Just a few more days now. The colonel is looking forward to seeing everyone's final results.

Remember to do your final submissions prior to 12pm on Sunday Japan time (meaning around 10pm Saturday night in the US) Late submissions will not be accepted.

Thought I'd make a new post for my final submission.

Code: Select all

Heavy Viper - USAAF Mustang - St. 8 - 1,033,800
Heavy Viper - Soukyugurentai - St. 4 - Type-B - 3,273,800
Heavy Viper - TwinBee Yahho! - St. 4 - Punch Twinbee - 1,273,540
Heavy Viper - Kuhga - Operation Code Vapor Trail - St. 5 - Valkyrie - 757,000
Heavy Viper - Gigandes - St. 8 - 866,900

TOTAL = *29*
SCREENSHOTS:

US AAF Mustang / 1 / 2
Soukyugurentai / 1
TwinBee Yahoo! / 1 / 2
Kuhga - Operation Vapor Trail / 1
Gigandes / 1 / 2

I may give some of the games another try, but overall I'd say that's all I've got. I found Mustang was a real pleasure after getting a feel for it, nice and simple. Gigandes was one I'd never heard of, but I think it's become one of my favourites! Soukyugurentai was the one I had the most trouble with - I'm pretty sure I still don't have a solid enough grasp of the mechanics. I definitely feel I could get a bit further in Vapor Trail if I clean up my act. Twinbee is a bit awkward, but adorable. :3

EDIT: - Updated Vapor Trail from St.4 to St.5!

Formation Armed F - Stage 3 - 239200 3 Fuck this game and its stupid power up system, bombs and difficulty spike, this bastard manage to ruin my mood this morning.
For the record, if someone ask me to play this game, may be the colonel or some wretched jokester, expect a pair huge middle finger stabbing your eyes because I'm done as well the ROM. Not worthy to pull a 1CC.

Vimana - Area 4 - 402960 4 Other than no sound, this was a mediocre STG with a crappy main weapon (V is cool looking, but not strong) and bomb (not really useful when surrounded). Forgot to mention about how autofire is overpowered in these old games, like if the developers didn't thought about it or it wasn't possible to program in the cabinet.

Fire Barrel - Stage 5 - 609000 5 Nice game, despite the crappy power down thing upon death (it require a lot of picks in order to really damage big enemies).

P-47 Aces - Spitfire - Stage 4 - 593660 4 Dodging bullets in this game is tricky, somewhat like Progear in term of subjective difficulty. With Spitfire is even worse to dodge things, except when it requires macro-dodging.

Cotton 2 - Cotton - Stage 7 - 3888100 7 I don't get the whole grabbing gimmick, as well the power up system. :?
Edit: I manage to learn a thing or two about the mechanics and they are fun. Much less recovering energy by juggling a trapped enemy and the beat'em up-like prompt to use special attacks (on a keyboard is even worse).

Total: !23!
As I written before, I did the game with just 1CC, totally legit, just like my wish to smash stuff out of aggravation.

So, time to start reporting to the Colonel. I've struggled these weeks. Only game that I've really played before is Sonic Wings 2. The others have been a pain  So far I'm looking at a total in the low tens *sighs*

Stompp - Sonic Wings 2 - FS-X - Stage 5 - 317,600
Oh, how I hate frying to Paris
Stage Score

Stompp - V-V - n/a - Stage 2 - 175060
Gawd..! I've been grinding V-V and I just can't get passed the second boss. Huge thanx to all the advice I got :) Will keep on trying this.
Start of stage 2 Score

Stompp - Wyvern Wings - ? - Stage 1-2 - 114300
Fun game. Decided to buy it for reals :D
Score

Stompp - Hacha Mecha Fighter - n/a - 2 - 87200
How great it is to be on the worst 10 player list
Stage 1 clear Score

Stompp - Soukyugurentai - the default ship - 2 - 741260
Man, this game was ugly!
Stage 1 clear Score

So yeah. Not much to be proud of here
Total !13! Woop woop!

I'm banning ACSeraph and his randomizer from all social functions I ever throw in retaliation for introducing me to Bakuretsu Breaker. Christ.

