There is no limit.

The rules about what evolves into what are very simple, but nothing liek the wiki.

here's how it goes.

You start with the first 4 pieces, + 2 weapons. the game tracks whether what you destroy is on the top or the bottom, and only counts the left or the right side, whichever you hit first.

The FIRST piece you blow off on any given piece is replaces with a piece and two more guns, up until the maximum extension for that stage range is reached. Then that dirction will not extend any more until you reach the next stage evolution point. (next colum on the chart)

You can shoot the core directly from the top without destroying any parts. this will keep the boss from evolving. It is progressively more difficult each time, though. soone or late r you will blow up a cannon.

Other rules.

The core inherits defense form every piece attached to it.

Each of the four corners inherits defense form what's attached to it, but not form the other corners. and so on. it branches out,w tith outer parts being weak and intner parts gettings stronger.

WHen an inner part is sdestroyed with many outer parts still on it, it gains more defense then if you took it donw piece by piece.

The positions of the nitial cannons you destroy on sections determine what piece is attached to replace it.

Here's my latest:

Edge - 27'458'200 - 21 - 8 - 10'37'36

replay

Handling the evolution of the core is pretty important. I try to keep him developing in a way that it still has enough weakspots later.

Nice to see I'm not the only one trying to get a good score.

If you develop the boss into something with a lot of weak spots, it will not evolve into a very good scoring boss though.

Since you provided your replay, thought you might like to see mine, maybe. I think we play quite similarly, except you take more care on your shooting angle than I do. Link

After some distraction from other games I returned to this game yesterday, and made a new score today:

Edge - 28'781'200 - 23 - 9 - 11:00:00

replay

I wonder how some people can get scores like 60 million, I guess I should look for other tactics. Anyway this game is still fun to play. :)

Dale-13568800-Stg8-Died6-time 7:55:03-Normal Game

What a blast it seems to help if you switch attack areas every round so he can't focus on any one area.

What a nice game! I played it a little and got pretty good hi-score (3 ships mode):

PapaLenin - 16089000 - 19 - 5 - 10:48:04

Edit:
Small update

PapaLenin - 17 101 600 - 19 - 7 - 11:54:21

I took this screenshot from one version earlier but didn't post it then because I had trouble registering here. I won't attempt to match my then skill, in the new version as my main technique for this game is a very dangerous wristkiller and I need my wrists :P

Image

3 ships mode, pure as the designer intended it. Shame I cannot be added to the scores as this isn't new version.

Wow, now this is a Hi-score :D

BTW, there is no difference between 1.06 and 1.07, the guy just fixed one rare graphical bug (according to changelog)

Thanks. I just realized I was wrong when I said it was three ships mode, dunno what I was thinking. This is death = seconds penalty, as is the original mode of the game. After all, 15 deaths? Three ships? Silly of me. It's just been a while.

Yeah the reason why I said use the current version because I do know everything that the author has put in to the game. he may have also added in some extra evolutions of the boss(?). I like to stick on the safe side... :(

Cheers for the scores SteevTee!

I've taken out the "Overall Rankings" because it was getting to bothersome to update it all the time. I did not think we would get as many players on this game. Keep up the good work guys!

Here you go, just extract the .rec file to the 'rec' folder in the WF directory...

After not playing this game for months, I decide to give it a go, and, lo and behold! I beat my old Highscore by 3mil on the first try.

replays of the stages from this run (I think) here.

Oh look, a high score board for me and my crappy skills to totally pwn.

Normal
shoe-sama - 44,366,000 - 35 - 15 - 14:20:20

I avoid shooting the rear for about 20 levels to prevent it from evolving.

Normal
shoe-sama - 50,171,800 - 28 - 13 - 12:14:14 - Replay

That was a crappy run, lol. I can easily no miss up to Catastrophe, but I didn't care to restart.

I post too much.

Normal
shoe-sama - 59,623,600 - 29 - 10 - 13:40:00 - Replay

Sped up boss evolution by destroying the guns, but didn't expect Catastrophe on stage 16. Oh well, more x100 chain bonuses for me.

The dodging in 26 was pretty badass.

Haha if the table's by stage, I could probably get to stage 50+ by keeping the rear intact the entire time.

woah new score

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v481/ ... f705hk.png

Normal
shoe-sama - 70,493,600 - 36 - 15 - 15:30:20 - Replay

Stage 16 Hammerhead and Stage 23 Catastrophe

That actually wasn't a good run. I just lucked out because the boss evolved fatass lasers.

And here's the cheapest evolution strategy ever.

You can do stuff like this with it.

Image

LOLWTF

It can gets you to like... stage 120 if you don't mess up. At max defense, boss destroy times range from 30-35 for a low piece count front section, 35-40 after the front fattens. It'll drop under 30 for a couple of stages when you mess up, then after that you get owned.

I only got to stage 51 with like a 66M score or something though. Scoring potential might be something like... 220M (base point bonus increases as you go along).

Basically don't evolve the rear.

Also, you're screwed if you get hit by missiles or cannons, since the boss will level up whatever weapon kills you. Those weapons are quite brutal when maxed out.

Twitching to thin out your shot can reduce the chances of accidentally destroying a rear vulcan. You're dead as soon as the rear evolves.

Rawrgh replay demonstration.
