I'd go a step further and say public schools are a waste of tax dollars.

This is hillarious given Acid King's citationg of an article showing how teaching sex ed to kids reduces teen pregnancy (statistics I'd also heard in college.) Since for some reason everyone feels the need to be 'serious' all of a sudden, I'll also report that I've seen the same thing (especially in the inner-city), all the way down to 7th grade. Them kids be breeding like rabbits! So, it isn't an issue of stopping the fucking. The fucking will happen. But stopping them from having kids they can't even support themselves (and all issues that ensure that will get me branded a republican or worse if I bring up) IS something we can at least reduce. And that IS worth doing, and surely not a waste of tax payers dollars.shinsage wrote:People should watch that Penn & Teller episode and see that teaching abstinence is a really, really stupid way to waste govt money for schools.
I haven't actually seen the pen and teller episode you speak of, but I guarentee, stoping the creation of new, disposable lives that the parents can't support will SAVE tax payers dollars.
The public school system is an ogre. Everyone knows it is broken. Nobody wants to do what would be necessary to fix it. All they know is they can't stop feeding it, can't just bring it to an end because their minds run wild imagining the consequences. I don't think you want to imagine these consequences.JoshF wrote: I'd go a step further and say public schools are a waste of tax dollars.
But if you are brave, yes, go ahead, set the ogre loose. See what happens in this country if you get rid of public education. It should, if nothing else, prove entertaining!

If you would keep your kids far away from other people in this world this might actually workPixel_Outlaw wrote:Well in a way it is. Parents should be telling kids about sex not flaky first year teachers. They don't tell them not to do it at a young age and there is the problem. Highschool is a different matter, but young middleschool kids really should be told not to have sex. Playing with condoms just gives them a sense of curiosity. A 12 year old really has no business learning how to use condoms. When they are old enough the can be presented with their options. Their parents should also have had a strong voice prior.

And then there isn't such a thing as learning stuff too soon creating a problem.
There is only learning stuff too late having to deal with a problem.
All errors are intentional but mistakes could have been made.
Teaching abstinence in school is as stupid as DARE. If you read the article...CMoon wrote:

"The scientific findings indicate that abstinence promotion, in itself, is insufficient to help adolescents prevent unintended pregnancies"
"Data from the report... suggest that the United States is following patterns seen in other developed countries where increased availability and increased use of modern contraceptives have been primarily responsible for declines in teenage pregnancy rates."
More of an endorsement of contraceptive use, not sex education/abstinence programs. The study is exactly in line with what Shin said.

To be honest I've never seen a public school, only chains of Channe1-Coca-Subway that happen to teach things to kids. And stop taking everything I say seriously. I thought everyone knew I was the resident commie. But if you are brave, yes, go ahead, set the ogre loose. See what happens in this country if you get rid of public education. The rights position is sort of a mobius strip. They don't want abstinence/sexual responsibility or whatever you want to call it taught in school, but you know they know that just means more abortions.

Besides, I'd be surprised if Fighter17 being 17 are financially stable enough to support a meaningful long-term relationship anyway, but I suppose dating means something else to guys your age. I'm not much older but it's about time I stop thinking about kiddy play. And Hell, I'm still in school too, gotta pay tuition and crap. Got nothing to show for what I've accomplished in life, and I don't think "potential" is enough anymore. Don't even know if I have that either.

wrong, this is the prime time of sex life, man. This is why I'm trying to get as much fun as I can, because after the late teens/early 20s are over, I have a feeling sex is going to lose some of that spark, something to do with getting older and more mature. I mean, it's crazy to think that a large deal of people get married in their mid to late 20s, that's what happened with my parents but I don't see that happening to me. How they could decide to choose one person to live the rest of their life with with at least 60 years left to live is beyond me.iatneH wrote: Besides, I'd be surprised if Fighter17 being 17 are financially stable enough to support a meaningful long-term relationship anyway, but I suppose dating means something else to guys your age. Two things sparked this idea to get in everything while I can; one, I saw the hotty who played Juliet in the 1968 movie as a really old and unattractive woman a few months ago, which really got me thinking, damn, looks really don't last forever.
And two, while it's already illegal for me to go out with high schoolers now, it's going to be superillegal (and kinda creepy) in a few years time. So now's the last chance I'll ever get, so here's to using it.
Did I just derail this thread?
ah well
I had to get some of that off my chest.

I'd rather play Ocarina of Time then get laid. Sex seems like a chore to me. Also, you have to worry about STD's, babies, and the fact if you're partner even enjoys it or not.
EDIT: I'm not saying OoT is a chore to play. In fact, that game is nearly perfect and is much better than anything I could do with a girl. Also, the game lasts longer.

I know no one asked for my opinion, but I have to get this off my chest. I want to thank Hollywood and MTV for the subject we are talking about. Thanks to them for making being boastful, self centered, rude, inconsiderate and having no morals a cool thing. And thanks to a lot of American kids to be dumb enough to buy into all of this garbage. A lot of you may think I'm being too old fashioned and backwards and non progressive, but remember: not all movement is forward. And there's nothing wrong with being old fashioned, polite, modest, and actually having morals.

Damn, I didn't even get any in high school and these kids are doing it in middle school?! God damn these kids nowadays. I would have cut a finger off to get a good roll in the hay with some of the girls I went to school with. And it's just like an everyday novelty to kids now, so much so that they already need tto be doing it in public just to spice things up!
One of the girls I wanted really REALLY fucking bad in middle school is a porn "star" now. I'll guess I'll just have to settle for the DVD I've got that features her. Better than nothing, I guess.

Preach on brother. My girl learned from cosmo that guys "like having fingers stuck in a certain area" in order to heighten sexual pleasure. Fortunately I was able to defuse the situation before she ventured too close but how many guys weren't so fortunate? We many never know....junkeR wrote:Lets not forget the magazines either. Why can't these magazines do something good for the community by printing headlines like "Ugly people: They do it better!" or "Statistically speaking poor people are better in the sack?"

What I want to know is WHY people think self-restraint is a Bad Thing(tm). Merely because something is natural doesn't immediately make it holy and inviolate. (Of course, this is coming from a 29-year-old male who actually prizes his chastity...) So...what's going on? Do these fellows see themselves acting so chaotically thirty years hence?
Meanwhile, I do wish people would realize that ANY formation of contraception is not guaranteed to prevent pregnancy. Bring the probability very close to zero, yes, but not AT zero. So, best to be sure. Don't bed each other unless neither of you are afraid to have a child (not "desire a child"; just "not afraid to have a child").
