I just read through the entire thread and noticed that, sorry :D

Well, this definitely cramps my hand and does bad things to my eyes, much prefer the real deal, but since they are done with the initial development investment for it, it's likely easy for them to switch art assets and just focus on design / balancing and kick out other shooter themed games on DS... and profit (sounds like it is selling) since less time would be required as all the game systems are now built.

What's the deal with some panels being covered again with a sepia-tone panel and the next being darkened out? (in Evac Report)

They require further conditions to be met in order to be unlocked.

i would hope they make more ds death labels. ketsui ds is probably the only ds game i've put any significant time into in quite a while.

which game do you guys think should be next in line?

A Death Smiles conversion would be great, especially considering the hori orientation. The game is pretty popular and new, and even by its setting alone (little gothic girls) it would sell even more than Ketsui DL. Stage action would be a lot easier here, too, as I found Extra mode really unpleasant to play with all these enemies in crammed hori.

And yeah, seeing that Arika won´t do any Cave console ports anytime soon they might as well do some more of these handheld games.

Looks like there's more money in DS boss rush games than full arcade ports to home consoles, as far as shmups go these days.
(...)The last CAVE port (Ibara PS2) only sold about 4000 copies.
They would be daft to not make more of these games, even from a business standpoint. And I agree - music and art assets are already there. I mean, Mihara did this game completely on his own, right? That sounds like a great manpower to profit ratio to me! And who knows, Cave shmups coming to the DS might even get more people to get interested in the arcade games.
(It might, however, still be possible that Ketsui DL only sold so well because of that DVD, but I can´t really believe that... I think it has more to do with japanese people loving portable games.)

10,000 copies sold? wow, thats pretty good. i'd like to see the packaging stay the same for future releases (oversized box, pack-in superplay dvd). it's definitely worth $60 to me, and i assume arika makes a decent profit off such a package.

I guess if Cave decides it's a profitable thing to release the DS versions of their games, they'll likely outsource them to Arika, anyway.

Cave needs to do a "collection" release of all their shmups that have been made so far for the ps2/360/ps3 in retail box form.

One can dream. :(

I want a all-star boss rush with all bosses AND ships from Caves history (a bit like in Batrider). 8)

Agreed, that'd be awesome.

As it is, this one is very good indeed.

Currently Im stuck on Very Hard mode, the boss right before Doom is the one that gets me.... dont have all that much trouble with the bosses up to that point, but then I get to that looney thing and I just sorta go splat.... really hate that thing.

Excellent game though. I'd say this was more than worth the wait. Makes me wanna play the full Ketsui even more, too.....

DS Progear should be a no-brainer considering how well-loved that game is (and the art style has pretty broad appeal, more than Ketsui, surely). 2 and a half times as many copies as Ibara already? Do it, Cave.

That, and Muchi Muchi Pork.

MMP would be sweet since it has very intense bosses (with very menacing design, sort of a Batrider/Garegga meets Ketsui), complex scoring (I really don´t mind the bomb exploiting/suiciding) and best of all very big, easy to see bullets. From the looks of it it seems to be the most easy accessible "Cavezing" game so far, and I would kill for a DS port, even though it somehow seems rather unlikely to me.

MMP has way too much slowdown, it won't end up on the DS. If it did, it would be watered down, much like Ketsui DS is, and untrue to itself.

Ketsui DL is also "untrue" to the original game, yet it´s a very fine game by itself. I don´t expect a DS port to keep everything intact. The basic idea is to take the arcade game in question and translate it into a good portable game. Otherwise you could simply keep playing emulated Cave games on the PSP (Progear for instance). I bought Ketsui DL because it was the first handheld Cave game (if you don´t count the mobile games, which I do), not because it was a downgraded port of a unported and unemulated game.

unreal. i bet he was pissed at all those doom deaths. after he whipped evacaneer i thought for sure he was going to no-miss it.

edit: congrats to MMM, the real winner of the extra mode contest.

Yeah, Doom fucking raped his multiplier. Maybe he would have scored better if he had cashed in a bit on Evacaneer instead of using a slightly higher multiplier on Doom 1 and losing 70%ish by the time he cashes in on Doom 3?

While the run was really impressive, he could indeed have improved on it very easily - the dropped the multiplier quite a few times due to not killing parts with the shot.

Any yeah, congrats MMM, it´s a shame Mihara is too bone-headed to accept your score. Pretty arrogant if you ask me. Actually makes me wish I would have pirated the game, he doesn´t care for westeners but he sure took our money. :x

Just as a sidenote...I ran the DS audio for Ketsui DL through my son's gaming chair and, coming through half-decent speakers the soundtrack's fantastic!
There's all sorts of things going on aurally thast you just can't hear through those tiny DS speakers, but put it through an external amp and prepare to be amazed :D

If he only opened the scores to those in Japan it could have just been an effort to keep it more manageable. If MMM had submitted it in Japan, said 'I'm from Canada', then still not have it submitted, it could have given us a clearer picture.

Or maybe Mihara is just a pea brained dickhead.

Congrats to MMM anyway

Man this game is fun.... Still can't beat the Doom and Label modes yet though...

If cave does another shooter on the DS they should use the screens book-style (flipped on its side) and have an additional attachment for more buttons like with the DS version of Guitar Hero.

Never going to happen though...