Dodonpachi - 2-2 (5 point bonus)
pic
Hotdog Storm - stage 4
pic
Dragon Breed - stage 2
pic
Bakuretsu Breaker - stage 4
pic
Espgaluda - ALL (5 point bonus)

So that's what, 31 points? Or something?

Debriefing time:
  • Sonic Wings - FSX - 4 Boss - 215000 - video (I didn't think screenshots would work well with the random stage order)
  • Rayforce - 2 - 421400 - screenshot
  • Raiden Fighters 2 - Raiden mkII - 1 (I'm calling each mission a stage) -1649940 - screenshot
  • Wyvern Wings - XY-01 - 3 - 256300 - screenshot
  • Omega Fighter - 3 - 441260 - video
Final score: 13

Overall, not too bad, I guess, considering I'm not all that great a shmupper to begin with. Sonic Wings I might actually keep pushing for a 1cc on, but recovery in the later stages seems pretty hard.

Well that's it for me, I didn't have much time to play past these 2 weeks (i'm busy developing my new shmup and putting up with education), but what I played, got me back in to shmups and am looking forward to do 1ccs in near future.

Here we go:
Sexy Parodius - Koitsu - 230,600 - Stage 3 (The Castlevania Stage)
Screen: https://www.dropbox.com/s/j6pwi6vtgljnc ... 8.png?dl=0

Sengoku Ace - Aine - 345,900 - 1-5
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ci35zxqspfobk ... 3.png?dl=0

Strikers 1945 II - Ki-87 Hayate - 818,900 - 1-7
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ykhpi9hzbt2je ... 5.png?dl=0

Strikers 1945 III - X-36 - 735,100 - 1-7
https://www.dropbox.com/s/r1uibu3whmzsk ... 4.png?dl=0

Bee Storm: Dodonpachi II - The Red Ship or whatever it's called - 138,242,800 - Stage 5
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dbht3e69fioqz ... 7.png?dl=0

Total points: 3+5+7+7+5 = 14+13 = 27

I don't regret playing in this roulette it got me back into shmups proper, I will loop Strikers 1945 II/III soon, thank you guys :)

I unfortunately didn't have much spare time these past two weeks, especially the second week, so my results are pretty lackluster. :?

Time to turn 'em in, won't get another chance to play.

Mahou Keibitai Gun Hohki - 1ALL (6+5) - Replay here
Gemini Wing - 4 - http://imgur.com/cS3wDex
Nostradamus - 4 - http://imgur.com/207jrfd
Soukyugurentai - 3 - http://imgur.com/BK4BSTR
G Darius - 4 - http://i.imgur.com/h1nufMD.png

Overall 26

Spent most of these two weeks getting mad at Gun Hohki haha.
Nostradamus seems cool, I'll go back to that.
Souky I didn't get to grips with at all.

G Darius.. man, some of those boss ramming attacks are cheap as hell. But I know where the Darius love at.

I think I'm gonna have to fold on this one. Didn't play really at all this week, but the first few days I went guns blazing on R-Type. Got to stage 6 and should have cleared it, but that was my only decent result. I always used to rag on R-Type games, but I kind of enjoyed this one.

Sengeki Striker is a mess (got to 4).

Parodius Da! (got to 4) has a "!?" option on your power up menu bar thing that wipes out out all your power-ups/speed-ups/options and whatever else you've collected and starts you back at square one. Get fucked, Konami.

G-Darius is rad but I only continued through it and could tell this wasn't going to happen soon. I'm not sure I even did a clean run, but if I did it was only to stage 3 at best.

Legendary Wings shouldn't even count as a shooter. Half of it is the worst platformer of all time. I may have made it to stage 2, but that was probably still chapter 18 of stage 1.

Hopefully next time lady luck will throw me a bone and give me Twin Cobra 2 or something.

Could barely play at all this last week; only improvement was getting to Stage 2 in Darius... yay. :|

Well at least I reached the goal I was gunning for in DOJ. So, to recap:

Darius: Stage 2
Battle Garegga: Stage 5
Hotdog Storm: Stage 3
Blazing Star: Stage 4
DOJ Black Label: ALL

Final debriefing.

