Congratulations! Progear's second loop is ridiculously brutal, and I know you've been working on this for quite a while. Looking forward to seeing the run!

Thanks man, yeah, I really got back into the game after playing AK, and I just felt that hitting the ALL was the next big step. Was itching to get it, so I practiced 2-4 and especially 2-5 like crazy.

In this run I sadly died on Volvox at the very end in the first loop losing my full bomb bonus, but had enough rings to get all 9 lives for the second loop. Had zero mistakes for my line but kept it resource driven; since I already lost the big bonus I didn't hesitate to bomb basically. I entered 2-5 with 8 lives (no bombs), and with 5 lives left I eventually managed to get to the last boss. I'd like to improve how I handle certain pattern's on 2-3's boss, and 2-4... The stage isn't bad, but Kraken is just nuts.

barely an achievement but i managed to get around a 767 chain in daioujou stage 1. Despite how much i say i hate this game i keep on playing it anyway and i do have to admit i felt pretty exhilarated when i finally managed to do it. After hearing people say that i shouldn't expect full chain stages in just a month or so and getting this makes me determined to try again till i can full chain stage 1. I also need to try to collect that bee at the end without dropping the chain meter.

Can definitely see what errpo said by DOJ chaining being a bit easier than DDP because hypers are making thinks much easier for me.

congrats STG!

Bad ass kids.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

I'm planning on adding in some annotations on this one, at least to explain certain parts a little better! :) Ended up crashing early last night, so I'll finish up the editing after work today and upload it tomorrow evening.

Going to continue playing it for a while as I know I can score better, I've been hitting 100-120 million quite a few times lately. This 2-ALL gave me the confidence that my line/play is solid. If I can repeat what I did yesterday, keep the bomb bonus until at least 2-3, and waste minimal lives getting to 2nd loop Volvox (none or just 1 restart) I should be able to drastically improve my score with end game bonuses! I want to move up in the high score chart. ;)

1cc'd Rayforce!!!

I consider it the Majora's Mask of shmups. Totally one of a kind and amazing.

This game also made me come to an epiphany on why I still love large hitboxes. I used to chalk it up to feeling more "visceral", which doesn't mean much. But it's actually more about tension. The sense of mortal terror when a bullet grazes by you, or when you just barely squeeze between a tight gap is like nothing else.

Daaayyumm, that’s quite a feat Grooktook!

I agree about Rayforce and big hitboxes. Have you tried Air Gallet? I think you might like it.

Just 1cc'd Touhou 7 on lunatic. The main reason I'm super happy about this is because I had been playing with starting lives set to 5, and on a whim decided that 1ccing it that way wouldn't feel as good, so I set it to 3. About five runs later and I had it in the bag.

So that's my first lunatic clear ever, and with that out of the way I'm looking forward to start playing for score.

That is indeed an impressive achievement, add my felicitations to the ever growing pile. :)

I was also able to clear a Taito arcade game the other day - Darius II. And by the looks of it I'm currently holding the Western record for this game  (if you consider the PS2 version to be accurate which most people here seem to do). Not that Darius II is particularly intricate regarding its scoring or anything, but it is a nice feeling nonetheless.

This game is shitting me, though. The gunwall boss are tough as nails due to bouncing cells but luckily the slowdown helps me to dodge that, same as the enemies while they brutally spread all their bullets onscreen in stage 5. The last stage are culmination of cheapest moment in the game like the pink flames attacks randomly, 3 Big cores, falling walls, jumping Moais, Zelos comes from behind, but thanks again to the slowdown. For escape sequence I stayed on middle of the screen to avoid the closing walls. Despite the cheapness, I really love this game :D love the stage 4 music 8)
And I tried to manage loop 2 but gets died because of that. Also congrats to STG and Grooktook for the triumphs :D

Holy shit, nice one Mr. Grooktook! RF's a hell of a beast to keep under control, I never did quite get the 1CC. I feel like such a poseur having not seen the stoical journey through to its courageous end.

RF story is some serious business, isn't it. Now that's a goddamn interactive movie. ;-;7

Got my first letter score in Garegga! Got plenty more room to raise it, and I still haven't cleared the game, but it was the first big goal I set when I started learning it :)

Tell me about it.

Also, having made it to the end, I have to say, one of my favorite moments in shmups is now the midpoint of the final stage. It's easy enough to appreciate the serene "Quartz", especially after the previous 3-4 menacing tracks, but the secret ingredient that makes it all come together is the overwhelming stress of struggling your way there. After all those incredibly tense rng dodging sessions in the past two stages, the brief respite in difficulty* (where you're actually encouraged not to shoot at certain targets, adding to the sense of oddness) and momentary slow, along with the serene melody, gives the segment an incredible surreal and dreamlike atmosphere.

You're just so engaged at that point by all the insane shit you had to get through to make it there, that you just can't help but be completely engrossed by that atmosphere.

*Of course, after a few moments, the illusion fades and all hell breaks loose.

Well done!
Am currently going through all the routes on Darius 2 now, so will have to go back and see if I can push the score any more.

Alright managed to beat my hi score while clearing DDPR so now the clear and score are on the leaderboards! You'll find me under 'GetGetPoint'

It was a scrappy run with a schoolboy error on S2 and a miserable S3 but apparently gets me top 40 all ships and top 15 B-Strong so I'm not complaining. This is still my first proper clear, and I'm getting that score without entering the hidden route at all. Assume the 'Resurrection' leaderboards are for the Western release only?

Anyways won't post here again until I pass my target of hitting the second extend. Should get me top 10 for B-Strong and I think that would be me DDdone... for now...

Apparently I got the normal WR in sonic wings 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNymmeIsglU

Still haven't gotten the random 1% chance WR after 49 worthy completions. I'm hoping it happens before 100.

Cleared Sorcer Striker; the western release of Mahou Daisakusen.

Bit of a cop out as I heard the western version is easier.. I'm gonna get into Mahou now then.

Finally no death/no miss cleared Space Megaforce/Super Aleste on Wild Difficulty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJVNw-zIFzo

Probably the best shmup on the SNES (I still haven't played the entire library but I'm getting there). It's fairly easy on default settings but wild mode brings a whole new level of crazyness and intensity to the game. Awesome game.

SA/SM max difficulty is one hell of a good time, and pretty goddamn brisk too - easily my favourite of the SFC's small but potent batch of worthwhile shooters. Glad you were able to partake after suffering through the likes of D-Force!

D-Force was almost worth playing just for the stage 1 music, but it immediately goes downhill after the first 30 seconds of gameplay lol.

Well I finally completed my first shmup 1cc with Rayforce! This game is simply incredible and I had fun experimenting with the scoring system in the game. The soundtrack( original/Saturn arrange) is also one of the best OST's for a shmup that I've heard in recent history, and along with the enviornment totally had me immersed in this game. I still going to try to work on improving my score in the near future.
