A year or so ago at Virginia beach: they have an arcade there called Flipper Mccoy's, and it's a really nice arcade. Besides the usual redemption games, they had a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 machine, a row of beat em ups from Capcom and data east, ghouls 'n ghosts, an original punch-out! cab, some weird variant on tetris from sega (bloxeed I believe), a Neo Geo (Samurai Shodown 2, Puzzle bobble, Art of fighting, and something else), and some other nice stuff. They only had two shmups, but they were decent ones: Raiden 2 (first time I got to play the game actually) and Aero-Fighter.

edit: oh yeah, and 1942.

Not an actual arcade, but there's a bowling alley I've been to that has the standard lightgun games (I think it's HoD and maybe an older Time Crisis or Terminator), plus some driving games (At least Daytona USA, but possibly others), but also Sega Bass Fishing and a Galaga / Ms. Pacman.
Nothing too interesting though, but it's at least slightly more varied than usual. Kind of sad that they clearly have a Naomi though, and will probably never put a shmup in it :(

It's actually a game store, not an arcade, but the place is called Warp Zone, they're in Columbus, Ohio. Fuckin' great place

I saw that Dariusburst multiscreen cab in Manila last year.

To be honest I don't see many arcades these days, seeing a shmup is rare.

I'm going to Blackpool this month. Last time I went was 1994 so I will take some pics of the remainder of the arcades.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Last time was my last trip to Ann Arbor. They have a nice arcade there.

I will try to check out Warp Zone. I go to Columbus a couple times a year.

Not strictly an arcade, but the last shmup in an arcade machine I saw was at the Roadhouse in Manchester, circa 2004. They had Carrier Airwing on.

In an actual arcade though... I saw a Flying Shark cab in Great Yarmouth in about 2001, but it had a non-shmup game running in it. So the last one was probably Raiden II around 1998-2000 in Bournemouth. Even then shmups were rare, with racing, light gun and fighting games making up most of the stock.

Currently, there's a Dynamo cab running a USA region Raiden II PCB at the local Rico's Pizza joint in Empire, CA...the 19" RGB monitor is very crisp and bright as usual -- no screen burn-in issues to contend with either.

It's great to see a Raiden II cab up & running -- has the usual Fabtek produced Raiden II full-sized marquee that's backlit as well.

Saw a Capcom's 3 Wonders PCB (with the Midnight Wanderers shmup title) up & running at the Oakdale Yogurt Shop based out of Oakdale, CA -- the monitor is just about on the fritz & it's barely playable. A simple monitor re-cap job and it'd be back in business like the good ol' days of the arcades.

Both both cabs listed above take quarters as the gold choice to credit 'em up properly. Of course, those cabs are placed in local businesses on what's known as "a street location route" -- lingo that's very familiar with the amusement/vending distributors, indeed.

Our local shopping center has a combination retro games store and arcade in it. They have a few shmup cabs set up in there that usually contain Ikaruga, Galaga, and Gradius. Sadly I don't get up there too much.

Yup. That "Mission Craft" machine in the picture is also a shmup (and made by one of the owners taboot); don't know how it plays though. Outside of GGA, shmups are kinda rare in Chicago area (b)arcades, outside of Galaga (of course). Logan Arcade on Fullerton and Western has a Playchoice-10 that occasionally has Gradius and 1942 in the rotation though.
