Thank goodness that 0.145u5 is out in MAMEUI for the less proficient of us :D
But why do I get "ddp2_IGS0127a_japan.bin missing" error?
I've got latest DDP2 and PGM zips????
Do I need another zip in there somewhere?

You don't have the latest ddp2.zip or it would be in there (just got added).

Found the proper roms, got the game running, is a whole lot more fun than I anticipated.

Correct, it changed in the u5 version that just came out today. The new needed file is a protection data readout.

Note, the parent (v102) allows you to change the arrangement of your 'options' (or whatever you want to call them) by pressing the start1 button during gameplay. Neither of the 2 clone sets (v101, v100) allow that.

It would be interesting if somebody could observe other difference between the sets (most likely just bugfixes, but there's always a chance things got tweaked)

Sucks is a bit much its a decent title last couple stages are hard and i like the graze to get bomb mechanic in energy mode it just isnt worthy of cave association in anyway mainly because it doesnt play like a cave game , yeh its ok though i think a few people will have some fun with it .

One version of Demon Front seems to work fine with the old roms.

You can unzip the roms and then put all of the files into one folder and rezip it as dmnfrnt.

I like both games. DDP2: Bee Storm doesn't play like Cave game, but it's far from horrible. The boss music from Demon Front reminds me of the music in Crank 2: High Voltage. I keep expecting to hear "Fuck you, Chelios!"

The one thing that really pushes this from "mediocre shmup with DDP sprites" into "broken ass territory" is the bomb charge mode. It reduces the difficulty of the later levels to the point where you're able to bomb every several seconds with very little (or no) penalty. I can imagine trying to play it w/o bomb mode would feel like a giant clusterfuck, though. I hardly had enough firepower to kill everything on the screen even with the laser bombs. Which was it balanced around? We'll likely never know. But it really makes the game feel unbalanced.

Also fuck all those bosses with instakill laser attacks. :p

that is how you score, hit counter skyrockets while bombing and because enemy HP is so unbalanced some enemies take alot of punishment even from a bomb.
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

Bee Storm is awesome! The music is pretty damn cool too.

Demon Front is alright. Not as hard as the Metal Slug series. I think that's a good thing :)

Bee storm is a fun break from the normal cave fest.

Enemies have way too much HP though what in the hell.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, it seems to have been largely stolen from Amiga .MOD artists, with slight changes made.

Even if doing so wasn't how you score, it still comes close to trivializing survival for even a decent player. Tap dodge from one corner of the screen until you have bomb, bomb while moving the other side, repeat. Yeah there's a few places this doesn't work, but they're so far apart that it doesn't matter that much.

And what the hell is up with those goofy dancing robots that have a short range bullet attack and take a metric fuckload of damage? It is such an incomprehensibly dumb idea that I can't even wrap my head around it. I'm glad that's the first and last time I've ever encountered something like that in a shmup.

No, it just goes from really anal chaining to trivial retarded chaining instead.

I'm a bit disappointed by the first 3 stages. There's no challenge, patterzns are too easy and bosses have too much HP. Still didn't get how to score exactly but it looks like more fun than DDP was.
