Double Mode - Arcade

11717010 Lev. 6 j^aws

Finally, stage 6! ... Stage 5 boss wasn't too bad; had to waste a few bombs on it though. And got a nice run on Stage 6 on pure adrenaline! 8)

I just realised that I've been knocked off of the arcade mode score board. This means war!

Double Mode - PS2

2,786,660 - stage 2 - Pirate1019

Double Mode is certainly more fun then Solo Mode.

Double Mode - Arcade

2,821,050 - stage 2 - Pirate1019

Whoops. my last score was made on the wrong difficulty. I fixed that though.

Double Mode - Arcade

5,342,040 Lev. 3 spongdangly

I'm not sure if this counts since i binded both players movement to the left analog stick (360 controller) and the 2nd players movement to the right analog stick (so i can move just the one). However both players don't move exactly the same (not sure if it's supposed to be that way or if it's because the game set a different deadzone then the one I made in Joy2Key).

Anyways, I'm sure someone will let me know. If this isn't allowed, how do you guys have your controllers set up?

Nice to know you're playing the superior Double Mode!

I doubt binding the controls, as you have with your controller, would be accepted. The PS2 version lets you setup 2 independent sticks, like the Arcade version (either with a single DS2, using twin analogue sticks; or two different controllers, e.g. 2 arcade sticks).

Both ships have the same movement speeds when I use a DS2 (symmetrical, identical sticks). The Arcade version behaves like this too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdFgj2e4KFs

I haven't tried the PC version, but a controller with symmetry should help (unlike the 360 pad).

Updated.

spongdangley, not sure if I understand you correctly but looks like you can use one stick to control both ships? I think the double mode is supposed to be played with each ship controlled independently with different sticks so I won't be putting your score up...

Yeah, that's fine I didn't think it would be accepted anyways. I just wanted to make sure though. I was using one stick to control both ships.

I'm using a ps2 type pad now so maybe I'll reinstall this and have another go at it. Although this will probably have to wait until STGT 2008 finishes.

Well - While I got this a while back I only really tucked into the past couple of weeks, and despite efforts my hi score is still from the end of my first session! Then tonight I tried Double Mode, and surprised myself by getting to level three on my third try.

Updated.
Arcade solo extended to 25 entries.
Changed the format of the table just a little, took out "Lev", thought it was a little unnecessary  .

Been playing a bit here and there since I got this a couple weeks ago. Finally beat the stage 3 boss this morning but lost my last ship fairly quickly on stage 4. My score seriously fails to impress but im posting for motivational purposes. :D

Knew I'd see you here!

Just point blank everything you can and your score will increase after a couple of tries. And watch the replays that come on the game disc...

I have a new double play score to submit from two days ago - but I'm away from home. I'll be back...

Watching the replays i dont really get something. Why is he/she taking their time so much with the stage 2 and 3 bosses. Sometimes just dodging bullets and not even firing. I dont really see how that could be increasing their score...

I think it has something to do with killing all the little broodlings that come out; maybe killing all of those has a greater score value than the multiplier bonus for destroying the boss quickly.

Well - just went and tried a credit of Double Play during a visit to the arcade with SkyKid, and made a bit of a tit of myself, but then came home to do this...

Double Play - PS2

5,328,560 3 spadgy

So glad as a couple of days ago I hit a score painfully close behind 4th place!

EDIT: Just noticed - my PS2 solo mode score seems to be on the 'Arcade' table. As I played it on PS2, shouldn't it be in 'Normal'?

I got to the level three boss without loosing a life, and then just panic bombed like an idiot!

Also - Edit the level to the correct one on my previous post, even though it won't be submitted now

Hey spadgy. The 3rd boss ship thing gives me difficulty too, esp those long strings of bullets coming out in 3 columns. Sorta gotta tap around.
I loaded up my game to look at the difficulty settings and you're right. Judging from your screen shots it is at normal difficulty - the four bars.
That also means your double mode scores are in normal difficulty... but the table we have here is for arcade difficulty (five bars) :(. I could create another table...?

No no! I'll have to go back and change the settings!

I want to get on that table properly! Gutted to learn my mistake, but pleased to have a new challenge ahead of me.

Being new to the game - I'm still to learn the intricacies! Maybe it's worth highlighting the fact you need to adjust double play from defaults in the details at the first post? Not my place to say what to do though :)

I hit somewhere above 4 mill in public on the Raiden III cab in a local arcade, on my first visit to play it on a real cab, so I'm sure I can climb the Arcade score table!

Actually though, Maybe a Normal Double Play Mode table here might encourage some more players to pick up double play?

Thanks for running this thread themachinist!

No problem ;). I edited the info section with a few more points. I'll add a Double Mode -Normal difficulty table if more scores pop up.

I feel so much better having got this last night on ARCADE difficulty setting!!!

Back on the table!

Double Play - PS2 (Arcade Difficulty  )

Stayed calm in the level 3 boss and downed the horrible thing.

Not sure what changes when upping the difficulty, as everything appeared the same, but something did feel different...

EDIT: Tidied up some formatting!

Cool deal Spadgy!

Yeah, after i made that post i went and played some more and i think in Arcade the bosses bullet patterns change faster...i think. Everything else seems the same though. *shrug*

Nice one spadg. I'm actually getting back into this after a loong hiatus. But, after having played a lot of other stuff with bigger and more visible bullets (like cave stuff) and faster player-ships RIII is a little difficult to play  , with the small bullets sort of blending in with the other yellow explosions and the slug's pace of a ship. Oh well. I did get a hrap during that time. I've been usin that so after a while getting accustomed to it maybe I'll be getting some better Solo results. I really want that solo 1cc!
