxx (ragequit from mame)
system11 - Mushihimesama Futari Black Label - 3 - xxxxxxx (ragequit power button)
system11 - Air Buster - 3 - 230860

Score: 16

Side notes: Air Buster arcade much harder than Megadrive, I'd normally expect to cruise to stage 4/5. W-Ring run ended badly when I forgot to change speed in stage 5 and dumped my remaining lives hitting a wall before a mid boss and thus having no weapons. Night Raid - what the hell? I bombed the bosses and pressed B a lot, with no clue as to where I was on the screen most of the time, worst visibility ever. Really angry about the Futari result, used many bad words - that's the one game in the list I've 1CC'd before and I fucked it up having not played for 2 years.

Loop 13:

Code: Select all

The Guardian Legend
Choujikuu Yousai Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie
Area 88
Touhou Koumakyou ~ The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Sonic Sisters
I'm okay with this list except for The Guardian Legend. Is there a particular way I should be playing it? Because as I recall, it's one-third shmup and two-thirds overworld map exploration. (Answer: Use password "TGL")

RESULTS:

Heavy Viper - The Guardian Legend (NES) - St. 4 - unknown score

Heavy Viper - Choujikuu Yousai Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie (SNES) - St. 1 - unknown score
(*gurgle*)

Heavy Viper - Area 88 (MAME) - F-14D Tomcat - St. 3 - 90,130

Heavy Viper - Touhou Koumakyou ~ The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil - ReimuA - St. 5 - 53,790,020

Heavy Viper - Sonic Sisters - Yayoi - Area 2-02 (St. 5???) - 2,061,129

TOTAL: 18,000,000

Well, sort of made up for that Macross result with the last two games. I've never played Sonic Sisters before! Cute and simple game, I like it. :B

As for the Sonic Sisters score, I just counted the number of bosses I defeated - one each in Areas 1-03, 1-06 and 1-09, and the one after the boss rush in Area 1-10. That makes Area 2-01 "Stage 5," if that makes sense. If there's a better way, I'll be happy to recalculate!

Using "TGL" as the password lets you play only the shmup stages.

Hopefully I'll do a little better than I have been this time

Code: Select all

LordHypnos - Xexex - 1 - ?
LordHypnos - Recca - 2 - 738,132
LordHypnos - Task Force Harrier - 1 - 66,600
LordHypnos - Cotton - 1 - 17,800
LordHypnos - Dokingan - 4? - 27,000,000ish
eh... total=9
Wow, didn't realize a lot of that stuff in xexex could kill me... probably should have known better. took me two tries to figure out that the icicles were deadly.

Randomizer sure does like giving me Dokingan...
on that note, Dokingan seems like it would be really freakin hard if you didn't get bomb extends constantly (where do they even come from?) and autobomb. I feel like large chunks of the game are just autobomb after autobomb with bomb extends coming at regular intervals... otherwise the bullets would be way too fast and dense

  • Omega Fighter - 2 - 382570
  • Dodonpachi - C-S - 2 - 1698030
  • Dodonpachi Daioujou Black Label - A-Exy - 3 - 11631150
  • Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label - C-S - 1 - ? (wasn't paying attention and died twice before the midboss, orz)

Definitely could have done better on Eden's edge if I'd taken the time to set up stick controls and not play with my laptop keyboard. Pulstar seems rad, need to play that again. Coryoon is odd but lovely, SDOJ is still dildos, Super Swiv is not my cup of tea at all.

The games in this loop:

S_Fang - Battle Garegga - G-913 Wild Snail(A+B+C) - Stage 4 - 1193700 4 Sure is hard to keep an eye on those pesky bullets, but it was manageable with the ABC version of the ship (so hard to pull off, though).

S_Fang - Detana!! Twin Bee - Stage 2 - 177850 2 Cute game, but it has the punishing crap of make the game difficult if you lose power ups. Also, that stupid ship of Stage 2, how much you need to go through in order to sink it?

S_Fang - Espgaluda II - Ageha - Stage 3 - 6403513 3 I've kept an eye on this game for a long time, but is hard to increase the Kakusei's level without getting mauled by those fast bullets. Also, the dropped gems are too much little for keep the Kakusei active for long enough.

S_Fang - R-Type Leo - Area 3 - 243200 3 Nice game, as well the green laser: is so handy to deal with those obnoxious terrain enemies.

