All are great shmups, but I choose the DOJ, good gameplay, graphics, music and story.

"DoDonpachi daifukkatsu Black Label Auto bomb Off"
DFKBL take out the auto bombs and bullet cancel from 1.5 making the things harder.

I've only been able to appreciate DDP when I started putting some other music on top of itdunpeal2064 wrote:I just wish the music in DDP didn't repeat half way through. I know it has nothing to do with the structure/scoring of the game, but it always disappointed me, since those first 3 songs are pretty nice.

Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
It's DOJ.
No bullet cancelling, pretty graphics, excellent soundtrack. The only bad thing is no visible hitbox.
Why the hell did cave even start the bullet cancel-mess?
Saidaioujou seems to fix that problem though.

Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
DOJBL is the only Pachi (and enemy chaining game) I've ever liked enough to put effort into, but I haven't started on DFK yet. I don't think I'll ever care for DDP or DP because hypers made the game system a lot more interesting.
Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
I'll say DFK 1.5 as it looks like it needs some help, and the chaining is actually enjoyable this time round.
DOJ was a bit too strict for me to enjoy for score, and remains the only CAVE shooter I'd only ever bother playing for survival only. The PS2 port was my first CAVE import, so it has some nostalgia going for it here, but as a shooter I can enjoy on all levels, my vote goes to 1.5.
DFK BL is an awesome alternative, and Ketsui is freakin' hardcore. Maybe you should have added Ketsuipachi?

I like DOJBL the most, too. Art style, pacing, bullet patterns, flexibility of hypers, music. Like many others I remember the cinematic feeling of getting to the st3 midboss the first time as the music hits just the right note. I actually like the chaining in this game too, although I stopped learning it after st2. Will go back eventually...
Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
I voted for DFK 1.5.
Not.

DFK 1.5
The soundtrack is garbage (I die laughing @ the stage 4 midboss transition)
But it reminds me of Mars Matrix on rails.
DOJ was cool when I started playing shmups, but I think all three of the PGM games are ugly and have boring scoring systems. The ships look ugly as hell too.
prepared for flaming.

Voted DFK BL ...but I also love DOJ.
Had I played DDP in it's time, I'm sure I would have quite a bit of affection for it.

DFK BL obviously, mainly on the basis that it's not really a DDP game.
In order:
DFKBL
DP
DOJ/BL
DFK 1.5
DDP
DDP2
But even DDP 2 is pretty awesome.

Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
Obviously. It basically fixes every problem anyone could have with the series. No more bullshit chaining (who enjoys that shit?), no more bomb hoarding bonus, and best of all no more fucking loop. It even adds in a nice emphasis on bullet cancelling to make it more inline with Cave's other awesome and it has that nice "pick your difficulty" thing as well. But really it shouldn't be any surprise that it ain't winning by a huge margin like it should. This is shmups forum, where people vote for games based on the graphics and music.MX7 wrote:DFK BL obviously, mainly on the basis that it's not really a DDP game.
Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
Playing DFKBL for score is more boring than chaining in any DDP though.

People who enjoy scoring and getting better at these games more than watching pretty bullets get cancelled I guess. Sounds to me like someone isn't going full shmup here.Gus wrote:No more bullshit chaining (who enjoys that shit?)

Re: Poll: Which Donpachi is your favorite?
Chaining in DFK is about as painless as it could be, since the game tends to throw tons of popcorn at you, leaving only a few spots per level where you really have to stagger instead of just shooting forward while not getting hit. Honestly I find the bullet cancel phases more stressful, but maybe that just comes from playing Red. Plus it's just really hype when you start to cash out and your score goes up super fast.
On the other hand, I hate Stage 1 and Strong style and most of the music, but those things aren't enough to make me vote for BL instead (especially with the music settings on the port).

I tried playing Hellsinker for score and I come back to it at least every week... not that I get good scores.... my max score is only 15.000 spirits. And I still hate Dragon Blaze scoring...Zaarock wrote:Try playing Hellsinker for score, I'm sure you'll like just about anything else afterwards (yes, dimahoo)GradiusuiraD wrote:

recently, i've got an interest on token scoring since it seems that nobody cares about it...
On Topic: DOJ just wins over every other title of the series almost on everything.
PD: So few people voting for Donpachi even with that announcer... "Keep your finger on the trigger Rookie!"