Daioh: Stage 4 - Didn't put a lot of time into this one to be honest. I do like it but the snipes are very real.
Pic

Salamander: 1-ALL - My first 1CC in Death Roulette! So much style to this game but also so very punishing if you bite it in the 2nd half of the loop.
Pic
Twitch recording of 1cc

Gradius: Stage 4 - Someday I'll put time into learning to clear this. Stupid volcanoes...
Pic

Thunder Dragon 2: Stage 7 - Happy that I got a PB on this. One of these days I'll finally put this game to rest...
Pic

Twinbee: Stage 6 - How can something so cute be so brutal??

Nice work everyone, that's it for URA. Results should be posted sometime tomorrow and I'll get in contact with this weeks champion so they can claim their prize. Hope you guys enjoyed playing some stuff you usually would't, even if there were some kusoge in the mix. Those wishing to participate in Loop 11 may begin their rolls now using the same pre-URA rules as we always have. There are no special orders from the colonel this week, as he is busy dealing with the aftermath of URA.

For this week:
  • Mushihimesama Futari BL - Original (360)- Reco - 4 Boss - 154153188
  • Perfect Cherry Blossom (this and EoSD are the only Touhous I've cleared on normal)
  • Undefined Fantastic Object - Easy - Sanae A - 6 Boss - didn't pay attention to score
  • Cho Ren Sa 68k - 2 - 116000? (crashed to desktop, doh!)
  • Kamui - 2 - 3892800
Current score: 14

Good to see a set I can score on (aside from Kamui, maybe), after what I had for Ura.

My roll for the upcoming week. Will be playing them all on MAME and probably finish early since I'm leaving for some vacation on Thursday :D It's gonna be an interesting week again, seeing there's only one game I've ever played before :?

Report round 11:
Stompp - Hotdog Storm - n/a - Stage 2 - 163280 - Pic
Stompp - Dodonpachi II: Bee Storm - Blue - Stage 3 - 29529710 - Pic

Stompp - Vasara 2 - Red - Stage 2 - 358170 - Pic
Stompp - Daioh - n/a - Stage 2 - 176670 - Pic

Total: 2+3+2+2+2= !11!

I have to admit I like DDP2 :D Vasara 2 and Daioh were also quite enjoyable but Hotdog Storm and Omega Fighter - pfft.

Loop 11 rolls:

system11 - Mushihimesama Cave Matsuri Ver 1.5 - stage 4 - 8990602
system11 - Ordyne - stage 4 - 132400
system11 - Cotton - stage 1 - 16500 (yeah... this was always going to end badly)
system11 - Gradius II: Gofer no Yabo - stage 3 - 100700
system11 - Slap Fight - area 21 (so 3 in imaginary stages based on major areas) - 43730

I actually own all of these on PCB so the cabs are going to get a bit of exercise (unless I get lazy and MAME them).

4 + 4 + 1 + 3 + 3 = 15

Disappointing.

Finally I can choose the games (so to speak) this time:

S_Fang - RefleX - Area 2A (Scorpio) - 548.774 2 The first title which wasn't played on MAME. Is really fun and the slowdowns caused by my old PC were useful in some parts.

S_Fang - G-Stream G2020 - Stage 7 - 3139210 7 Fun game, except the annoying tight timer of the pick-ups, making really difficult to manage your shot and keepeing it max.

S_Fang - Guwange - Shishin -Stage 3 - (couldn't read the kanjis of the score) 3 I really need to know how you configure a button designed for autofire instead of toggle the normal shot button, is really annoying to move the character with the shimigami on (perhaps the other characters are different?)

S_Fang - Daioh - Stage 3 - 884360 3
Awesome game, with lots of weapons and bombs, but is pretty hard fi you do not move well. Are there any weakness system for the enemies?

S_Fang - G.Darius Ver.2 - Zone B - 2737200 2 The capture gimmick is fun, but I have to study the bomb attack and the different enemies much better.

Total: !!17!!
