I definitely dont see what's wrong with Mushihime.
But I guess it's not for everyone......
No, where the went wrong was when they stopped porting things, I gotta agree with that one, yep.
I already have all of their ports, so if I wanna play anything ELSE (that isnt on Mame), I gotta buy the damn PCBs......

I would think stopping the ports was "going right" in Caves eyes as they obviously weren't profitable enough.elvis wrote:That was their first mistake. Second was when they stopped doing ports at all.Super Laydock wrote:When they stopped Arika from doing their PS2 ports...
Also the fact that they''re now regularly knocking out two STGs a year for the first time doesn't really suggest they ever "went wrong" unlike the dead companies in the rest of these gay threads.

is where they started going right. In this game, Cave managed to do what every company with mainstream aspirations dreams of doing: it created a fully realised game that took no concessions, that had near infinite depth and could be enjoyed by their hardest of hardcore fans. More importantly however, Cave made this commercialy viable. It's such a simple idea, but making a hardcore shooter and shoving a big titted 16 year old girl on a beetle all over the artwork was pure genius, and similar tactics see their games doing well even today.mushi

Dare I suggest they haven't gone too wrong; at least not relatively to other shump makers. Highs and lows yeah, but that's down to personal opinion and taste in individual games.
I'm not some blind Cave fanboy who can't see their faults, as they've made games I don't like, but I can't really see a trend where things have gone downhill and continued in that direction.
Oh... hang on... apart from the increase in all that pervy Loli porny crap. I hate that and it embarrasses the hell out of me when friend puruse my gaming collection.
So when they stopped concentrating on spaceships and started concentrating on excuses to make hentai merch...

Yeah they never went wrong but Cave do seem to be stuck within a particular mindset for sometime now. Sure different scoring and basic gameplay mechanics add alot of depth and variation among different games, but still, there are more avenues for creativity than just these ones. Take the example of Gradius-5 for example ... so many creative and well implemented boss battles. I would like Cave to try different stuff with level and boss design. Heck I was quite surprised to read this particular part of an old Ikeda interview:

Re: !
Only having played it a few times when in London, I can't say I am any sort of expert on this game. That said, I seriously liked what I did see.glitch wrote:yeah.DEL wrote:What's with all this Pink Sweets hate?!
eretsua and i like to call it "summer carnival '06".
or "recca in toyland".
and it rocks pretty hard.
Especially the score attack mode is seriously addictive.
If I had more access to this game I am pretty sure it could become a favourite of mine.
Graphically it wasn't anything special, but the theme made up for it a bit. It has a really superb soundtrack though.
But as mentioned it's more of a Raizing game, so it figures that people being more into the "tradional" CAVE games are among the most vocal "haters".

Call me naive, but this is the first time I´ve ever heared that pixels can come in shapes other than square (in videogames, at least). Also, the pixels are non-square (height longer than width), so when you include a normal character drawing it grows vertically. So, supposing your character is going to be stretched you first have to make revisions. The fact that it wasn't just "drawing pictures" was work.
Besides - does anyone know a link to some footage of DDP2? I´ve only seen crummy screenshots of this one so far.

In terms of Cave, I think they hit their peak with DDP, ESPR, and Guwange. After that, I see highs and lows. I think they're still doing well, but I haven't been able to play anything since Ibara.

if you were to take a literal triple negative translation, i think it would make more sense to say "it is possible to be on this board and not love cave"unsane wrote:
Translation for the triple-negative cross-eyed: "I mean you can't be on this board and love Cave."
although i think he meant to say that the majority of people on this board love cave ??? fuck, we will never know for sure
