If I may ask, what are your thoughts on the game (played on a PS1)?BIL wrote:Been enjoying Night Raid's OST this evening. Bludgeoning metal with an atmospherically dark electronic tinge. Far from the most tuneful or sophisticated shooter BGM, but that's no problem with such gleefully malevolent vigour. "Monolith," "Ice" and "Cogwheel" are my favourites, but it works best as a whole with its relentless chug/pulse and EP-quick runtime.
The SHMUP music sharing game.

Re: The SHMUP music sharing game.
Unfortunately I've only played it very briefly and casually, can't really comment in depth. Certainly has the pace and onscreen boil-over I'd expect from Takumi, at least. I like their style and thought the "thermometer" score counter looked like a good laugh, so I picked it up for a rainy day already having Mars Matrix, Giga Wing and GW2 on Dreamcast.
It's probably the least-loved Takumi shooter around here, with the stick-waggling "hug launcher" mechanic a prime point of criticism. Nowhere near as loved as their reflector tetralogy. There's also the alleged muddy controls when not played on a stock NTSCJ PlayStation, as you've probably heard.

I am a huge fan of the 2 DC Giga Wings and Mars Matrix, so I had to pick the game up for myself. I haven't played it much either, but I' m always interested in reading opinions about it: they are few and far between, to say the least.
Initial thoughts when I was "hug launching" for the first time: where am I supposed to look at now?
P.S. Amazing that it saw release on the PS1 in 2002. Poor Takumi must not have made a lot of bank with that one.

JSR $2302
the ps still had decent sales throughout the early 2000s, across the globe. that was when psone books and a lot of budget titles happened. not quite to the level of the ps2 or anything, but still. remember that the ps2 was the first console to do real backwards compatibility, without having to buy anything (the mark iii is the closest thing to an exception).
last i checked, night raid in general is obscure because it simply was never advertised well.nosorrow wrote:P.S. Amazing that it saw release on the PS1 in 2002. Poor Takumi must not have made a lot of bank with that one.

Looks like this thread hasn't been bumped in a while. Has "Planet Ratis" from Life Force / Salamander been posted yet?

I also quite like the NES arrangement, though not as much.

Speaking of Lotus Land Story, I can't get enough of its title screen music.
Re: The SHMUP music sharing game.
This would be the first song that REALLY got my attention when I started playing shmups--"Water Front" from Sky Shark.

Accidentally discovered This song, from Hellfire, because youtube apparently defaults to automatically playing suggested videos. Pretty good one, though.

Re: The SHMUP music sharing game.
I was just thinking of this song, except I think the version of Planet Ratis in Salamander 2 is the best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TrJOsiA0b8. The stage where this is played (only during loop 2) is quite crazy, music fits it perfectly.LordHypnos wrote:Looks like this thread hasn't been bumped in a while. Also, I want to point out a song from Strike Gunner STG (SNES), which I'm playing right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3L79GW6T7s
I think this game gets a lot of hate (and I can certainly see why), but if you crank up the difficulty to the max it becomes almost an entirely new (and much better) game.

Al-effin-right, I FINALLY, after a long time, updated the playlist until this very post (mine)
We've reached 232 videos by now and that means you can listen to the playlist until you get to see your grandgrandgrandchildren and without the need of repeating it!

Anyway, since pegboy called for awesome S.T.G. OST, I'll bring this one:
Strike Gunner (S.T.G.) - Final Stage

Two more, both from Konami:

Someone did a chiptune arrangement of the entire Eschatos OST. This nearly slipped under the radar.

Hmmm, this really shouldn't leave the front page...Time to add something to get it back up. Not to mention to replace my accidental repeat ("Into the Crystal Cage").

My gateway Hosoe tune ^__^LordHypnos wrote:Dragon Spirit Glacier Island
Partially due to it being the only track the lukewarm doujin AST Lead Into Genesis translated particularly well, though the OSV's crystalline tone is unmatchable. "Paleozoic Era" did ok too, but "Volcano" and "Graveyard" are shadows of the originals. I was blown away when I tracked down the OST and heard those.
For a long time Volcano's spiralling elaborate solo made it my favourite on the soundtrack, but lately I prefer the simplicity and intensity of Graveyard. Those echoing call/response power chords really scintillate.
