Just heads up.... I just got this game, so watch out boys, here I come!

I only had two runs so far, the first time I was still fiddling with the contrast and getting used to the control... the second time was maybe around 2.9 mil, nothing super yet.

I'm going to order a front lit SwanCrystal from mash-mods (playing on a standard WSC at the moment) and I'm going to try sticking one of my spare PSP D-pad covers on it, so hopefully I'll be able to see AND control it :)

But SWEET game so far these 7 minutes! This will definitely be my #1 choice of pick-up-and-play.

edit: Woohoo! I made it to the bottom of the score table!

Normal mode:
iatneH - 7,502,110 - Area 20
iatneH - 7,830,290 - Area 18 - found out that using shield boosts the multiplier... but now I lose more lives from aggressive play

And here's a question for Ghegs... I read that the Wondercoin shipped with Guilty Gear Petit? Do you know if it was separately packaged or contained inside the GGP package?

first time making it to the 3rd judge.

Sorry, I've totally missed this question.

It was inside the GGP package. If I recall, the eBay auction I got it from said the package had the Wondercoin included as well as showing it on the picture. I had asked few sellers who were also selling the game if the Wondercoin was included, but they hadn't even known it should be there. So it might be possible for a copy of GGP to have it even when it's not mentioned in the auction.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Thanks Ghegs. I've been spending too much money lately so I may hold off on GGP. I'm doing OK with the controls for now, enough to continue to improve. Still a long ways from challenging you though!

New score:

Normal mode:
iatneH - 10,569,530 - Area 21

Should we PM Super Laydock for an update?

edit: Got my front-lit SwanCrystal today. Oh my goodness. The screen is so much clearer, I can see details on the sprites I never saw before. I don't think I can go back to WSC :)

Aaarrrgghh..!! SO close to grabbing #2 spot!

Welcome back Super Laydock! Yes, I saw from your profile that your last post was from quite a ways back.

I'm looking to capture #2 soon!

Should be possible I think, since the top 4 is extremely close together.

Maybe someone should give Ghegs a run for his money!? His score still seems untouchable. :?

I certainly won´t break it soon. Recently started playing it again and couldn't even get to 6 mil. anymore. :(

That last score I submitted was from the first (and so far only) time I beat the mirror boss. I'm still only at Area 21, but if I could just get a *little* bit farther, I might come closer to giving Ghegs a bit of pressure. jp and Druuna are at areas 25 and 27, so maybe I can do it by Area 25, if I can make it that far...

Yeah captain ahar, I do have a spare PSP D-pad cover kicking around, but purely for the sake of aesthetics, I haven't applied it to my SwanCrystal. Maybe it'll be the little push I need to get those extra 100K points?

Yes!!!!!
Just barely taken 1st place!!!!!!!!

Still experimenting with some new ways to get small score increases in the early areas, which make all the difference later on.

I will post a picture of my ranking sometime later. Internet at the dorm is down and I don't want to haul my laptop this week...

iatneH - 13,220,950 - Area 25

I'd like to make a replay sometime but for the life of me, I can't find the ROM anywhere. I'm not sure if Oswan can record inputs anyway though.

Thanks, that run was a huge rush, although I still broke up severely towards the end.

Maybe I can start writing a GD (I don't know enough exact details for a ST), but I'm not sure how well I can describe the techniques (or rather, how well you guys can understand my descriptions) without a video reference...

Here's the photo proof!

edit: Brand new GD posted in the strategy board, have a look and help me out!

I am sure this will motivate Ghegs to start playing again and reclaim the top spot. :P

@iatneh: looks like a pretty extensive GD you wrote in the strategy section.
It´s getting much too late for me now (have to work in a few hours and desperately need some sleep) but will read it thoroughly tomorrow and see if I can add to it and help out.

I believe earthy ground begins somewhere in Area 21, but I haven't encountered the red Magnificence yet.
I got free play unlocked now so maybe I'll see if it comes up somewhere after where I die... Unless it's some kind of special boss with certain requirements for reaching...

