Re: New Sync Strike - Available Now!

Did someone on this thread figure out the whole 15khz via the RGBHV inputs on the Edge and didn't tell me? I get asked about that from time to time.

I just ordered a sync strike to play with myself, but I got this rather unfriendly error after checkout

Money has gone from my Paypal though so I guess it's ok.

The whole connecting 15khz sources to the edge using the RGBHV inputs rather than the RGBc thing, from reading back through this thread it seems some progress was made with getting that working reliably, possibly using the Extron too?

Yes, it is actually based on the LM1881 as far as I know.

To bring this whole thing back to life!

Below is a screen capture of connection to the EDGE via PS2 -> Sync Strike -> EDGE via RGBH

Below is a screen capture of connection to the EDGE via PS2 -> SCART to RCA -> EDGE via RGBs

The difference is subtle but obvious imo.... look at the word WEAPON between both captures. The RGBH connection is certainly sharper. Also look at the "I" on CREDIT... less ringing by the looks of it.

It's more obvious seeing the output in "real life".

Yeah its definitely better, I need to document this on my site, I'll run some tests of my own when my Sync Strike arrives. So you've just got the sync strike in the chain between the Edge and the PS2, no Extron or anything like that?

Be sure to test Master System dropouts with the Gefen Scaler Plus. :)

Well I got mines today. Was very happy with the shipping speed and then tried it on my faroudja NR series and got nothing. Just black not even a static. It does have soun so I know the unit works. I need some help here. Thanks

UPDATE

Tried hooking it up using the RGB+ sync leads. Now I get a picture but is all scrambled. I just about had with that faroudja NR. I tried hooking my SNES using the scart to YUV convertor to it and I would get a shake whenever the screen had white on it now I tried to use the sync striker and it still no good.
Unless I can find a comprehensive way to fix, the faroudja will find a new home.

I just got mine today, I'm sure this is a VERY dumb question but, how on earth do I attach the PSU? I cannot find a connector that is suitable anywhere on the Sync Strike, the only one I see which says 5V and GND is a totally different connector to the one on the PSU I've been sent.

You'll have to fit an appropriate connector off the 5v & GND blocks. Either that or chop the connector off the PSU and hardwire.

Ah right, I did wonder if that was the case but I thought I better ask before I started chopping away, thanks.

Yes I only tried my SNES.
It goes like this
SNES on SCART>Sync Strike>Faroudja NR> VGA to HDMI convertor> LG HDTV. I have tested and know for a fact that the sync strike is good is that Faroudja NR series that doesnt like the connection.

Have you tried the Sync Strike with the SNES on another processor that works then?

That don't mean shit I'm afraid. The Sync Strike does not work with certain connections on a DVDO EDGE for instance, regardless of the lights and audio..... it's a sync issue.

I made my own sync stripper thanks to fagin but I keep getting static on the screen & most of my scart machines dont work.

NTSC SNES -> works fine when pluged into my LCD TV, nothing on screen when plugged into my homemade stripper
Playstation 2 -> Screen has static when plugged into my homemade stripper, works fine in the TV

Not tried Megadrive yet.

If I buy one of these will it play all the many consoles machines hassle free?

I have own the sync strike and quite honestly it hasn't been a very smooth ride. I just started noticing that the video quality is inferior to the one given in my SCART to YUV converter. I have reason to believe that it is actually giving composite video instead of RGB (the reds look awful and the video is very blurry). Also, I am having sync problems with my sega saturn. I was previously blaming the CGA2VGA converter for the quality but I have done some testing by using the Y-pb-pr input provided in the CGA2VGA and now I know that the problem lies in the Sync Strike. Also, the front page states that there is a way to switch the Sync Strike from C-sync to H-sync. Where exactly is that switch? Do i have to solder something?

it may look like composite but that's impossible to actually be composite.

fagin, as usual, thanks for your help. I finally got around to ordering an Extron RGB as you had said, and the thing is totally incompatible. Trust me, I know I'm a moron, but let me know what I did wrong. This is what I ordered:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180727585272?ss ... 1439.l2649

Did I screw up because it's the Mac/Quadra interface? I had no idea what that even was, I just searched "Extron RGB" and ordered the first one that popped up. Let me know, I want my games to look as good as yours!

The 103 is about the oldest interface you could have found. 17+ years ?
Not sure if it already has the full sync processing the other units have. The input is not really a problem. It's just different plug.

Jeez, it's like I was trying to buy the only wrong one on eBay or something :)

Can you do me a huge, gargantuan favor, and link me to the cheapest one on eBay that will do your thing with the Edge?

US, just put a bid in. Hope I win! Maybe this will save me from having to buy the XRGB Mini :)

Unless you use the Edge for DVDs, TV etc A LOT, you should definitely consider selling the Edge the getting a Mini instead. It's a day and night difference, really.
