Warning Forever v1.07 High Score Thread

[About]
For those who have been living under a rock Warning Forever is a free PC shoot-em-up made by a very cleaver Japanese person that pits the player agasint an endless wave of boss fight after boss fight. In "Normal Mode" (my personal favourate) instead of lives in this game you get time and for everytime you get hit you lose 20 seconds of your time. Beat the boss and you will earn back some time, simple right? Well to begin with yes but later on in the game... my god!

[Download]
Offical Webpage! (This is a direct link to the download page!)
*BONUS!* BGM Music! - Save file to WF diectory. Put music on as "fade" in the in game option menu for maxium effect!

[Rules]
Please stick to either using the following rule setups. (do not use "custom") "Normal," "3 Ships," "Sudden Death," and "5-Minute Attack". Normal mode scores go in the Normal mode table and so on...

You may change the Stage Replay and Setup Dialogue box to your preferance since they do not have any impact on gameplay.

Do not try to cheat or explot the rules in an unfair way.

[Score Entry Format]
Type out your score as mentioned next to the name of the score board. For example for a "Normal" mode score it would be...
Danny - 13,425,300 - 16 - 8 - 08:04:05

I was wondering where the BGM was for this game! Thanks so much for that link.

Now, when you ask us to use those settings... can we change the Stage Replay and Setup Dialogue box? I just want to be checking, y'know

That aside, here's mine.

Yeah but as you mentioned in that thread... nobody is maintianing a tabel properly on that thread. I don't mean to step on any body's toes here but I do like this game thus I wanted to make a active hi-score board for it. Look at the thread creator's post count, he or she has not posted back since march 2005! :(

Don't you hate that? That always happens to me - I'll be doing really well, and then I'll get to a stage and just keep running into bullets

No problem with a new thread; all I meant was you might want to harvest the scores from the old thread. Unless the version changes make a difference (I'm not really familiar with the game), so just ignore me if they do.

Would you consider making tables here for "3 Ships," "Sudden Death," and "5-Minute Attack" modes? It might be interesting to see how different people do on the different "standard" settings.

In any event, here's my submission for "Normal" mode.

Just adjusted the top thread to BM's suggestion.

20 of the most skilled players from each table will be rewarded points in the overall ranking table ranging from 10pts to 200pts. You can lose/gain points by going down/up on any of the 4 score boards.

Have fun!

p.s: I've not taken any of the scores from 1.6 because I am also unaware of any of the changes that have happen since the update thus I would consider it to be unfair.

Just tried a bit of 3 ships mode :
Sword - 15.778.800 - stg 14 - dead 4 - time 6:59:12

3 ships mode is pretty great. You get extends by blowing up parts separately, but then of course you're missing out on the huge chainbonus you can get by just destroying the core.. Choices, choices..

Nice I'll update it...

Just put up a more beefier score for the 3 ship mode table. My first attempt was me just messing around before catching the bus but I'm much happier with my new score. :)

p.s: If you are wondering what the number in brackets is next to your name in overall ranking it's how many top 20 scores you have got on the four differnt Warning Forever high score boards.

Since noone's done a Sudden Death entry, I'll do one. I could've done it better than this, but I'm too tired to care anymore.

Sudden Death

Just downloaded the game and I have to say it is a blast.
This game totally got me in. Pretty intense gameplay. :)

Here's my score for now:

10'216'900 - 16 - 10 - Time 7:10:00 (normal mode)

Awesome game, I think i'll give it a couple of shots again. Ah yeah, I am not really sure about the score mechanics, I think destroy the core as fast as possible is also good for scores but I have no idea...?

I have just started to try out some freeware shmups. So any other great freeware ones you'd reccomend beside this one?

BTW, the music is from the anemi show Naruto, that's the track "Bad Situation". So it seems WF don't have any music but you can place any .ogg file into the directory and rename it to bgm. I tried to play it with the Spriggan opening theme. And It really fits great. :D

Well, I knew I could do better, so I wanna change my score for Sudden Death. Hee.

Sudden Death

EmperorTuna 14121200 - 16 - 1 - 07:25:48

Picture here

I personally dont care about the score mechanics, I just like making big things 'splode.

I seem to get better scores though when I fight The Pheonix at level 16, with Wide Attacker variations before that. How to get different variations depends on how you fight and destroy The Pure Heart variations from level 1-3. There is a flow chart here that shows you all the evolutionary forms of the boss. Chances are you've only fought the Hammerhead and Pheonix as they are the most simple to get. Perhaps the Asura. To get different forms, try destroying the Pure Heart in a certain pattern, E.G destroying a corner and then the corner diagonally opposite that, then ignore the other corners and take on the core. It also evolves according to how you destroy the corners, Attacking from the side, from the front/back or from a diagonal causes different variations. There is an article at wikipedia here that explains it better than I can.

I don't want to derail the thread too much, but for starters I'd recommend Cho Ren Sha 56K, Bike Banditz, the ABA shmups (Parsec57, Torus Trooper, etc.), the Murasame shmups (Hitogata Happa, Gundeadligne, etc.) and the "Shanghai Alice" games (Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Night, etc.). There are plenty of other good ones too, but those pop most immediately to mind.

The evolution road you choose is very important for your scores.

Before I always got to the Phoenix, then tried to change the way i kill the first bosses and got to the Hammer Head and Asura. I score much better at the Asura, it can be faster taken down than the other two forms in my opinion.

New score:

Edge - 16'281'200 - 14 - 7 - 7:10:00

And again 7:10:00. :P

Edit:
Another update:

Edge - 17'306'300 - 16 - 11 - 7:03:33

This one was very funny. During the run my pad broke.
The D-Pad got loose and didn't response. So i stood on the screen for about 5 seconds, with the D-pad loose lying on the pad. I tried to repair it and it simply fell down. So i controlled the rest of the run with pushing this broken part behind the D-pad. And luckily it responded, but my thumb still hurts from that. I need to get a new pad now.

I should make a photo to explain how the pad looks now.

You haven't even updated it yet and I've beaten my score again.

Sudden Death

EmperorTuna - 19,048,700 - 16 - 1 - 09:51:44

Proof here if it's needed.

So embarrassing really. I could've beaten it but I foolishly ran into a corner and trapped myself. Go me!

Congrats for guessing the theme man. Yeah WF does have an offical music track but I did not think very much of it and figured that, that particular music track fitted the bill.

Oh and thanks to everybody who submitted scores so far... :)

This game absorbed me today. I'm satisified, finally.

3 Ships mode

22,806,500 - 18 - 5 - 10:57:08

Proof is in the pie, if needed

Also did a Normal Mode

28,399,100 - 19 - 5 - 10:20:00

That proof thing I do

I've been playing this game intermittently for about 6 months and I still can't get enough of it. - I've never really played the Normal modes seriously before. I always hopped on Custom to see how far I can get with 999 seconds. This is why my score tables in those screenshots suddenly jump higher ^^.

Feel like I'm showing off now so I'm gonna stop playing.
