The Puyo Puyo scene looks pretty active. Here are some upcoming tournaments.

There used to be Senko no Ronde events when that game was popular. G.rev had a page for them. You can also watch past matches on nico nico. There might still be tournaments somewhere, but that's all I got from google.
Also, I'd still appreciate knowing if a known Giga Wing 1CC without reflect exists.

That ending was amazing beyond belief. Also the replay was crazy

Surprisingly enough, Catherine's VS mode has a presence at EVO itself as a side-tournament :

The game doesn't have online play though, so tourneys are local.

Thank you for this, this actually is really encouraging. That run gets to stage 5 with only 2 bombs in stock. With Shutock, I can reliably make it there with 5 bombs, sometimes NMNB to there. But stage 5 is where a no-reflect run really starts and I usually mess up and fail to bomb with bombs still in stock. Very impressive watching the last two bosses get taken down with no resources left, even if they get hit right before the TLB was beaten.

Does anyone here know about any scoring tricks in Batsugun that aren't listed in Randorama's ST? I'm trying to understand how the WR is over 27 million. I haven't tried savestating/invincibility-cheating my way through, but I'm pretty sure even if I got all the tricks I know, I'd still be off by a couple million points. The counterstops of Special ver. on Jaimers' YouTube channel and Replay Burners both reach 27-28 million in the first loop, but Special ver. scores higher on certain tricks and has more secret pigs. The only thing I can think of besides entirely new and unknown tricks is to somehow extend the Jupiter milk even longer and sacrifice more bombs and lives, but I'm guessing these counterstop runs cut off the milking when they do because the boss is about to time out. You might be able to start the milking pattern more quickly so you can squeeze in one or two more bombs...

Edit: I managed to get about 27.5 million (400k over the record) by spending every single life and bomb on Jupiter and performing every other score trick. So if you can find a way to dodge Jupiter's timeout pattern long enough to throw the rest of your resources into the milk...

Cool R-Type bastard son, but the slowdown and flicker is kinda offputting in the 2nd loop.

Anyone here successfully used a Dualshock 4 controller with the Ikaruga Steam port? Mine goes nuts (won't stop scrolling). Every other game I've check has worked without any issues, this is the final hurdle before I can retire my 360 controller.

Eh, not sure why native DS4 support is broken for Ikaruga, but DS4Windows still works fine. Goodbye, 360 controller.

If it's anything like all those NeoGeo hacks with "plus" tacked on the end, then it's cheats added.

For an extra hilarious title, see the hack of NeoGeo Strikers 1945 Plus, titled Strikers 1945 Plus Plus.

FACE made that really weird albeit cool Hani in the Sky for the PC Engine.
Sadly the game has no scoring system whatsoever, what a loss...

I got another question for light gun games, but this mostly applies to the Operation Wolf series, the Lethal Enforcers series, the Virtua Cop series, and the Police 911 series. Why are there civilians constantly running around in the middle of a gunfight? Do they WANT to get shot?

Because it provides the challenge of giving you targets that you're not supposed to shoot.

I still can't help but think the hostages must be too stupid to be running in the middle of a shootout. Well, unless they were held at their will and had to escape before they'd get shot. At least Time Crisis isn't like this, unless you're playing the Rescue Mission mode of the third game.

Anyone that knows Japanese, and plays Castle of Shikigami, can anyone tell me what's going on here? Is Kohtaro quizzing you on what kind of game or something? Or teaching you how to play? I know he's saying something about a game, but I don't know if he's breaking the fourth wall or something.

Looking for some recommendations!

I'm looking for a game that is:
  • Fast-paced
  • Not particularly difficult (by which I mean not much harder than the more challenging Psikyo or CAVE 1-ALLs)
  • Minimal reliance on reactions/on-the-fly dodging as opposed to planning/memorization (so minimal RNG)
Dragon Blaze is a good example, except the second loop is harder than what I'm willing to sign up for at the moment and I've already played the first loop to death. I'm also planning on taking Gunbird 2 and Strikers 1999 out for a spin tonight since I haven't gotten a 1-ALL in either yet.

What kind of answer are you hoping to get for this?

Well, it's because I was playing Police 911 on my PS2 (with a controller and not a gun peripheral) and I'm constantly getting annoyed at accidentally shooting at the bystanders running around or the officers that's standing in my way.

- Raiden DX on Novice
- Salamander 2 (although there is heavy item RNG the game is quite static, you have to suicide YGW-style though)
- Sonic Wings series (3 and Limited are easy if you play the Japanese versions, 2 is a little harder, 1 is too bullshit for me to enjoy.)
- Storm Blade (pretty easy)
- Mahou Daisakusen series (Mahou and Shippu, international versions are easier)
- ESP Ra.De. (tough cookie)
- Rapid Hero
- Thunder Cross series
- Thunder Force AC
- Sengoku Ace + Sengoku Blade

I haven't cleared all of these but they seem like what you want.

Are you specifically looking for arcade games, Shepardus?

If so, I would agree with most of the choices offered already (with the possible exception of Mahou Daisakusen, the heavy RNG during boss fights is my biggest beef with the game) and add Air Buster, Dangerous Seed, Dragon Spirit, Exzisus, Fantasy Zone, Forgotten Worlds, Gun Hohki, Rabio Lepus and Side Arms (off the top of my head). Hyper Duel's bosses can be rather erratic, everything else fits perfectly, too. Dangerous Seed might look unwieldy but I'd imagine you appreciate the brevity and neat concepts in it. Forgotten Worlds has hectic bosses but you can much more easily plan around that due to the health bar than in something like, say, Mahou Daisakusen.

Gallop and Nostradamus are also fairly close to what you have in mind, those might be a trifle too hard for what you seek, though (that is, if we look at the "not particularly difficult", I smiled when you mentioned freaking Dragon Blaze as an example thereafter ).

Edit: I should definitely mention Game Tengoku which is like a hybrid between Psikyo (gameplay) and Parodius (visuals, theme, sort-of with the scoring). Not the biggest fan of it myself, you should most likely love it. Difficulty is probably somewhere on the lower end of the Psikyo 1-ALL spectrum.

If you like Caravan games you should also check out the second Macross game (the horizontal one), that is as short as short can be.

I'd recommend Thunder Dragon 2, slightly harder than a Psikyo/Cave 1-All but not as difficult as a 2-All, smooth scoring too and I don't remember significant rng.

Doesn't have to be, as long as it's something I can play.

I was actually just playing that last night! It's a bit harder than I was looking for but it is good fun.

DX Novice is much easier than expert course; its mainly Raiden ii stages 1-5 with slower bullet speed, less enemies, and bullet patterns are easier. I also think it's a bit easier than Raiden I ( which i need to get the clear for already).

A survival clear won't take very long, but finding a good scoring route for getting the medals and pods will take longer.

Rapid Hero would definitely fit the bill. It feels fast paced as enemies dive in rapidly, your own shots feel intense and satisfying, but it's entirely memorizable shots (no dense, RNG dodge patterns) and is quite easy due to the number of bombs you get. It's a solid game and sounds like it's exactly what you're describing. Really, great gameplay, graphics, music. Only issue is it's fairly easy compared to other arcade shmups and only has one shot type to use, so if you just want a 1CC it may not hold your interest after you beat it.

For non arcade stuff, the Aleste games are also great fun. GG Aleste 2 is satisfyingly frantic on its highest difficulty and extremely fast paced, but is entirely reasonable to play difficulty-wise.
