Awesome - thanks Maco.

I'm so so close to nailing that level three boss...

Missed this the first time around, but I'd say Raiden III Double Mode is already built from the ground up, not only for its scoring system (speed-killing works well with 2 ships combining together for example); nor only for its weapon system (mixing and matching primary and secondary weapons, and a tertiary weapon determined by proximity effect from primary weapons); but also level design, and specifically the example you mention: The end of stage 6 is pretty close to your description (rotating tower section)... You get a 1-up instead of a door opening...

this sucks!

i nearly got it to work w/ only one pad:

left analogsick & shoulderbuttons for the red ship - right analogsick & shoulderbuttons for the blue one...

but the right stick doesn't move the blue ship for-/backwards only to the left/right!

(of cause i calibated the pad in the xp-options w/ no problem) what can i do?
I don't have the PC version but have you tried Xpadder or Joy2key? They're basically programs that let you map keyboard inputs and then map those inputs to your controller; in your case, to the 2 analogue thumbsticks...?

Not sure if this will incur some form of lag though...

uhm... i already stopped messing with it:

i got this kind of setup (1 controller w/ 2 thumbsticks for 2 ships) to work with Nebulas Ray in Mame and everything worked flawlessly (split scores for both ships though...)

the only problem is that it's much too overwhelming for my mind (it was actually horrors) - so no more dual-plays for me :?

but thanx for the advice anyways :)

^^ Alternatively: Take the red pill for the red ship and the blue pill for the blue ship; works wonders!

I found the experience akin to learning to ride a bike...

My comments on Dual Play / Double Play here (sorry hasn't been updated in awhile). If you want to try another fantastic shmup in dual play, try Dogyun, with its unique function of docking and undocking both ships, I swear it was made for this style of play.

Which other Raidens work well with Double Play? I hear they all have a nice Double Play leaning, but do any share RIII's actual bias towards Double Play?

I don't think any of the earlier raidens have the double play (shared lives, bombs, score) but I think the new Raiden IV does.

Ah - I'd always heard 'most Raiden games are good for Double Play', but I guess that's playing two player (Dual Play) instead of with a set Double Play mode... shame.

Right - another question about the arcade PCB and Double Play. I noticed that on the cab in a local arcade, when I finish the Double Play game the high score table is full of some really high scores. Then I noticed that those scores show people have got scores like 5.3 million at level 5. I get to that point at about the level 3 boss on Double Play. Then I noticed the hi score board you see after finishing a Double Play credit says Dual Play, and on the Raiden III DVD the Double Player has 'DP' by his score.

So here's my question - Do Double Play scores attained on the PCB have to share space with Dual Play scores on the same hi-score board?
