C'mon, Treasure had nailed it back then with that power-up saving option.
Picture Saturn's Radiant Silvergun without it. I don't even want to imagine what its reputation would be today.

How long 'til you think someone figures out what the unlockables are? I'm surprised Treasure haven't said, themselves.

It's up on Partnernet now, so maybe people can start putting some time into this game, and find out.

yep, exactly on time. so much for whining :p I'm going to check what the trial is before buying.

@ kid aphex: nope, just played it on mame MAME with lag a long time ago. the scoring just doesn't look fun to me in superplays is all.

edit: not a bad trial and the hi-res sprite mode looks pretty nice.

edit2: no 4:3 support? come on.

The input lag is huge. Was the original like this?
I don't care though, no 4:3=no buy.

Can someone confirm that having the Ikaruga game is required for Ikaruga mode? And is the mode any good? I'm glad everyone will get a chance to try RSG now but if the new mode isn't anything interesting, I probably won't bother with this version for awhile.

Huh? Haven't tried myself, but the IGN review linked above mentions 4:3 is the ONLY ratio available.

for the "game window" of course. the whole HUD only displays in widescreen on your 360 like with Guwange before the patch.

Ikaruga mode is pretty much the same, but you can chain any color in groups of three now. Works surprisingly well without even changing the enemy layout.

It's a big deal if you're trying to play on a 4:3 CRT.

You get an avatar shirt for playing the arcade mode twenty times and a remote-control avatar ship for playing story mode twenty times.
Might be some gamerpics too...Have no idea on that.

I don't see why you would want to do that.

I DO find it weird though, that they bother making backdrop borders to fill out the excess space in 16:9 mode, while not actually supporting 4:3 mode.

You don't understand why someone would want to play a game that was made to run natively on a 4:3 crt on a 4:3 crt?

That aside, original assets look much better on a crt and many hd tvs (mine) have input lag even in game mode.

The XBLA version isn't made to run on a 4:3 screen.
Turn on hi-res graphics and enjoy the nes polished graphics on your HDTV. The original STV/Saturn game wasn't exactly beautiful with its rough-edged prerendered sprites and blocky mesh blending, but the art direction itself is pretty neat.

Yeah, but I bet this would look EXTRA nice, on a CRT.

I would go hook it up to one, but I'm too lazy, this morning.

I think I actually like the Ikaruga chaining in this. Which is funny because I HATED the chaining in Ikaruga. But it seems to actually work well in this game and seems better than the standard chaining.

Some people (me included) have their 360's hooked up to their cabs. So this would be a major issue. I have my cab tated, so I won't be playing RSG on it anyway though.

Unfortunately the rest of the world has completely abandoned CRTs and the rest of us are just holding on to a dead technology.

Can't you just change the display size in the options to fill your 4:3 screens?

If the game outputs only 16:9, you can't do anything about the letterbox. The letterbox is added beyond the game layer. The game has to specifically include a 4:3 output mode to get around it.

Also, anyone who thinks this isn't a problem has no idea what they're missing. There's nothing more gorgeous than running a game to a PC or arcade CRT. I even keep a pile of CRTs in my basement so I never have to worry about not having access to one.

The high res mode looks far superior to the original Saturn graphics IMO, and I'm playing on a (16:9) CRT.

Also, a lot of CRTs have a Zoom mode don't they? Mine does, allowing you to get full screen even when the aspect ratio is forced (as this appears to be).
