I assume John845's argument can also be extended to "stay alive by not dying".

Which is not exactly an easy thing to do when you are not in complete control of your health. Hint: you are never in complete control. You have to trust the world to not fuck you up with accidents, viral infections, and mutations. Or, you can get some of them out of the picture by preemptive vaccination.

I wonder how Japanese dentists are. The dentists I've all met are some of the weirdest people ever.

Seriously, how bad can Japanese docs be? I remember you lamenting about Japanese dental health care, no?
They're worse than the dentists. Let's see...
-A common cold will get you 7 kinds of medication. Mostly placebo, as the doctor sells you the meds, not the pharmacist.
-A good mate of mine was treated for exhaustion, but somehow received meds for kidney failure. Almost killed him.
-I helped a man and his wife to the emergency room when the collapsed. It took them 10 minutes to get her through the ER door b/c the stretcher didn't fit.
-Nurses/Assistants don't have to go to nursing school
-They are all stingy when it comes to anaesthetic.

The general consensus amongst the gaijin community is that if you can self-diagnose the problem, then you can get help from the doctor. You can't go in, describe the symptoms, and come out with the right solution. It just doesn't happen.
I wonder how Japanese dentists are.
They all suck. Takes 4 trips to do a cleaning most of the time, so they can make more money.
