Yeah. Might actually be worth just straight up saving up for, at some point, but I've got too much X360 plans in the near future to, for now.

Crossing my fingers for a 2015 Drakore release, though :P

i have a technical problem you guys might be able to help me with.... i have an old dell crt monitor for my pc which i am thinking about using for my xbox 360 more or less permanently, so i don't have to constantly flip my crt tv when i want to go between playing nes/etc and 360 shmups. however the monitor doesn't have anywhere for the vga input to go.... it has a proprietary cable which is attached at the back of the monitor and ends in a male vga.

will something like this allow me to hook the two together? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Female-Gender-C ... B000N4P3QO

Yeah, I think you'll be good with that. I have a similar setup

I also have a 360 cable (though still haven't pulled the trigger on the 360), and it looks pretty much the same as the DC one on the vga end.

sweet, i'll order myself a 360 vga cable and one of those then. although i'll still have to flip my monitor if i want to play touhou or other doujin games which don't have tate.... can you ever have enough tvs/monitors? not to mention move the 360 to another room if i want to play some kind of regular big screen game.

does everyone else have these constant set up related issues?

While it's not quite as perfect as using a CRT, I switched to a low-latency rotatable LCD monitor a while back. It stays hooked up to both my PC and my 360 (or any other HDMI console) so it can handle all sorts of STGs.

Does anyone know of a controller/coverter/adapter that would let me use autofire on a Neogeo AES/CD?

In Darius Gaiden, the plot involves the series' protagonists Proco and Tiat fighting the Belser Army once again, according to Wikipedia, IMDb, and the Darius Wiki, but on the Darius Wiki, I see articles on two pilots from the game named Case Ardin (Player 1 character) and Anna Steiner (Player 2 character who resembles Saber from the Fate/stay night franchise). Are those two supposed to be Proco and Tiat or are they just new characters? The only time I actually see them is in the Zone Y ending, which looks like a scene from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

What version of Futari Black Label is in the Xbox 360 port of Mushi Futari? Is it the Japanese BL release or the stupid "Another Ver" release with even weaker boss health? I'm just curious because I'm surprised a version with lower boss health would exist, considering how fast they seem to die in BL (assuming the 360 port uses the Japanese version, the screen doesn't say "Another Ver").

One of the local guys in my area had the Another Ver. He once commented it's not the same as the 360 version.

Just tried out Another Ver in MAME (why the hell does mame list it as the default version, and the Japanese as the alternate, wtf), bosses definitely die even quicker. Might be other stage changes too.

Was he able to fix his PCB by converting the necessary roms? Is such a conversion doable?

That's the one. There was a Japanese release, and then there's the bastardized one (aka the International "Another Ver").

For some time MAME romsets have had the US and International versions as the default parent.

MAME team have made landmark stupid decisions in the long history of the project...
This is one of those.

What features does GareggaMAME have over regular MAME, and where can I find a copy of it?

The "official" site for Garemame is long gone, but I squirreled away a copy here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/y61va ... ramame.rar

As for what it does -- it reduces input lag with a buffer hack, and IIRC it has some rank hacking tools. There's no real reason for it to exist.

Are there any other shmups that have a similar shot mechanic to the main shot in Grind Stormer, where it can alternate between being a spread shot or being a focused beam by moving your ship up and down? It seems there might be a nod to this in Hucast's upcoming Ghost Blade, but I was curious if any other games in the last 23 years used a similar mechanic.

Mushi Futari 1.5 does this with Palm Normal's Laser. If you move down, it focuses, move up and it moves away (hori and diagonal hold position).

Armed Police Batrider does this with the sidepods - the shots spread out a bit more if you move up, and focus in while holding down, helps for characters like Adam who have wide shots that can be focused.

There are a fair amount of weapons like that, though I struggle to remember exactly where I've seen them all...offhand I recall Axelay's "Wind Laser", which bends a bit if it's fired while moving forward or backward.

Related but not quite the same: in Warning Forever the shot focuses a bit when you rapidly press directions (similar to the rolling motion in Psyvariar).

Does the Japanese PS2 release of Dragon Blaze have the ability to tate both left and right?

The monitor I'm using only supports the Tate L mode. So while I've been able to play Mushihimesama and Espgaluda, DDP DOJ has been a no-go...

this may sound like a broad question so sorry but out of curiousity which punishes you more for breaking a chain DOJ or DDP? (in terms of score)

Are there any bits of lore floating around for Dimahoo, like the backstories for Batrider, Garegga, and Mahou 1? The interview here briefly mentions backstories for two of the characters, curious if there's any more to that or it's just entirely confined to the developers heads.

DOJ. I'm pretty sure the chaining works the same in both games, but the hit counter reaches higher values in DOJ so there's more to lose for breaking a chain. Also breaking a chain can throw off the timing for when you get hypers, affecting both score and survival.

@shepardus, oh well that means I'll never do well on DOJ in terms of score easily >_<

Sorry for another question guys. I asked this like a month or two ago but unfortunately I forgot to come back and give an answer to the people who tried to help me, sorry :(

Anyway so basically on MAME I can save a state just fine by pressing SHIFT+F7+[key]. The problem comes when I try to load the state. When I try to load the state by pressing F7+[key] nothing happens :(. I am using MAMEUI64 0.155.

your score is fucked either way if you drop the chain in any ddp game, you can forget about scoring in any DDP game unless you can chain properly or survive without bombing or dying for ungodly amounts of time

just learn to chain instead of looking for games where dropping the chain makes you lose slightly less points
