Finally giving Batrider a small break I decided to try Garegga to see how primitive it felt in comparison. Has been well over a year since I gave it a whirl, and after a few practice runs last night... I got this today:
Image
Image

Went into the airport with 2 or 3 lives I think, got clipped once by BHmk2’s sweeping vulcan but successfully got above it the second time. Glowsquid almost entirely had missile arms which nailed me once. Got to the final form with no lives remaining and no missed for the 1CC!

Only my second time clearing garegga, and the first time with a non-Golden Bat! :D

Thanks!

Once I realized that I was distributing my bombs on Larsa's phases instead of specific attacks, the whole fight became a lot less stressful. For example, I have to bomb the first form three times no matter what - I risk trying to no bomb her first two attacks, but then she has so much health during her spreads that I waste three bombs there before ending the phase anyway. Phase three is similar - I can TRY to dodge that spiral of hers, but then I have to bomb everything after anyway. So it's safer to just take her health down as quickly as reasonable.

1 sissy strats :D

Just got a 1cc of Guwange on stream. Probably one of Cave's easier clears, what with all the resources and comparatively basic pattens. Still happy about this. Been playing only for 2 days, and was a lousy shit clear with chains broken at stage 3 or so, but I enjoyed it.

Definitely might be one of my favorite Cave games now though. The familiar mechanic really feels like you're controlling two symbiotic characters working together. And of course there's the lovely audiovisual presentation and atmosphere. Feels unique in a way that non-Irem shmups seldom do, heheh.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Wow, congrats! I have struggled with the game for years, one of the few cave clears I’ve still yet to nail (single loops). I have to give it another shot soon. I agree, it’s one of cave’s best. Which character did you use?

Pleased to finally have something meaningful to write on the forum!

Today I got my first ever 1CC: Dodonpachi Resurrection 1-All (B-Strong) :)

The score is pitiful and wasn't even my best ever so it isn't on the leaderboards, but I did it with only the 1st score based extend plus the L3 1up and finished with a bomb to spare! Gonna keep working on it and try to get my score up to my personal target, which involves hitting the second extend without entering the hidden path at all. Will post a pic at that point (have got one I can send to prove this clear though, for any doubters!)

Next up will prob be Futari Original, but planning to get my stream on with Astebreed on Twitch first!

Oh, thanks! I used Kosame (mostly for her ending though lol). I might try it again with Gensuke, since his move speed feels good for many patterns.

Totally disagree; that game is tough and you should be proud. That's a seriously impressive clear under your belt!

I just counterstopped the original (non-Unlimited) version of Battle Bakraid.

I'm not completely satisfied with the run (especially since it was so close to being a 1cc as well!) and I had chainbreaks in Desert and Seaside but I do see this as an accomplishment. The counterstop came as a complete surprise since I was still quite a ways off when I got to Gigamanta, but Gigamanta's worth more points than I previously thought.

I think I'm done with Normal Course for now unless I want to go for a counterstop clear, so it's time to focus on Advanced Course.

Nice!

Is there a reason you're playing the original version? Just like the idea of having a counterstop? :P

Yeah, I wanted the counterstop, no other reason. I'll be playing the Unlimited version again now, in the hopes of reaching 80 million on Advanced Course and beating yk's score (the best score with a publicly available video I know of).

very happy with this score, no-auto fire

Does the person update the high score thread for this game anymore, though? I posted a score about a month or 2 ago and it never got added to the OP...

Ah, thanks. To be fair, the only other Cave shmup I've been serious about for a while is Ketsui, which is utterly brutal and unforgiving. I may just have lost perspective, ha ha.

Got the MMP 1.00 clear as Rafute! I've now cleared as all three characters, which is kinda cool. Currently trying to decide whether to use Momo or Ikuo as I try to learn to score better. Any thoughts?

Ikuo is frustrating to play for some reason. I prefer Momo, though I think her scoring capabilities are technically lower thanks to her wider bomb.

Most of the WRs are with Momo, though, I think. I'm not sure the reason why.

I personally prefer Momo just because of the faster speed and wide shot, but I'm not at all high-level at that game.

Extra speed is the big thing, I think. It takes me a long time to adjust to Ikuo, and if I play even a single credit with the others it's painful going back.

After something like one year and a half of playing Hellsinker on and off I've finally managed to 1cc it with Deadliar!

Too bad that I fucked up at the last moment with Garland thus triggering the second form of the last boss and losing access to the TLB AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I just cleared Metal Torrent / Pattern Mode with Blue Nova (Maniac). That game has probably the strangest difficulty settings I've encountered so far. On easy the game can be cleared on your first try with little difficulty, but on maniac it ramps up dramatically. Still, a fun little game.

2-ALL'ed Progear.

Image

Hilariously enough, as I'm watching the ending, the JAMMA connector must have came a bit loose (it's happened before) on the PCB and I lost the signal on my CRT and on the capture. So I couldn't even put my initials in or see the ALL next to my name on the score board. Ah well, it wasn't a high scoring run as there were a couple of mistakes. But man, so nice to finally have 1 credited this game! Sooooo happy! :D

I'll upload the whole run to youtube (including the signal loss part, lol) sometime this week.
