Hasn't been announced for a home port as far as I know, though one is likely. You also forgot about French Bread's Under Night In-Birth.

As for Under Night In-Birth, I haven't even seen an official arcade release date yet, much less console confirmation.

Really looking forward to:

Bioshock Infinite
Dead Space 3
Devil's Third
Resident Evil 6
Zone of the Enders 3 (YESSSSS)
Project Zwei (Mikami's survival horror game)
Metal Gear Rising
DmC
ZoE collection

And also gonna keep an eye on these:
Killer Is Dead (last 2 Suda games were disappointing... but will still give this one a chance)
New HD Persona game (I heard that somewhere... just can't remember)
New HD Contra game (remember that announcement from E3? Yeah, nothing to see but it's Contra so I'll keep an eye out)
Doom 3 BFG

Too bad only RE6 and ZoE collection are actually coming out this year. Ugh. Makes me desperate enough to look at games like Doom 3 BFG . Good I still have a stack of PS2 games to play. Totally loving Silent Hill 3 right now on my PS2 :D. Nurse just pulled a gun on me OMFG.

It's quite likely that their dire financial reports and the moribund Japanese 360 market have caused them to enter into a period of transitioning away from the arcade and console markets, and scaling back to become a mobile/social-only developer. The PS3 is not a viable option due to Sony's aspect ratio restrictions, and the already poor sales of G.Rev's PS3 ports. I don't think the recent NESiCA release of Akai Katana Shin is necessarily indicative of future arcade games or ports, it may have simply been an easy option for a "we need money, and fast" scheme. Just like the addition of pay-to-win DLC to their iOS ports.

I wouldn't get my hopes up, with those bastards. Wii had less third party support than the N64!
Also, with it only being as powerful as current systems, most folks won't be wanting to make games for it.

I keep hearing about Nintendo's third party support...well, that didn't stop the N64 from being a great console with no shortage of great games (granted, I was starting with the PSX, so it might have been a shock to people coming off the SNES / Genesis, but it was much better than any CD addon or also-ran 3D console like the Jaguar). The GameCube had me feeling disappointed in its library, but then Killer7 and RE4 came out. I still haven't done more than scratch that system's library. The only thing keeping me away from the Wii (apart from spending money) is the controller. Not too excited about Kinect especially given what I've heard about it. The trends don't really matter much to me, so long as they don't carry. I haven't done a lot of research on this yet, but Capcom promises some good titles for the Wii U. I'm kind of ambivalent about the NFC stuff and the controller, but I'll give it a chance. I'd prefer a system that's got an old-fashioned wired controller, however.

I understand that if you own a GameCube, Wii doesn't sound like all that hot deal, but really, the controller? There's quite a few games where it works just fine. All gun games aside, S&P2 and Excite Truck are exquisite, Metroid: Other M is very decent (lack of thumbstick support doesn't make sense, but it's not the controller's fault), Red Steel 2 and Battalion Wars II are okay and last but not least, the D-pad doesn't suck.
At the end of the day it all boils down to Excite Truck. Even if you are not into car games, heck, maybe even moreso if you are not into those. The game's just too cool, especially if you need to put the Mario Kart Wii wheel to use.
Oh yes, Classic Controller Pro makes the internet dudes who are too cool for the PlayStation joypads make funny faces. If only more games made a worthwhile use of it... Such a fine controller and not a single metroidvania? Not a single DMC-style slasher? Sheesh... That of all their last-gen action games Capcom had chosen only Residents and Monster Hunter to rehash on the Wii is such a waste.

Thanks for the info. French Bread/Ecole have stated that they're shooting for a September arcade release for UNIB, but it may be held up by issues with the voice actors' talent agency (which is why all the videos so far have been voiceless). They also want to give it a home port, probably just PS3, down the road.

I'm just hoping that Dishonoured turns out to be everything it promises, and the new NFS learns from Paradise's mistakes, that would be me happy for the foreseeable. And if Thief 4 wants to make an appearance this gen I wouldn't say no.

Games with the word "guardian" in name are usually good (The Guardian Legend and Guardian Force come to mind), so maybe at least the name will be of some use for somebody out there.
Can't say I'm very disappointed, though. My expectations of SotC couldn't have been higher after Ico, but the game didn't quite deliver. Still, I'm sorry for the PS3 owners.

This gen's almost over...what's left?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I had a thread talking about this, and I was going to just update it....but the AMAZING search engine at SHMUPS couldn't seem to find it, within the first 15 pages of a search, so I decided to just start a new one. I'm sure a mod will pop up and go "HERE IT IS! IT TOOK 10 SECONDS TO FIND!". But oh well.

This gen has depressed me a lot, especially since I'm mainly all about Japanese games. But there are a few things coming up, and few things that I had mentioned that have come out, that I'll discuss. And guys, just add in what you are looking forward to, and what might be some good stuff here in the end. I'm guessing 2013 will kind of be the last full blown year for game releases for our current systems, with some games trickling out in 2014.

