Is it possible for a name to kill a console before it's even released?

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

They had other problems. Indrema didn't ever produce a working prototype or anything but press releases; Nuon - not a bad name, especially compared to "Wii" - was underpowered and lacked titles.

Those who suggest a different name for countries other than Japan can forget about it. Console names are worldwide from now, and this isn't changing.

But I would also bet money that the final product will have a different name. Whatever they were thinking when they came up with Wii, they'll be forced to think again or face disaster.

So the Nintendo Revolution is now known as "Wii"..

Now boys and girls, it's time for a classic "Dick and Jane" story for children of all ages:

------------------------
Dick wants Jane to suck on his "wii-wii" (er, "wee-wee")...he wants a blow-job now dammit! A hand-job just won't cut it with Dick. See Jane's satisfy his sexual wants and mores. See that Dick can't get enough.

The End
------------------------ Just a lil' j/k here... ^_~

Response 1: What huh? Why? Wee? Which is it?

Response 2: It's pronounced We? Isn't that the name of a women's tv channel?

This name has got to go. Wii? GET OUT. It's just too Wiird. *laughing derisively*

Just look at all the jokes that have already ensued. Maybe this is what Nintendo wants- everyone will be talking about a stupid name.

I'm betting Nintendo of America WILL change this name. Just what was so wrong with Revolution?

Thank you for a million laughs, Nintendo.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Yes, We (Women's Entertainment Channel) is the actual name of that particular channel. Nintendo's spelling of "Wii" is pronounced "We" as in "we" are going to Disneyland. Not you but the blond with a sexy hourglass figure next to you.

lol - i like it. I totally dig the name - i can now make my girlfriend laugh by telling her i'm gonna go play with my Wii. I'm gonna put my Wii on the carpet and play with it in front of the tv. I can't wait to invite all my friends over to play with my Wii. I bet they'll have a blast.

I'm not being sarcastic either, i really do like it. I love Wii. I especially love my Wii, and i don't even have it yet. Thank you, Nintendo. My girlfriend will get many kicks out of me and my Wii. And orgasms.

To bad they didn't call it Wang.

Yes good post. I happen to agree though I'm not bothered by the name. Well it's pretty fucking dumb.

You guys. I seriously doubt that the name will affect sales in even the slightest bit. It's Nintendo.

Just found this little poll over at a jp videogame website.

まもなく開幕するE3 2006。あなたは?(E3 is going to start soon. You are?)
任天堂の発表に期待 (looking forward to Nintendo's announcements)
56%

SCEの発表に期待 (looking forward to SCE's announcements)
27%

マイクロソフトの発表に期待 (looking forward to Microsoft's announcements)
15%

http://plusd.itmedia.co.jp/games/articl ... ws040.html Check the right side.

The japanese seem pretty hyped about the Wii(ner) (japan is full of pervs from what I've heard...)
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

Wii - it'll take time to get accustomed with the name, but I guess it's a good thing they didn't go with "Revolution". That was very arrogant.

Besides, Wii is quite in line with the DS philosophy. You know, the one for which every hardcore gamer was totally laughing at that dog-tamagotchi - and it still blew out the competition...

But still not half as obnoxious as their bullshit reasoning for the name, complete with two "i"s.

I liked Revolution. Its arrogance would have been a massive boon to Nintendo, I think... plus the name practically would have forced them to keep all of their promises!