The top 2 are very close so I expect Ghegs to come back quickly...

But hopefully with some of the GD strategies, you guys can have some new scores to post soon too!

edit:
I noticed captain ahar is actually pretty close to my own score checkpoint. I usually have just over 6 million after the battle with Magnificence in Area 13.

Anyway, some bad news captain, I played from Area 21 to Area 30 on free play and didn't come across any red Magnificence. I couldn't beat the Area 30 Judge so I don't know what comes after that, but by then the earthy background was gone already.
And then I didn't like the look of the last digit in my cumulative score, so I erased my save data by the "pull out the cartridge while saving" thing, and no more free play :P

Might it be exclusive to the Wonderwitch downloadable versions? JSS Recycle Edition possibly? Then I wonder why it's on the box of Rebirth Edition...

Waitaminute... I'm looking at my box right now, but I am not sure what the caption under the red Magnificence picture says... something about "Special stage added"? The ground also looks different from anything I've seen. As far as I have seen, we only have some barren cratered ground, but not some flowery field.

Anybody give a translation?

edit: Thanks, got the ROM and emulator. But Holy input lag. I've been on the emulator for an hour and I still haven't been able to break 5 million yet. The button presses lag so sometimes I can't move/shield in time, and the button release also lags so I often overshoot my movement target and crash into bullets/enemies.

Might be a while before I train myself on this to make a replay.

Got this awesome game a few days ago along with a WonderSwan. Definitely the best handheld shmup I've ever played, not that I've played a lot...

I'll see what I can do but I doubt I can challenge with the greatests.
Playing on SwanCrystal which appears rather tiny for my hands. I'd like to 1cc this one before starting to go for score but I doubt I can achieve it. I've played trainning mode once and some areas were kind of hellish even at that low difficulty level. Anyway, here's my score for now. Hope I can reach the 10M mark one day.

Welcome to the forum and JSS hiscore fellow Canadien!

That's an excellent score for having played only a few days! Might even be very close to my own score checkpoint for Area 20. Keep it up and I might have to start playing again :)

Hadn't touched JSS for a few day. I had been trying to beat my score but wasn't familiar enough with the game patterns, most of the time taking too much risk for score and dying.

Gave it a rather smooth try today and managed to get past Area 20, still
not reaching 10M yet though.

Reached 10M tonight. Gotta work on building a resonnable multiplier in Area 5 as well as 14 and not to waste a life in Area 19. Still a long way to 13 millions...

Remember what is your actual score before or after Area 20? I'm curious to know, I'm very close to catching 11M before the mirror boss, did 10.95M and died just before the end checkpoint of Area 19. Checkpoint time bonus was added to my score. My multiplier sucked badly when I killed Area 13's boss though.

What I really like about improving my JSS game is that there is no super-replay videos available on the net. Or at least I haven't spotted any, back when I was looking on some clips to see what the game was like before purchasing. That said, I don't have to resist the temptation to watch master players' performances to more easily apprehend patterns and tricks, I get to learn all by myself, improving more slowly without a doubt but with much more satisfaction I'd say. Without any entention to judge anyone, I also don't have to compete against players who'd rather watch high score runs to reach the top faster than learn the game by themselves.

I should be able to reach 12-13 M soon, the fun is about to begin. :P

Fun for you :P I'm starting to get scared to check this thread. I've never been at the top of any game and one day soon I'm going to look and I won't be there anymore

Anyway, excellent progress! I am also happy with my own score since I had to figure out the scoring strats on my own too. Tried half-heartedly to make a replay but my joypad adaptor is too laggy.

Never been at the top either... until now. Hopefully, IatneH'll start playing again and we can battle for the first spot. ;)

It always feels great to break a personnal best. I usually keep an eye on the score while playing and my hands tend to start shaking when I break my hiscore.

shit -- these are some obscene scores! I'm not sure how you guys do it.

iatneH, thanks for posting that GD. I'm going to try some of the tactics mentioned in there and see if I can't push my score up from the 6mil its been hovering around.
