Just to clarify - we aren't seriously considering a move to censor the game at this time. Hearing your thoughts on the topic reinforced my opinion that censoring a game isn't productive.

Yes. More critical than lolis censoring Junya Inoue's work would be unacceptable. His style is pretty unique.

I hate the loli crap and DS is far from my favorite Cave game but I own it for my Japanese 360 as well as the IOS version. I'll buy it again for Steam solely to show support but not if it's censored in any way.

If the bathtub ending wasn't intact I would find it very difficult to "get the 1-all" while playing this game, if you know what I mean.

Anyways, just to revive the topic concerning that it wont be long until DS for steam comes out soon, and see how the port fares out!

It'll be interesting to see how this release goes. It's a pretty lame second release imo. Hopefully it won't take away the steam (/pun).

I think from a bussiness standpoint it's an excellent choice. I would rather have had something else, but Deathsmiles was CAVE's best selling game on Xbox 360, so it makes sense they want to get it out there.

Rumor has it that a 3rd game is already being portet to Steam, so maybe an announcement will come in the near future after this release?

Mushihimesama was releasesed on November 5th and the Deathsmiles announcement was on December 26th, so maybe the next game will be announced late April?

Any details why GOG refused Degica?

Indeed. Things are very quiet here, for this release. Looking forward to buying it as soon as it comes onto the store.
We are spoiled now, I think. When Cave SH-3 games were added to mame, there was a virtual party here on the farm. Now we finally get them on pc and its "meh"

Blackbirds input at release time is missed, also. Hope everything is ok with with him.

Yesterday I got some tweets from Degica about the game but I find it very odd they haven't been drumming up/hammering this release, what gives? Release is today later at my night (no idea about US times) but should be early morning of the 11th in Japan so maybe that's why. STILL, kind of surprising they didn't take the entire week to drum up interest. Yes, I know it's a re-release (plus the too-close-for-comfort edition lingering around for a while) and all but for PC it's still a brand new title.

So, yep, hopefully this does well and we get the third game announcement soon. Hopefully it's SDOJ or Ketsui or something. Internally, I wish it was Ibara Kuro but beggars can't be choosers.

Blackbird hasn't logged on for two months - very strange. Wonder what's up.

Cave's been doing a little bit of advertising for the release via their Twitter account, at least.

I can only speak for the USA, but Deathsmiles was readily available for any Xbox 360 owner for like 10 bucks for the longest time. I'd say that stripped out a lot of potential customers.

Yeah, Deathsmiles has been readily available foreeeevvvvveeerrrr. It's a great game, but people who care about it have had every opportunity to play it already. It was never going to be as exciting as something that hasn't come out in the US before, or that hasn't gotten a home release.

I read on GAF that Blackbird is no longer working for Degica.
Grain of salt of course but that's the word.

Well, that explains the absence here and why another guy on behalf of Degica posted on the Steam forums for Deathsmiles, anyways, I (and others) here will give best wishes to his future endeavors.

Alright, bought with the OST. Hopefully it's not a shitport! Fingerscrossed. Although some of these achievements are starting to scare me. Too many 1ccs required... And I don't think this game was precisely easy, especially with all the talks about that Jitterbug guy and Tyrannosatan.

Hi people I'm new over here...

I'd like to know if Deathsmiles will have some interest for someone who never played a manic shooter and is a beginner. Or if I should skip for now ?

Well, the game is suited for beginners since it includes a difficulty setting in-game when you pick a stage/route. You can go though Rank 1 difficulties as simple as that. (Don't pick the Gorge though, that's an automatic Rank 3 + Suicide Bullets).

Deathsmiles is one of the better starting points for a novice shmup player, probably the most accessible of CAVE's games. Stuff like the selectable difficulty for each stage was geared specifically for beginners.

Just bought this and here are some observations:

Cons:

1. The slowdown in the game is off, realllly off. Seems there is slowdown missing all over the place in all modes. MBL 1.1 and Ice palace where is your slowdown? ALL of your slowdown.
2. Stuttering all over the place on all modes.
3. Sound effect are all over the place. Sounds mash into each other and seem to cancel each other out or just missing. (same issue the NA version had).
4. Boss music is starting too soon in some stages.
5. Hackers already on the leaderboards.
6. Achievements do not unlock in score attack mode.
7. Some graphical errors here and there like black boxes around enemies and The Box on the Title screen looks really big and out of scale.

Pros:

1. The menus system is easier to navigate
2. Able to switch to English and Japanese interface
3. more screen options and picture displays like the other cave ports.

I'd say Blackbird's departure dampens my optimism that they'll utilize feedback to get these right.

1. Yeah, its just like the NA ver 1.00 again, ugh...>.>
2/3/4. No problems here.
5. Yeah, I doubt that already.
6. Actually, they do, I just got them with Windia for example. (Dunno if the Arrange 1.1 achievement bug is present for 1CC all clear.)
7. See 2/3/4.

And pro's are good, lol. Though yet this release is still missing "Full Voice" DLC. >.> (They handled the 1.5 DLC thing in Mushi, why not this? >.>)

I saw a score that was in the billions for either Arcade or Normal on the leaderboard on someone's stream. So there's definitely hacked stuff there.

Is the port really that screwed up on the slowdown?

So at the moment, it seems to be wait and see if it gets much better as well. Mushihimesama was already an easy must buy because of the 360 version being region locked and not getting a localized release. At the moment, I'm fine with the 360 version if the PC version isn't working right.

It is disappointing that the slow down issue has come up again. I am concerned that without Blackbird's frequent communication that issues like this aren't as likely to be fixed. For instance, there is not a bug reporting thread stickied in the Steam forums, and dev interaction has slowed down on the shmup forums. There wasn't a pre-release stream to build hype for the game either.

These are simple things that a dev can do to let their audience know that they are listening and involved in the community. I have already purchased the game, but I will wait and see how Degica and Cave respond over the next few weeks to decide whether I initiate a refund. I will support them if they continue to support their games.