S_Fang - Air Gallet - Stage 2 - 433200 2 A smaller hitbox would be soooo useful in this game, as well a damn timer for pickups because is so annoying changing weapons.

Man I've been in one helluva shmup slump lately. Haven't played a single thing in weeks. Well time to end that shit, I'm rolling right now; time to get hype 8)

Loop 14 Rolls:

ACSeraph - Deathsmiles II Arcade Mode (360) - Casper - Stage 2 Boss - 2 Points

ACSeraph - Shikigami no Shiro III Dramatic Change Mode (Wii) - Reika and Nagino - Stage 3 - 3 Points

ACSeraph - Triggerheart Exelica (360) - Exelica - ALL (True End) - 10 Points
TLB Clear! - 5 Points

ACSeraph - Dodonpachi Daioujou X Mode (360) - Piper - 4 - 4 Points

ACSeraph - Parodius Da! (SFC) - Octopus - 3 - 3 Points

Weekly Bonus Get! - 5 Points

Final Score - 32

Welp, can't complain about quality, time to go jump in :D

---

Fuck DSII AC Mode is so much harder than X. The mechanics seem different too, despite having beaten X on Level 3 I didn't even make it to stage 3 here, though I probably should have, just never used my bombs :\

I've never really played Shiki III much because I hate the US vocal work, seems like a decent game though. Stage 3 got rough fast.

Apparently I have not forgotten how to Exelica:

Image

True End 8)

Parodius went incredibly badly, I actually died just a few seconds after starting because I wasn't paying attention, and then that stupid fucking dancing girl in stage 2 killed me twice (which rarely happens). I hate that part of the game, takes way too damn long. Also really dislike the free scrolling stages in Gradius in general.

Alright, gonna switch to only games that I own (though including freeware stuffs). Mostly just because I'm sick of rolling games that I've only played like once or no times (Also, 47 games seems like enough for Death Roulette). We'll see how this goes...

Code: Select all

LordHypnos - Mars Matrix - Mosquito 2 - Stage 5 - 500,000,000,000,000ish
LordHypnos - XOP Black Ultra - Medium speed - 3 - 15,486,732
LordHypnos - Eden's Aegis - Nanathy - Stage 3 - 6,621,850
LordHypnos - Mountain of Faith - Marisa A - Stage 3 - 35,838,040
LordHypnos - Fast Striker 1.5 - Stage 6 - 3,000,000,000,000ish

So far: 5+6+3+3+3=20+5(bonus)= Total: 25!
Mars Matrix - fate was sealed by a couple serious fuck ups in stage 4 (also getting greedy in stage 3, but 1 death before stage 4 is very recoverable). Not sure my exact score because I didn't place on the high score board. I think it was probably in the 530s...
Fast Striker - Well, intentionally passed on scoring, so naturally I didn't place, again, but stage 6 is decent. I've made it further into the final boss before, but otherwise, I got as far as ever.
XOP - wow, I was doing really well until the 3rd stage, then I just didn't bomb. over and over. *facepalm*
Eden's Aegis - I'm gonna blame lag for this. Yes I know it's a poor excuse, but I don't need any help sucking at shmups, thank you very much. I wonder if you can turn vsync off somehow?
Mountain of Faith - I really should have done better than this :( I can't even blame lag this time, because vpatch does a pretty good job of alleviating that. On the other hand ¡¡BONUS GET!! +5,000,000!

Wow, actually doing well at the games you're playing in Death Roulette makes it take forever.

Code: Select all

Alltynex Second
Image Fight
Deathsmiles Mega Black Label
ESP Ra.De.
Touhou 2: Story of Eastern Wonderland
I guess now's as good a time as any to actually give Alltynex Second a try. Kamui's still the only one in the series I've played despite owning all three.

I've cleared Story of Eastern Wonderland on Normal before, but even so I'm not looking forward to it because that game's stages make even other Touhou games' stages seem exciting... Also rapid-tapping the fire button makes you fire faster than the default autofire, which is tiresome and annoying.

Shepardus - Alltynex Second - 2 - 1891600
Shepardus - Image Fight - 1 - 17200
Shepardus - Deathsmiles Mega Black Label - Rosa - 2 Boss - 18118949
Shepardus - ESP Ra.De. - Irori - 2 Boss - 1399250
Shepardus - Touhou 2: Story of Eastern Wonderland - Normal - 5 Boss - 11352080

Total score: 12 (2 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 5)

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.
