Not every shmup 'feels' the same in motion. Gradius Advance has a distinctly slow default movement speed.

That price is insane for something that looks like it came out of a 3D printer rather than the game. Those Mars Matrix cubes were obvious pre-renders too, I don't know how far back in time you have to go to find authentic rotating sprite cubes. Xevious or something.Steven wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2026 6:17 am I found the Ketsui 5 cube in a 3D crystal on Yahoo Auctions, which is close enough, but I also remembered that Mars Matrix has cubes too, and they're gold cubes. That means that not only did Ketsui steal its cubes from Mars Matrix who stole them from Gradius III who probably stole them from someone else who definitely stole them from whoever invented cubes, it means that Mars Matrix has the best cubes because GOLD, obviously.

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC)
I've programmed many games before, so I know what you are talking about. Take something like Tetris inputs, the amount of little details that go into it is crazy. I do think that when isolating just the movement in a shooting game, it doesn't involve nearly as many subtle facets as you imply, but I get your point. That said, I'm not really looking for arguments about whether it's possible to make it "feel smoother" or not. I'm just asking what it means in the context of this game. This feels like a factual thing that it should be possible to just answerMJR wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2026 12:51 pm In case if you ask about "details" - If you really get down to the weeds of doing character control, it's not a simple issue of "get input from joystick, move sprite", there is way more to it than that. Is the movement triggered? Is it started? Ongoing? Completed? Are there input priorities? Many of these are also design questions rather than technical questions. And these were just some ridiculously crude examples from the top of my hat, simply to show that a simple issue of "get input, do something" is not so black-and-white. And this was not a believable exhaustive laundry list either. It's up to the developer what they feel is important to do.
I knew there was lot more to making games than what can be seen on the surface, but I did not really grasp it until I began programming one myself. Making controls feel GOOD is a HUGE amount of work and you really need to know your shit.
And I believe Yuge knows better than most people so in my mind Steve's claim is believable.
This is probably the best argument I've seen anyone post on this subject. But I feel like what's relevant here is still just - what is Tatsujin Extreme doing different?Sengoku Strider wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2026 1:36 pm Aside from things like input delay or controller dead zone settings, I remember seeing an interview with I believe one of the Cave guys, where he was talking about feel and smoothness and he said the secret was in the animation. I can believe it, a lot of their games from their mid-period onward do a really good job of making you feel like you're gliding along despite having precise 8-way digital movement.

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC/Switch 2/Xbox Series)
Japanese page is finally finished and preorders for PS5 and Switch 2 started today. Only thing that's new is that the Tatsujin, Tatsujin Ou, and Batsugun (why?) ships seem to just be skins instead of actual different ships and that each comes with music from the corresponding game. The almost definitely disproportionately expensive LE comes with some manga by Joker Jun, but it's specifically labelled アッシュ編, so there is a possibility that there might be more.

Wow! Super cute!! Haha that gold 3D ship in Premium Box... look so cute!! Never thought about how those orbs at side of ship would look like in 3D... really looks so funny! But funny in a very cute way >.<!~ Hope it is not delusion... but really crazy looking forward to this game!! 2026 definitely looking like great STG year so far! Quite a few things looking forward to... but many without release date @_@"... at least for this... we have release date... so because of that this is probably #1 STG looking forward to now!!~

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC/Switch 2/Xbox Series)
If you want to see how weird the orbs look in 3D, there is a video that plays in the background on Tatsujin's website where you can see the ship model very well: https://www.tatsujin.tokyo/
That little metal ship figure is most likely the reason that the LE is so expensive. Plastic ones are probably not too expensive, but if it's a solid chunk of metal that might be different.
Now we just have to hope the game is actually good, and I hope Joker Jun's manga or whatever is good too. I like what I have played in the demos so far, especially the stage 2 demo, but we'll see. This is one of maybe three non-rerelease games this year that I actually care about. Including rereleases, MGS Master Collection V2 (GHOST BABEL!!! And some other stuff, but who cares about that because GHOST BABEL!!!) exists too. Other than that I don't think there is anything else for the rest of the year that I care about at all.
I kind of want to try multiplayer in this, but everybody that I know that plays STGs lives far away and none of them have a PS5 or Switch 2, and I don't have a Switch 2 either, so hopefully it runs properly on Steam Deck this time because I don't want to carry my PS5 or especially my normal PC on a multi-hour train ride. The stage 1 demo from last year ran at half of the screen's refresh rate, just like Exelica (not Enhanced, I don't know about that one) does. Think it had something to do with Unity being a massive piece of shit, but I'm not sure.
Also looks like the unintentional Xbox demo has been removed entirely now. Lol that was definitely not supposed to happen.

