[quote="neorichieb1971"Infamous is very very under rated and missed by quite a few. I don't even like the genre but found my way loving the platforming, climbing and blowing shit up. Its like Spiderman in 3D [/quote]
Agreed - I do like the "3rd person action" genre, but haven't been nearly as interested in it of late. However, I've played inFAMOUS at 2 kiosks (still no PS3 for me) and it's the game that is slowly selling me on the idea of spending so much money on a PS3
What are the thoughts on MGS4? I know it is going for $20 at this point.

It never gripped me, I sold it within 5 hours of first playing it.
I much prefer the older ones with corridors, cameras and scopes. In MGS4 you can hide behind a trash can with your body half visible to the enemy and they still walk past like baffoons. That totally killed it for me. I could see the production values though, which were top notch. About $5 million was spent on the introduction before the game even starts.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
No mention of PSN games? I really loved the demo of Crystal Defenders, it's a tower defense game with characters from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I'm gonna buy it soon.

I mentioned quite a few PSN games. I probably spend more time playing downloadable games than retail ones. Have to say, I really didn't think much of the Crystal Defenders demo though - seemed like I'd gone for about half an hour without needing any kind of meaningful strategy or been given any kind of real challenge. Maybe it gets better in the full game.
Another one I've been playing recently is Greed Corp which is a pretty neat little strategy game. The single player campaign is a decent length, but sadly there aren't many people playing online. The only person I managed to get a game against was the top ranked player on the leaderboard. I didn't fare very well...

i dunno about the controls but the game was kinda lame.....just like 2004 with slightly better graphics....
didnt put too much time into it though....but playing a couple maps it was almost exactly like 2004....the maps even seemed familiar
UT2004 with better graphics sounds great - I was scared off because everything I heard about it was that they cut a ton of features out. Also, I'm not sure I'd agree the graphics are better - UT has always looked pretty assy, adding more polys and better lighting while reducing the colours isn't a great improvement. I think they should have done something more stylised like TF2 - suits the gameplay better, and is less of a burden when adding interesting new mechanics.

but that would remove the twitch element of the game. Consoles have been tearing away at quake style twitch gameplay for a long time as it's just not possible on a controller. so I'd hate to see a great franchise like UT head down that road as well with the likes of the team fortress series.
Went to my friend's house today and played some PS3. I liked the system quite a bit, but it might be because I don't have anything current gen yet (I wouldn't count the Wii as current.) He had God of War 3, Dante's Inferno and the Heavy Rain demo. GoW3 felt familiar, but there's quite a lot of new gameplay mechanics and items to keep you from getting bored, not to mention that there's always something awesome happening around the corner.

If you like Survival Horror, add Siren: New Translation to the list; IMO best in the genre this gen. It sucks compared to the original, but since this genre isn't really exploited enough this gen we hafta lower standards don't we?

And don't give up if the first episode feels mediocre, it gets so much better (and claustrophobic) in the later episodes (especially Bella in the hospital and the Ito residence, that's some creepy and scary shit!) I really have to try the original then, if this "sucks in comparison"
Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

Too bad it doesn't look so challenging. I bet my daughter would like it, though. Maybe I should get it.
Oh, the demo itself isn't that challenging (it'll take you a few tries to get a perfect score though), but I bet it gets tough later on, just like every tower defense game. You only get to see 20 waves, it isn't enough to see how hard it gets.
Don't forget there are also 3 different modes, the last one made especifically to be a challenge.

The production values of the original are nowhere near the New Translation's ones and the controls "take a bit of getting used to" but the characters are that much more interesting and fleshed out, it isn't even funny. Also, there's a ton more archive-interactions to be done not to mention that the Link Navigator was a very interesting way to tell the story and select missions/search for dependencies, it still puzzles me that they just scrapped that and created the game's pacing with simple episodes... I guess it was too complicated for some.
MGS4 has little to no codec screens that are actually needed. The cutscenes are amazing but people who call MGS4 a movie clearly haven't played MGS2-3. I'd definately reccomend it though. My only complaint was that it was too easy, and too short. The new gameplay mechanics are amazing but a lot of the time, you won't need them and you can get through most of the game without doing anything special. MGS3 is still my favourite.
Demon's souls is a good choice.
Also uncharted 1 and 2 if you're in the mood for some "male tomb raider imitation that's clearly better than the source material"
As for shmups...PS3 has no shmups
I like how both PS3 WipeoutHD & WipeoutHD Fury have support for Dolby Digital 5.1 support. Sounds awesome with a thumping bass woofer in the background. Really gets you into the futuristic world of anti-gravity racing at it's best. Considering that it is revamped with arcade-spec framerate of 60fps and running at 1080p, it sure shows what the PS3 can do given at the hands of a talented 1st-party developer such as SCEE.
It is possible to dress up your PS3's wallpaper/overall theme with WOHD type of wallpapers/themes for that futuristic flavor/vibe. Check 'em out on the USA/JPN/Euro PSN sites + it's all free for the taking.
About the PSN. I just created a Japanese account in order to be able to download those jap PS1 shooters available there (mostly Shienryu and Einhander).
I have a PAL PS3 slim system though, do you know if those games will run on it ?

I don't have a slim, but I can confirm that they work on a PAL PS3 60gb. AFAIK the region-coding is only on the discs, which leaves only the 50/60Hz difference, which in turn is also eliminated because all HD consoles are capable of both anyways.

Very cool !
So any recommendations for the shooters (or other good games) available on that PSN jap that are worth downlaoding ?
I browsed the store a little but since I dont get a word of japanese, I fear I might have missed some.
