I play with a Dual Shock and I think it's perfect (and I nearly never miss shoryuken with it). Many very good players in western tournaments play with them as well... There is no need for an arcade stick, again. I used to play with a keyboard and it was totally fine as well, except for half circle / circle inputs. Actually I liked it even better than the pad.E. Finding the PS2 controller a bitch though.

im surprised no ones asked what controller your using, always look for a controller with a D pad thats easy on the thumb and precise with its input

Yeah, but if you've got to put up with a less-than perfect controller, you're going to become decent with it eventually. The segmented d-pad* on all Playstation controllers is far from ideal for any game that requires diagonals and if you're just starting out playing such a game, then it's going to present even more of a handicap.PROMETHEUS wrote: I play with a Dual Shock and I think it's perfect (and I nearly never miss shoryuken with it).
*I know, I know... SNES pad. But you know what? My first experience of a Nintendo controller (beyond G&W) came a few years after I'd grown used to the Megadrive pads - the 6 button, especially - and anything less than a full disc has always felt inferior, to my hands.
Ugh, I can't do shit with the analog...I find the d-pad much better, regardless of having diagonals or not.mr_m0nks wrote:I've been working with the analog joystick tbh, i just cant get a good response from the d-pad
I can play just as fine with a keyboard too, but playing as Zangief and pulling off those 360 inputs are pretty much impossible (nevermind double 360s...lol). Although for some reason, a 270 input is enough to make Zangief do his grab move.PROMETHEUS wrote:I used to play with a keyboard and it was totally fine as well, except for half circle / circle inputs.
Well I just had a go on my hori VF4 stick, not ideal due to the lack of buttons, found SRK a bit easier but my accuracy with HDK's has suffered and i cannot do the super for shit :S
might get myself a six button arcade stick, or SF for my Dreamcast. (is there a good version for DC?)
before then I'm just going to practice.

I still dont get to this day why people bang on about how great the PS2 pad is. It was not that hot now and its not that hot then. I have to say its sticks all the way but if you cant have one for size or even cost you would not go too far wrong with a PS2 Saturn pad. Thats a whole other thread though
please tell me how you get on with the training. I pulled it off every other time when i first started playing for real. I praticed again and again until i could pull off the move on command. Its usefeull to have some one shout moves at you too so you can learn to mix it up.

I can do diagonals in a PS2 controler just fine when I play Melty Blood. It is murder on the thumb if you do it a lot, though, due to the shape of it.E. Randy Dupre wrote:There's your problem.
