Strangely, no love for the "single white pixel" bullets...
Where are the retro fans when you need them? :?

Orange, fire-like, bullets are nice too though. :P

Seriously though, PSIKYO RED AND ORANGE. They sold out when they made DB pink.

Blue and Pink baby! The default white with orange outlining is nice too, and easy to see in a hectic situation.

I personally prefer FREAKING HUGE MISSILES AIMED AT ME WITH UNGODLY PRECISION!

or Batrider's multiple bullet types, either way.

They're like the piercing rays of the sun! Hard to miss. Especially on Strikers' muddy backgrounds.

Radioactive green would be my second choice.

Radioactive Green would be a nice change of pace. Agreed.

I don't think I hate the bullets for their color. Whenever I see a psikyo bullet I think of Gunbird and that always leads to frusteration and anger.

Thinking purely of how they affect your gameplay, I suppose you're right about stark contrasts, but aesthetically speaking they aren't nice to look at.

The oval rotating orange psikyo bullets, and the 4 shades-of-gray gradius bullets (that rotate colors clockwise).

I always liked DDP's pink blobby ones. The ones that look like three or four smaller bullets stuck together. :P

Any kind of rotating, radioactive-looking lozenge is a winner, too.

Nothing perticular just something that flashes or stands out from the scenery.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Hate Psikyo orange oval bullets :x but i like the sphere shaped illusion created by the rotating Raiden2 (up to Raiden Fighters Jet) bullets :) DDP had some creative bullet designs.

The Mars Matrix/DDP blue and pink blend of various shapes/sizes are the ones I like best.

Any bullets that aren't like Battle Gareggas. Without the red bullet option that game is damn frustrating.

yellow/orange cell-shaded bullets, or pink. as long as the bullets are sorta the same color. the pink and blue on DDP stage 4 boss cross me up and kill me EVERY single time...

Not sure if this is on topic, but when I'm waiting for a boss in DDP I like making flame peni with the red ship.

Yeah, but they are real BULLETS. Sharp and pointy. With all the industrial atmosphere and the debris, white dots look so out of place. But granted, they are hard to see.

Similar situation in Ibara: Hard to see, but incredibly cool looking swords, daggers, rotating metal roses. It just looks THREATENING. You can say what you want, but it is a nice change from generic dots.

In general, I like games where enemies shoots all kind of projectiles at you; laser, fire, rocks, anything. Unfortunately, this got lost when "barrage" style of shmups emerged.

I like the spinny destroyable light-rainbowed narrow-pointed shots from compile games.

Were they the ones who invented the "spinning almonds of despair" that you saw in every 90's shmup?

Yeah, I agree, sometimes when I pause the game I just marvel at all the detail they put into the bullets in the game. However I just can't stand it when I'm playing and I'm doing pretty well and then my ship just blows up from being hit by a bullet I didn't even see. Realism is cool and everything, but I don't think its a necessity in a shmup since it isn't exactly the most realistic genre (which has a lot to do with why I like them so much). Especially when it interferes with the game play.
