Which is the generally preferred version of Bangai-O? It seems the differences in gameplay are pretty significant.

Personally my order from best to worst is Dreamcast>DS>N64>Xbox live.

The DS and Xbox live versions are more puzzle based mini levels over the other versions. Personally I found the Xbox live version to be too difficult / frustrating.

Damn, that's a pain. I was hoping the 360 version would be decent as it's the only one of those consoles I've already got set up. Might be time to dig out the Dreamcast again

In case anyone didn't see it, Cambria Sword is now available on the English side of DLSite. No sign of the kitties yet, though.

Does anyone know if the battle Garegga superplay vhs (black cover/t-3 kamui) is the same run that's on the NIH "the madness" DVD? Also, what's a reasonable price to pay for said vhs?

It's a different replay with a slightly lower score. Prices vary, but around 30€-50€ seems to be apt.

Thanks plasmo, I didn't think I'd get an answer on this! A guy is selling one for about £68 inc postage, which I do feel is a little steep.

It literally says in the title. Storm Assault (it's not a gradius game, it's gradius inspired).

Are there any shmups that don't have any bullets? Either no player or no enemy bullets is interesting to me, both is even better. Parts of games (like a single stage) will do too.

Might split this off into its own thread...

There's a Touhou spinoff game called Shoot the Bullet, where you do not shoot.

It's a boss rush game where you're supposed to take pictures of the boss and her bullet pattern. You have to navigate the pattern, get close to her and take a picture. You get points depending on how good your picture is, and the bullets in the frame of the picture get canceled.

To what end exactly? Just so you can look at it without playing it? Can you still die from collisions?

Thanks for the responses; I should have remembered Shoot the Bullet!

I assume you could practice chaining, though I don't know how much help that would be without the bullets to guide you. Plain old invincibility would be more useful in that regard.

The easiest difficulty of the PC ports of Raiden 3 and 4 have no enemy bullets. You can still die from collisions.

Can Hellsinker be bought digitally anywhere? I'd rather not pay import prices for something I don't want a physical copy of.

edit: more googling leads me back here; apparently the answer to my question is 'no'.

What's with Dariusburst CS? It seems dull and easy and I'm not excited to play it, which is a shame considering how expensive it is.

Am I just doing something wrong? Am I missing the point of it? Is there some scoring mechanic I'm supposed to know about that will make it fun?

Well, do you know how Burst works? The stage designs are not particularly engaging on their own.

Which mode are you playing? The EX routes in AC mode can be quite a challenge (though still easy compared to the toughest shmups out there).

I don't really know how it works. I know it's a laser and apparently you can point it, but I haven't found a use for it other than blowing up long strings of enemies.

I tried AC mode but it isn't very enjoyable without two monitors.

The game doesn't have any kind of tutorial to explain the mechanics, though someone did write a guide about it here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =575302379

Some later Chronicle and CS mode missions get way harder than any of the ACEX routes. CS mode tends to have harder boss fights since your horizontal space is far more limited (eg. Great Thing) and many safespots no longer work.
You can stack shields in most CS missions but they added a big bonus for taking no damage in stages. In AC you can get hit with barely any cost in a lot of situations.

To what extent can one de-waifu-ize DDP Resurrection? Disable backgrounds, voices, etc.. I want to support PC shmup releases but the emphasis on anime girls... I don't like it.

Wasn't there a bug with a boss turning invisible? Do you think we could ask Degica to add that back?

Not really bad, but enough to have stopped me from buying the game in the last few sales. Not my thing. I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually; it just keeps getting bumped down the list.
