They have made cellphone games in the past, they're just upping it to something which was American made.Exarion wrote:now that the initial shock is over, maybe this is just part of cave's master plan. Think: something simple comes out like this and has a few minor relations to cave's games. then later, something else comes out, more similar, repeat a few times, and cave can now get their other shooters to be released in the US. Or they're just trying to get something out here in a desperate attempt to get a distributor to notice them, so they can combine that with the futari data and get a US release. In any case, they've shown interest in the US market.

Another non-Cave game bumped out of the top 25. Looks as good as the first Mushihimesama.

It's better than The Monkey King, but then so is being beaten senseless with a spiked baseball bat.

Cave should make an educational children's show where Reco and Palm go around the world explaining various kinds of anthropods and reptiles, and use that song as the show's intro.

Do all games have to be shmups to be good or fun?

Same here. I don't get why everyone seems to be so angry at Cave for making something different. The game looks perfectly fine for what it is. I always hoped for Chibi Reco from the loading screen of Mushihimesama PS2 to show up in a game.Necronopticous wrote:It looks cute and fun to me.

Faux dual analog on a glass screen, yuck. If they put it on psn or xbla I might give it a try.

Re: Mushihimesama Gaiden: Bug Panic (iPhone)
I admit it's a savage disappointment it isn't really any kind of Cave shmup, but it might work as an iPhone game (let's face it, a direct or cut down port of any of Cave's shooters wouldn't ). Going for a something unlike any typical Cave release was the best it could do considering the platform.
I'm prepared not to make my mind up before release. Sure, it might well be bad, but some games loosley based on shmups work amazingly on the platform. MiniSquadron for example.

It's really starting to grow on me.
If the song being on constant loop in my head is any indication that is.

Re: Mushihimesama Gaiden: Bug Panic (iPhone)
A part from the poor SFX and the music (cute but annoying), it seems it could be a decent game.
Re: Mushihimesama Gaiden: Bug Panic (iPhone)
I agree, I think people are missing the point - its a phone game, not an arcade release. If people had played Cave's previous phone games then perhaps they wouldn't be so quick to not take it at face value for what it is. Granted the iphone is more capable than your standard phone but its still a phone, not to mention a new platform for Cave.Herr Schatten wrote:Same here. New Cave iphone game announced - Mushihimesama Bug Panic
Well, it was officially announced today. I'm guessing they've overhauled it slightly as they're using none of the old footage in their new teaser vid. Looks like a puzzle shmup?

This is a bug-busting fever-hitting ACTION game!
Some may be familiar with the game via previews of
early builds last year, and BUG PANIC is a powered-up
version of what we showed before.

Doesn't sound like it's still gonna be an arenaSTG after that promo.
1 vote for calling it a run 'n gun and moving it to off topic.

I can't speculate, but Cave basically said to ignore the "early build" footage.DJ Incompetent wrote:Doesn't sound like it's still gonna be an arenaSTG after that promo.

I'm guessing its gonna suck whatever it is though.
And the Mushi icons we kept seeing in the blog - this tripe.
Re: Mushihimesama Gaiden: Bug Panic (iPhone)
Called into work sick, couldn't handle the disappointment. I think I'll get a Droid now, assuming I make it through this.

Really sucks it'll be the first Cave title that does.

It's pretty much universally agreed that Deathsmiles II sucks also. So if you agree with that, Cave has been on a quality slide as of late. But I happen to like it, even though I feel like the only one sometimes.Skykid wrote:I'll reserve judgement until I sit down with it properly. I don't think it's a stretch to think we'll be playing a cave character puyo puyo clone on a phone near you soon.
Re: Mushihimesama Gaiden: Bug Panic (iPhone)
Nah, Deathsmiles 2 doesn't suck. It might not be the best Cave game, but then neither was the original, and everyone loved that.PsychoGun wrote:

Ah c'man looks fun. Here's to hoping there will be some giant boss fights and some variety in the bombs. I'm glad they're willing to take risks and mix it up once and a while. The insane music just makes it weirder and strangely more appealing to me.
DDPR and EG2 for iphone, are pretty damn good for pocket size shooters- not to mention mega affordable-- good gateway drug for making Cave more accessible in North America. Wish they would develop for ps3!

I see the team behind this didn't spend the last 9 months improving their choice of music for the promotional material.
Re: Mushihimesama Gaiden: Bug Panic (iPhone)
Have you played it yet? I am still excited for that one. Everyone hated on DFK BIGTIME when it 1st came out. Earlier this week I stumbled onto that old thread and read the early impressions and reactions to it when it 1st came out. Man, everyone was ruthless... now that it's coming out a few years later and everyone is excited. Even for the i phone version.Akai Katana kind of sucks too.
Getting back to the matter at hand, I am so excited for this new Mushi on i phone...... I'm as excited for this as I was when I 1st saw Deathsmiles 2.
It does kinda suck... to me anyways.Nah, Deathsmiles 2 doesn't suck.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
