And then it's a pain these days to find a proper tv/monitor. I don't know if I'll ever have a set-up that suits my various goals. E.g., I would love to be able to play my DC shooters with S-video rather than standard composite, but I've never been able to get it to synch right. Maybe the cheap S-video cables are the culprit, I have no idea.

would it be unanimously hated if they included a rank meter in the games or does that take the fun out of it?

Isn't there a limit for the rank display bar? As in the bar can max out, but the actual rank will keep rising? I remember seeing quite a few of icarusfw's pink sweets 1.00 videos with his rank bar at max, but I heard somewhere that the rank in Pink sweets can get so high that the rose cracker stops canceling bullets (which didn't happen in those videos).

I heard if you do Liu Kangs fatality while on the pit stage and the witch is flying backwards on the bicycle that your opponent wont come back down the screen and they land in the shrine of heroes 30 seconds in. If you get them to land on the Sub Zero statue you can fight Ermac.

Joking aside - basically, I wouldn't put much faith in this unless we see a legit vid :-P Though can't you just jack the rank up to max in PS through practise mode?

Nope that seems to be the ballpark. The top end of the ballpark getting into BIN chancer territory, but in there nonetheless.

I decided to look around to try and find where I read the rose cracker would stop cancelling bullets. Turns out it was Hardcore gaming 101. I'm guessing I should disregard that then?

There may be a point where rank is so high that everything is uncancellable, but it's highly unlikely that anyone will ever reach it outside of deep into Extended Mode. The only real way to push rank up fast is the autofire-B method, and even then, you'd have to be holding it down for at least the whole of the first four or five stages.

So does that mean that the actual rank does keep rising even after the meter fills up?

I'm talking about the arcade version, which is known to have either a very high rank ceiling, or no limit to the rank counter.
The port tops out once it hits the end of the bar, and is thus considered its own version because of this difference, and not actually "ported" from the arcade versions.
Also, I actually prefer the X360 port because of this, because the game becomes far more consistent once you hit max rank. Having no rank ceiling means you have to be wary of just how hard you're pushing it.

Seriously? Man Pink Sweets is really hard to standardize... Does that make Pink Sweets v1.00 any easier than the arcade versions, or is it just as borderline impossible to 1cc? I heard nobody has ever 2-ALL'd the game (or even reached the second loop outside of extended mode), but has anybody managed to do one of those things in v1.00?

(and suddenly this thread is about Pink Sweets :P)

Extended is the only mode that has two loops.

I thought that you could get to the second loop in the normal mode by no missing the entire game (which is apparently impossible)?
I could be remembering things wrong... Was that the requirement for Muchi Muchi Pork?

People have done v1.00 - just not on this forum. The only other known PS clears in the west were done on arcade versions with the infinite lives triggered.
Extended Mode has also been done on the arcade versions by Japanese players, again with infinite lives triggered.

I also wouldn't say that 1.00 is "easier" - if anything the rank could have an absurdly high rank ceiling and faster rank scaling. We won't know until its been reverse-engineered, which will never happen until the X360 is emulated or someone finds a way to intercept the data being streamed from the console's brains. The game certainly feels difficult, but then again, at max rank 1.00 also feels manageable with the right strategies. I practiced my strategies using savestates in MAME, and it doesn't feel that different.

PS: you're thinking of MMP 1.00. That "no-miss for the second loop" requirement isn't impossible, either, just very difficult to do without proper planning.

A Sony PVM monitor is the way to go, and the Hanzo VGA box for the Dreamcast is a worthwhile investment (it even has scan line options). The PVM can handle composite, s-video, and VGA, and it looks incredible.

Strange, I have a Sony PVM-2030 and S-video looks like crap on it. RGB input looks fantastic, but I've tried to play my Saturn and DC on it with S-video and the former is too dark and the latter comes in pretty much black-and-white. Not sure what the problem is.

Yeah, that's the price if you're not patient and you want it complete and minty. And now I'm afraid to touch the thing!

If you use some string to tie the boxes together you can actually build the Battle Trilogy collection .

Day 1 purchase for me, if only for Garegga and APB.

I checked on eBay to buy a reasonably priced player copy of Garegga, only to find exorbitant (180$+) prices. I recall very vividly having bought/sold my copy for 60$ on here not too long ago.

Such a collection, although never happening, would be welcome.

Explain? Only Garegga is ported, Batrider and Bakraid are unreleased on home consoles.
