Has anybody even made one before?

I kinda wanna play one.
Actually, I suppose it could be fun...just so long as the proportions and ship speed for a 4:3-ish segment of the screen were right. It would almost have to be a bullet hell shooter, that or perhaps you could have some sort of "save spot" gimmick - hide out inbetween enemy/shot patterns, at the cost of not being able to grab any points.

1942:JS's aspect ratio doesn't bother me at all from watching it, but I'd have to play it myself to really see if would be comfortable with it.
kemical wrote:hmm the music and sound in the videos make the game seem less exciting, none of it really matches any of the onscreen stuff or enhances it.
The music is alright to me. Sort of sounds like a "heroic wartime" score that fits the time period, I think. Well, better fitting than the digital rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat *whistle* rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat *whistle* "music" of the original 1942.

I'll reserve judgment until I can play the demo.
As of right now, it has that sickly hi-res/plastic appearance that I associate with cheap PC/homebrew shooters.

the most specific post i read in this topic was
mmm... brown...
i dont get it, is there at least one gamer in this team who really loved the previous striker games especially the 1945 series.
how comes the result being a greyish muddy ugly uninspiring weapon look, boring enemy and pattern design. oh and wtf a 16:9 hori shmup, I DONT GET IT, am i really expecting to much from the gaming industry?
tststs..

now you could say "hey what do you expect for $10", and i say i dont care, i rather pay $50 for a great one than $50 for five medicore shmups.

you know the strikers games and capcom's 1940 games are not the same series?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

yoko means black(or artwork) borders on both sides

the term you should use is "widescreen horivert" or "16:9 vert scroling" (opposed to 4:3 vert or 9:16 vert)

16:9 yoko vert would mean playing a tate game on a non-rotated 16:9

yes, but for me the stikers 1945 I and II are the best out of the bunch and yes its a capcom deal but still even then the result could have been something much more colorful and fun to watch, something like "hey looks cool i wanna play it", this is just meh.

Confusing the two series has been common among mainstream players for years - so much so, that I wonder if the new devs of this project intentionally included the word "strike" in this one's subtitle hoping to confuse and pick up extra sales from casual Strikers fans. :P

I was not impressed at first by the still pictures, but 1942 JS looks better in motion. For $10, it'll be worth trying anyhow.

Hopefully there will be 3 or more planes to choose from ala 19XX. Having only 2 planes with identical firepower in 1944 was a downer.

Benefit of the doubt given until I try this.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I gotta be honest, watching videos of this makes my head hurt. I mean, seriously, thats not just a figure of speech I'm using.

For some reason seeing a vert in some bizarre widescreen is just... really disorienting to me.

widescreen shooters that are vert don't bother me if that's the way they are made from the start.

no, it means vertically oriented.

"Yoko" essentially translates to "side". (For example, a side kick in karate can be known as a "yoko-geri", and in Yoko mode your screen is on its side.)

Yoko means "wide", or in the case of screen orientation, horizontal.

No. Yoko simply refers to horizontal screen orientation. So this game is a wide-screen yoko vert. It's screen orientation is yoko, but the game scrolls vertically.

I think it looks like it has some promise.

I'm not sure I understand all the hate based on the aspect ration and the fact that it looks to have a muted color palette. We're only seeing a small part of the game.

The trailer on XBL actually looks good. Considering the weapon/plane choices, it looks like it's 19XX set in 1942. Especially considering some of the patterns they previewed.

I didn't. The grabby mechanic was an interesting idea, but the game was an ultimate fail.

Still interested in this. But I've always loved the old 1942 too.

I think it looks ok. Of course High res bitmap graphics would look better(IMO) than that 3D'ish polygon style. also there's too much "mud" in that game. mmhh...

Omg
Maybe I'm easily suggestionable but it looks great to me. No plastic-ish at all (if you want to experience a REAL plastic game you should play Ninja Gaiden II on PS3) and pretty scenographic.
I'm looking forward to this one indeed.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?
