Rest In Peace to all the people who have died playing arcade games.

I'll see you this Friday then mate. Let's put the effort in this week and get a few of us down there - more on that in the Casino Arcade thread anyway.

On topic, I'd say about a third of my playing time is down the arcade, and without exception I score better sitting at a real cab in public, even though, as monks says, at Casino the sticks, cabs, screens and pretty much everything is shoddy. The reason? I think the occasion of being there, and the atmosphere and the feeling of doing it properly just helps somehow.

In other words

I can’t quite explain it, but certainly if you do get a small audience at the arcade that helps too (although I always try and talk to people while I play and get distracted).

The one exception is Raiden III on Double Play at an arcade down the road. Just can’t do it as well at the Arcade (And yes, I play Arcade Difficulty on PS2), perhaps because, despite my comment above, Double Play attracts some unwanted attention at times.

another aspect we haven't talked about yet is that in an arcade every play *costs you money*. psychologically, i think this has an affect on the way people will perform

Clearly spontaneous makeout sessions with all the hot arcade groupies. Tricky to keep your eyes on the screen when that happens, it's such a bother.

I spend more on coffee than credits at the arcade, so maybe I just need a coffee machine at home!

I'm the arcade groupie!

No - you just get very suspicious attention from the staff when you do the special trick to activate the mode, and then people from the scaffolders' laptops (Fruit machines or whatever you call them) coming and staring from one side, rather than behind and out of your view..
