If it had been say... the latter half of season three we were waiting for then I'd agree. Five hasn't grabbed me as much as the earlier few seasons, but it's still far and beyond anything else I've seen that I'm looking forward to it. Will probably not watch until the weekend though.

There wasn't as much conspiracy bullshit in the air... we're not talking about TV. The internet has spoon fed the masses whatever they want to eat. Didn't have that in the 90's. Looking back now, Mulder can lay it on pretty thick, but then again, the caliber of TV in general was not nearly up to where it is now. The only other thing I can mention on the same level of X-Files until then was Twin Peaks. It is well written and produced though, and that's really what we're talking about. Closure I thought was one of the best episodes.

I watched the Season 5 Part 2 premiere. Usual stuff I've loved the series for. I think cools is right. Season 5 took a slightly new direction, and the last 5 episodes of Season 3 for me were the clencher. I think we're in for a ride though.

The Wire is the pinnacle of modern storytelling, but it's a very unconventional show and needs your complete, undivided attention.

Breaking Bad is the pinnacle of well-structured and easy to get into drama.

This is pretty accurate. The Wire has a style that we see in film these days: no central character per se, and each season is a self-contained story, although they definitely weave into one another. Definitely some of the most memorable characters in TV.

Breaking Bad is very gritty (especially for basic cable), and I dare say more pronounced than The Wire. The Wire has ups and downs, no doubt. Breaking Bad, to me, builds more tension, and quite often with little or no body count.

I honestly believe that both of the primary actors understand exactly how special these roles are, and they are soaking it up. I love that. These aren't a couple of dickhead actors that are pissed about not making enough per episode or whatever.

I love that about the show. They both seem to be enjoying the moment and they appear to appreciate their fans.

Also, 'Blood Money' raked in almost 6 million viewers, which is twice the previous record for the show. Breaking Bad is kind of a thing now.

Oh my goodness Teh brakes have really gone now.

Spoilervision (just in case) Had to do a bit of revision to appreciate the full impact of the discovery which led to that climax. I'd forgotten it's not been a year's wait for the characters, and also just how raw the Brock issue still was for Jesse at the start of this season.

There seems to be a lot more hype for the show in mainstream Britfordland media, this time around. Telegraph and Indie won't STFU. Not sure if there's any way but Netflix to actually watch the current season over here? Anyway who cares. Thanks piracy! Really hope they nail the coffin shut with this final series, I've liked this as much as other crime drama favourites The Sopranos, The Shield and The Wire but they all could've ended a half-season sooner (or in The Shield's case, got awesome a couple seasons earlier). This is feeling just right.