Thank you for this!!! Wow, but really... think they did super good job in re-imagining this ship in 3D!!! Not everyone can be successful at doing that!~
And the best part is... not only look so adorable... but captures the Tatsujin spirit so SO perfectly!~

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC/Switch 2/Xbox Series)
I think it's very likely that that is the same ship model that is used in the game, at least during the launch and landing scenes. Not sure about the in-game model, but I don't see any reason that they couldn't use the same model for that too if they really wanted to. It's not like this game is pushing the PS5's hardware enough to warrant a lower-fidelity model, and the Switch 2 probably shouldn't have a problem with it either.
The one that I really liked seeing in 3D was the Kaitei Daisensou sub in R-Type Final 2. I love that model for some reason, even if I don't actually like playing as the sub in R-Type that much.

Iam a bit sad, that the characters look very generic (and have those stupid "sounds-like-western-people-if-you-are-japanese" name). The guy (Tatsuo) in the original Mega Drive booklet looked so damn cool. A bit like the art and style found in Ikaruga.

They posted a video about 10 hours ago on Twitter / X. Why does that trailer have Tatsujin Oh footage near the beginning?

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC/Switch 2/Xbox Series)
Joker Jun has a relatively distinct style, but yeah, the MD version art is probably cooler, at least. A few of Toaplan's MD instruction books are basically miniature art books, like Zero Wing and Same! Same! Same!, so everyone that likes Toaplan is basically required to read them.Angry Hina wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 11:57 am Iam a bit sad, that the characters look very generic (and have those stupid "sounds-like-western-people-if-you-are-japanese" name). Well the Tatsujin Ou ship is available as a skin, and it comes with BGM from the game, so at least there is something.

I see that the PS5 based "Tatsujin Extreme Premium Box" set is listed on Amazon.co.jp for $127.93 usd (with shipping to the USA included -- how much extra that'll be is still unknown at this particular point in time): https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B0GWJF ... 089&sr=8-2

As Steven mentioned, the Tatsujin Ou ship and its music is a DLC included in the physical releases.
*Felt I had to reply given you have Zub as an avatar...
There are also some call outs to the past games in the series, some of which you can pick up from the trailers.

What's the difference between PS5 and Switch 2? I got a PS5 just for this game, R-Type Final 3 Evolved, and CYGNI: All Guns Blazing, you know...

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC/Switch 2/Xbox Series)
You bought a PortStation 5 for fucking Cygni when you could have gotten it for FREE on PC, even though it still wasn't worth it for free? That's like buying an NES for Action 52 or a Mega Drive for CrazyBus. Actually Cygni is better than those games, but when your defense of Cygni is "at least it's not as bad as CrazyBus" that still means it's complete junk!
You're free to waste your money as you see fit of course, but damn, at least buy the PortStation 5 for actual good games, like.........................
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
does PS5 actually have any games aside from Astro Bot? I've had this dust collector for like 3 years and all it does is be a ShotTriggers/ACA machine.

Well, I totally buy dumb shit too, but you know... PS5 has like no games, and almost everything that I can think of that it has is either on PS4 or PC or even Switch already, so it's kind of a terrible system unless you REALLY want to play Astro Bot. At least it's really good at running poorly optimised PS4 games way better than the PS4 can.

Not going to lie, the limited edition box set is tempting - 2 disc soundtrack and SKULL BOMB COASTERS
Physical edition for xbox too, which seems rare these days. But I'll take it, seeing as Switch 2 is still a mess of game key cards and meh exclusives.

Genuinely think it's worth getting the LE just for the soundtrack.

I guess there isn't a special version without the model? I would like just the art book, manga and soundtrack as extras.
Also be careful on Amazon Japan if you're ordering from there, I guess because of the model, once you pre-order you are locked in until it ships and won't be able to cancel. Have made that mistake before.

For those who played demo... is the hitbox in this game same as Truxton which is like... size of Jupiter?
Just tried Truxton (Bitwave on Steam) for first time and... really wondering why people complain about euro-shmup but somehow this is ok? lol!!! Really feel this game commits even more sins than most euro-shmup, and, of course... playing this with understanding it is very old game and have some culture significance... but feel that game can be both bad and important at the same time @_@"... hitbox too big, too many death from sneak attacks, return to checkpoint and power-down when die can make later recovery super zzz (especially for parts which need fast ship, and now you have snail speed ship), so on.
Quite sure this is least enjoyable STG so far ~_~"...

Re: Tatsujin Extreme (PS5/PC/Switch 2/Xbox Series)
The hurtbox is supposed to be large. That's proper STG design because there is no ambiguity about where it is. It's one of the biggest reasons that bullet hell is garbage. I don't remember how big Extreme's hurtbox is, but I seem to remember it being slightly smaller than Tatsujin's.
Also don't play Bitwave Tatsujin. Some of the music and literally all of the sound effects don't work properly. Use MAME. At least there it sounds correct. But yes, Tatsujin is a weird game. The first time you play it you'll probably think it's complete shit, but it's actually a lot of fun once you 1-ALL it and realize that it's actually a super easy game.
