I'm sorry if you got offended about what I said before, but even though I think the USA would win in a comparison with some or most asian countries "freedom levels", that wouldn't quite necessarily make the USA's a paradigm.

Portugal was already dead anyway... :( So it seems like the USA will face Belgium on the next phase...that'll be a nice game to watch.

That actually happens a lot, they must be used to that by now...In fact, it seems that they always use that green one, that's curious.

Very, very much. US gave away way too many passes and had many other obvious fuck-ups (even to the uninitiated) to even warrant a draw. The US keeper played well, and in close proximity to their own goal they played good defense, but it was a bumbling mess getting the ball to the other end of the pitch. :-/ Anyway, onwards and upwards. Apparently we'll be playing Belgium next which is a lot nicer than other teams we could play.
I'm sorry if you got offended about what I said before, but even though I think the USA would win in a comparison with some or most asian countries "freedom levels", that wouldn't quite necessarily make the USA's a paradigm.
Don't sweat it -- I'm unoffendable.

I respect everyone's right to call the US a police state. To an extent, they are true. Hoewever the US employes a lot of checks and balances to ensure you don't slip through the cracks. Perfect? Of course not, but something. I know for a fact, Japan (and a lot of Asia) does not... to the point that if you slip through the legal cracks mistakenly, you're life is over.

Honestly I can't comment on countries on other continents, but knowing people from a lot of them I know I can draw some conclusions. I'd say anyone in Scandanavia is a prisoner in their own home due to the astronomical tax on alcohol. :D

I really am happy the US got through. I think they've done amazingly this tournament. It's difficult for them because they don't have the same opportunities to practice seasonally against high level teams that some of the other countries do, but to emerge from a group with Germany and Portugal in attendance is no small thing. They also scored probably the best goal of the tournament in the Portugal game.
gbaplayer wrote:great game Germany vs USA but the Germans were clearly better and controlled the game the whole time.
I strongly disagree. Both team performances were hampered by the weather and they were both sluggish and struggling in the last third. US made some errors and gave the ball away, but held up well in defense and the keeper was superb. I didn't see a Germany that was allowed to run rampant - I would have expected a much larger scoreline if that were the case.

What the USA team needs is a freaking wild striker. Give them that and they'll get really far.

Nail-biting stuff. I wonder if that disallowed goal by Hulk for supposed handball will be a crucial factor in this during extra time.

Rooting for Chile!

Hulk goal was obviously false due to receiving bal with arm.
For neutral spectator this is great game in any case though...

Penalties will make decision where no end result would be justified.

Cold nerves and luck will decide winner now...

And this time the arbiter actually was almost flawless (so no one to blame but oneself if one loses).

This Brazil should be the worst Brazil in the last 20 years . OSCAR doesnt deserve be in the team. Neymar is an awesome player.

Later Uruguay warriors vs very good team of Colombia. Defensive counter attacks vs technique and order.

Somewhat disappointed, I wanted Brazil to lose so we could see the highlight real on the news tomorrow from all the rioting.

Its very un-nerving for a penalty shootout against the home nation at a world cup. The jeers coming from the stadium when Chile went to shoot just added that extra bit of "oh shit I don't think I can even hit the ball" syndrome.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Motherfucker, I'm an underdog supporter so I wanted a Chile win. Gripping stuff.

I don't think this Brazil side have the minerals to win, I think Holland would annihilate them tbh.

Goalposts saved the day. Julio Cesar may still have time to get in acceptable shape but I'm heavily skeptical of him, may we never need to go for the penalties again.
Not feeling the rest of the team either.
