Yes

So I just played some rounds of Mushi Maniac with the leaked Demul Beta. No sound or anything but it was fun nevertheless.
The graphics are almost flawless in this 4 months old version. The slowdown was horrendous :lol: .

I did some more research and it seems like the real deal will be released soon.
0.5.5 -> 09 10 2009
0.5.6 -> 01 09 2010
0.5.7 -> 24 07 2011 ?

Even earlier would be awesome. Tomorrow maybe?

I haven't seen word of the devs though. It's only speculation as far as I know.

It's probably ok.

Not everybody in the scene is a mardy asshole like the ones spreading rumours that it's dead (that's mainly coming from select mamedevs)

Leaks happen, even to commercial companies. Professional developers just keep calm and carry on.

When one of the FBA devs showed videos of ketsui emulation most ppl started saying it wont be released, and it was released in mame romsets comlete with the code.
Also in conjuration with the CV1000 stuff shown by demul devs, the relevant roms were added to the mame romset, and the roms themselves are supported by the leaked version of demul.

I'm referring to the posts by Denny and Haze/ISeeThings specifically.

Here: http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/sh ... =5&o=&vc=1
but if you read the thread it is just irritating idle speculation.
Had me worried there for a moment though :D

A Demul beta was leaked, it runs the Cave games at about 20fps with no sound and Gfx glitches.

It was leaked by some scammer who claimed he would dump his PCBs if he could be a beta tester, instead, he was full of shit, got the beta and leaked it.

At least one Mamedev (R.Belmont) and some others are now saying that Demul is dead as a result. Just because said people pretty much canned their own emulator (Zinc) in the past over petty issues has no real bearing on what other people do, and should be ignored.

People who have talked to the Demul team since the leak have been given more an impression that they simply don't care, they think it's just a silly bit of nonsense. They haven't released a build yet because it's not ready, and the leaked beta is a piece of crap anyway. General stability and correctness of emulation isn't there yet, which is why they haven't made an official release.

The Demul releases have always been sporadic, and the next one will happen whenever it happens. Obviously somebody leaking their beta was a bit of an cuntish thing to do, but they're above petty retaliation over it, it was their own fault for trusting the wrong people afterall.

Ive got mixed feelings about this, as im sad as I would of liked to check out Caves PS2 era games, but also happy due to the fact that this looks like the 360 era titles wont be fully emulated for a bit longer which is good news for Cave and the genre as a whole, as it helps keep these games exclusive and not become something like Touhou where 99% of non Japanese players pirate rather than import.

Considering it appears that the beta was leaked. It seems that my assumptions as to what kind of ppl the Demul Devs are might of been incorrect. Maybe they do have some consideration for Cave after all. Hopefully they can sit on things another 9-12 months so that Cave have time to find their feet in how they are localising their games in the west.

Hopefully this news will increse the chance of cave remaking Mushi on 360 along with that new version

It's the western distributes that would get screwed by the emulation not Cave.

Cave make there money by selling cardboard boxes and fuck pillows, neither of which can be downloaded.

So now that Demul was presumably dead, perhaps Cave should ask the MAME team to remove their SH-3 games in the next update of the current build or so.

If they do, it makes Cave not giving up pumping out arcade shooters for years to come and get their momentum going.

Even after the leak the guy responsible for the sh3 code still kept replying on the youtube videos, and he doesn't seem pissed about it.
Also the demul team like it was said before really don't like to give dates or updates, release date announcements are usually on day of release.

And once again, it's not rare to see the guys from mame team giving false information like haze (I think) about PGM emulation were he said on the fba forums it will never be released and such.

True, being able to emulate sh3 Cave games definitely won't INCREASE the chance of companies like RSG throwing their money at more Cave titles. Good thing we still have extra game modes, high-res graphics, leaderboards and the likes to justify buying the X360 version even if you're not a collector type like most people on here...

Pirates will be pirates.
You either want to pay for a game or you don't.
Be it emulation or copying 360 ports, there are means to get around paying for shumps.

I don't think there is such a thing as "lost sales" with the enthusiast gamer market.
Only way to actually generate lost sales with piracy is when people make uninformed impulse buys.

But let's not derail this thread.
All I'm saying is don't be afraid of piracy or emulation - when people want to pay for the game, they will.

I don't think it's derailing at all.
Thing is, as much as DeathSmiles was a game that appeals to enthusiasts, I doubt that's where RSG or Aksys made the majority of their revenue from releasing the game.

X360 piracy isn't nearly as common as arcade emulation. Most people where I live don't even recognize they're doing something illegal when playing MAME games...

But I hope you're right.

There is no news, though. Nobody's got any real evidence of anything actually happening, as far as I can tell.

I'd guess it's the other way around.
Surely not on this forum, but think of the general dudebros that play 360 games.
They don't even give a fuck about old and ugly 2D games. ;)

We're a pretty small niche interest group when compared to the Halo/Gears/CoD dudebros.
