Part 1 had the best setting, and the best villians...and you could argue it had the best story. If they remake it(Kojipro), I'll be all for it.
MGS does have a really solid story, but I still prefer the story of MGS 3 if for no reason than, the ending with the boss. That's still one of the most emotional moments I've had in a game.

In a sane world this would be a compliment.
Is that seriously the only thing, or the most important, you got from that article?

Most of it rings true. Especially the bits about fans acting shitty, but the interviewee also lets on a reason why some of the fans have acted badly - Konami is good at fucking things up. I've had my own share of it, and although I never brought any grief to Konami people, it was quite tempting after being told to "check out" some shit mobile phone game.

Back to the quote - you can't expect all MGS fans to be there for the gameplay; some loved the storylines (for what reason, and here I agree with you, God knows) over actual gameplay.

^ Snatcher doesn't really have cutscenes, it's an interactive text adventure. It's a better game than MGS imo, while Penguin Adventure is more of a game than either.
Really? It's not even a game.... it's a interactive comic book. MG is WAY more a game than Snatcher hands down.

Let me correct myself...

WE GET IT!! YOU HATE METAL GEAR'S CUTSCENES!!!

Why do the same haters even bother giving so much attention to something they dislike? If you don't like the series why spam the same crap over and over.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

You're jumping to conclusions again Strider. I don't think most of the people talking here hate GMS. Frankly I think the cutscene debate here has in general been far more thought out than a typical thread and I certainly don't hate the series, despite hating the poor quality of storytelling in MGS 2 and 4.

I'm a fan of the series, and the sales say so are alot of other folks. However, being a fan.. it's to bad whenever a new thread is started it mostly contains negative remarks. Not to mention the same remarks usually from the same folks.

It's come to the point that I actually dread seeing a thread on Metal Gear b/c the majority of it will be raking it through the coals. Bottom line, I just wish a thread on Metal Gear would attract folks that like the games also.

One of these day I'll get it threw my head that the internet is mostly for haters.

See you're looking at it completely different than I am. As I see it, the series is a fine series, but it has problems. There is nothing wrong with being critical of something you love and that's exactly what happens with the MGS cutscenes. They are a problem. They are a problem that has not been addressed and if we don't complain about them, then the issue will just be ignored. It's been quite well shown lately that complaining does result in studio attention.

Strider gimme a break man, plz.

I just agree with all the other folks who mentioned elements about MGS that suck.
I feel as though the criticisms are valid enough to stand by: I don't think Kojima has a good enough understanding of script writing, storytelling or general entertainment for the amount he tries to cram into his semi-game games. I agree with Njiska that he needs an editor - or replacement - to give the series a new lease of life. I'm talking Resident Evil 4 overhauls required.

As for Snatcher, it's a game still, and it happens to be more concise, to the point, entertaining and engrossing, without being frustrating, confusing, annoying, and overly complex. That's why I prefer it. Great fun.

Only if they're overlong and painfully boring/nonsensical/self-important and irrelevant. Some of MGS2's cutscenes are my favourite in any game: I adore the Golden Gate Bridge opening and Revolver Ocelot's party tricks, and all the Dead Cell stuff. It's just the rest of it that's mostly garbage.

My complaint is there is more criticism than anything else. If you guys have the right to trash aspects, I have the right to defend those aspects. It doesn't matter at this point, I'll "give you a break".

These discussions do get kind of pointless though. It's not like Kojima can hear us.

Oh, and SkyKid, have you been able to play more of PW? I was curious as to your reaction of it.

Sold my PS3 and sold the MGS HD set too. I did think it was fairly promising and I have every intention of going back to it, but I would rather play through Snake Eater first, as that's the only missing link for me in 1-4. I keep hearing great things about it, but first time I attempted SE, I just ditched it after around 2/3 hours. The lack of game and intrusive cutscenes drove me mad, and I was playing the PS2 original, so it was infuriatingly broken in terms of stealth vs no radar vs a camera that you can barely see anything with.

Anyone know if it's worth playing on 3DS?

I've heard the 3DS version is poor.

I tried the demo just now. Seems fine tbh, but I'd need the circle pad pro to make it an optimal experience and that's not out yet for the XL.

Kojima's name doesn't even appear in Penguin Adventure's staff roll at the ending. I have serious doubt he had anything meaningful to do with that game, yet nowadays he's always credited like he made the game alone.

Hmm, you could be right, but the abundance of secrets and oddities in the game, like dropping down holes and bartering fish, the most ridiculous requirement to finish it properly and other obscure bonuses definitely feel like he had a hand in its design.

I'd be very interested to hear concrete information either way, if anyone has any.

I've heard that Snake Eater 3D adds Peace Walker's style of crouch walking, which seems like it could break certain stealth setpieces.

MGR Revengeance's 360 version has been cancelled in Japan, for obvious reasons. They'll probably cancel Zone of the Enders HD on 360 there too, since it's going to include the demo.