OK, here's some games that I had mentioned, and here's the verdict:

Out Now

Max Anarchy/Anarchy Reigns- Coming out in the U.S. REALLY soon. I had the JP version since summer. It's not up to par with Bayonetta or Vanquish. But it's problems all stem from it being made for multi-player, with not much effort put into single. It's good fun for multi though. 30 bucks is a good price, and I would snag it, if you have online. It's just not anything that's going to be like "WOW!". But it's a decent experiment.

Resident Evil 6- Some people like it, most don't. I don't, and that's all I have to say about it. Capcom's on a real losing streak lately. Sad to see this series sink so low. :( That being said, I would really be interested if they could improve on Dragon's Dogma.

Coming Soon(ish)

Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch- So far the reviews have been great, and the demo was pretty damn cool. Won't know more about it, until more respectable reviewers get their hands on it. Definitely a possible highlight for this year, and maybe this gen. Let's hope so anyway. Level 5 are capable of great things, but they can make some lackluster stuff too.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance- I've been pretty psyched about this, since I heard Platinum was involved(and knowing that Konami was writing the story was a big plus). After playing the demo...still very excited. Looks like it could be a blast. I'm most excited for this game.

Metal Gear Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain- Not sure if this is one game or two. Or if they are just MGS 5. Doesn't matter... Looks to me like it's Peace Walker on steroids. If Kojima can deliver an open world PW, on steroids, designed for home systems...I can't see how this can be anything less than awesome. He said he wants to focus on gameplay. I know that's kind of hard to believe, but since he did in it PW, I'll give him the benefit. Pretty interested in this one.

Puppeteer- This game is kind of a mystery. It looks interesting, to say the least. Could be a sleeper. Side scrolling platformer, in the vein of Dynamite Heady. Tim Burton style graphics, made by Sony, with good production values. Supposed to be long too. I would be more excited, if they have shown more than 3 vids of it.

Maybe this gen games

The Last Guardian- Almost a joke at this point, but they SWEAR it's coming out for this gen. If it does, it should be good. I just don't know when the hell it's coming out. But Sony seem like they're hell bent on not making this vapor ware. We'll see.

Devil's Third- Itagaki's game. I'm kind of leaning that this isn't going to make this gen. We just haven't seen hide nor hair of this in ages. I HOPE it comes out though.

Mikami's Survival Horror game- I would be hugely psyched for this, but I'm not sure if it's this gen. If it's next gen, I may not play it for YEARS. But let's hope for the best. It would be nice for the master to come back and show people how it's done.

Dark Souls II- Not sure if it's this gen, but my hype is gone due to Miyazaki not directing.

I had mentioned ZOE 3, but I'm pretty convinced that's not this gen at all.

That's what I got, that I'm interested in. You?

The Last of Us - looking really good and atmospheric (coming from uncharted's dev doesn't lower expectations either).

Beyond:Two Souls - Quantic Dreams earned my respect with the awesome Heavy Rain, and if this comes even close I'll love it. :)

Just played the demo of Ni No Kuni. I was assuming day one buy, but might wait on it as the gameplay felt a bit on the awkward side and the story uninspiring. Obviously just a demo, so I'm reserving judgment, and it is the sort of game I might pick up regardless, but it definitely took my expectations down a notch.

I'm really looking forward to Tomb Raider. That game has been ridiculously high on my radar since it's first reveal. This spring is also bringing Bioshock Infinite, which I have interest in only because of 1999 mode (I hate the Bioshock franchise)., DMC: Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Rising.

You know, this year has started out well. I have enjoyed Ni No Kuni thus far, and really enjoyed MGR. They both had their issues. Ni No Kuni's a little too easy, and has some simpleness to it, and MGR I think is too short, and the difficulty balance is never "just right", due to all the nano pastes.

But both were very good. And not in a "it'll do" kind of way either. I think they were both pretty memorable.

I wonder when the heck they're going to release some info on Puppeteer. That's supposed to come out sometime soon....but I wouldn't doubt they might hold off until Halloween or something stupid like that.
Anyone else interested in that one?

It just didn't click for me, like it does for a lot of their other games. It seems kind of sloppy.

360: Radiant Silvergun, Virtua Fighter, Bayonetta, RE5 co-op, SEGA Rally, Resonance of Fate, Tales of Vesperia, oh, and some Cave games... have you been living in one? ;)

Wii: Skyward Sword, Xenoblade Chronicles, Rune Factory Frontier, Sin & Punishment. I had a soft spot for Trauma Center as well, quite a unique genre. Plenty of excellent arcade light-gun games on this system as well, all JPN made.

DS: Castlevania, Covenant of the Plume, and about 15 other similar titles. Ace Attorney series as well of course, again, unique Japanese genre pioneering.

PS3: Hmm, this is where it gets tricky. Final Fantasy went multi-plat this gen, so that's a huge shift. If you're being really fussy, you could say they work better on there. I personally enjoyed them on Xbox. That leaves... SEGA's Valkyria Chronicles and now right at the end, the Ghibli game.

If you like Japanese fighting games, watch out for the upcoming Vampire Savior port. All these type of games play better over Live, so basically yeah, another nice JP title on 360 this gen.
