It may, but the only games that will do this properly are the ones that have been designed well enough so that the dipswitches provide no advantages.

An example would be last year's A.P.Batrider - a game where the 3 lives default is visible on the ranking screen, and playing on easy will decrease your score potential.

Another example would be Border Down which is virtually fool proof (as long as you're not into photoshopping pics). You can never have more than 3 lives. One life is generally the highest multiplier (except ST3G). Setting it on easy will get you no score at all  . The only downside is that 1 week is a tall order for such a game.

Anyway, back on topic; Rob wrote;
2, since you keep saying how forgiving Giga Wing is regarding medals, just so you know beforehand: it is not. Even if you 1-life clear the game and try to collect medals it is no guarantee of even a decent score. The Giga Wing games are all about extremely minute details that push the multiplier to a level that would give you a good score. The multiplier is really increased by the last few hundred collected medals you probably won't even see.
This has gotta be true. I can't score for toffee on the GWs
Despite this, Psikyo games don't suit the way I like to play, so GW it is for another throw-away score  . Unless....

If you put that way, indeed, a game most favourable would be one designed tournament/competition friendly and to eliminate the possibility of other factors at work besides skill, effort, etc..

In that case, a replay would be necessary to valid X players score, to check for any inconsistencies, but I doubt the demand for such is at a majority or popular-type state yet.

Even though it's not the team vote and it has zero chance of winning, it's still hard not to vote for Feveron.

I vote for Strikers 1945 II.

Turbo Team is voting for Strikers II. The irony is is that Rob holds the GW high score here by a fairly large margin.

I like how Coop thinks he's going to have to waste a bunch of time playing through Strikers twice. It's cute.

How long does it take to play through a Psikyo game twice? 40 minutes tops? That's not much longer than the average one-looper. And, that's assuming you CAN loop a Psikyo game o_O Buggers get bloody evil in the second loop.

25-30 minutes total.

And if he makes it to 2-1 he'll probably give up on focused medal collecting by that point. This isn't OFS. Really.

See? At 25-30 minutes total, that means people who aren't godly at the game will have more opportunities with however much time they can spend on the game to improve. Since if you can't get past 1-4 or 1-5, you'll be getting 2-3 times as many runs in as you would in Giga Wing given the same amount of time, so you'll improve faster.

Yeah, mess up on stage 3 in GW and you either restart the game or miss a considerable chunk of points starting with the stage 3 bonus and then... everything after that. That's why they call GW forgiving! Miss a gold bar in Strikers: v:)v

I just want to play the PS port I just bought. lol

Honestly I've never been a big fan of the Giga Wings. I prefer Mars Matrix over them anyday. That and I just feel in a Psikyo kind of mood ^_^ Not to mention I haven't given Strikers nearly the time it deserves. Time will tell, however.

The only port I have is on the Taito Best Psikyo Collection release thing for PS2.

Hey! I've reached 2-4 a number of times over the years (usually got blown up on 2-1 or 2-2).

Actually, I call it forgiving because in Strikers, if you miss a gold bar, there's little (if anything) to do to make them up later in the stage/game, due to there being a small, set number of medals in each stage (I'm sure there's probably milking somewhere, but...). In Giga, if you miss a group of falling medals (or a few big medals), you at least get a chance either later in that stage, or in the next one, to try and regain those lost points.

I'm not aiming for beating Rob's uber score. I'm looking at the two games that are the leaders, seeing which one gives me the best chance at steadily improving as the week progresses, and is the most forgiving for small fuck ups like missed medals or missed enemies. That game is Giga Wing in my opinion.

Yes, once! Miss a medal in GW and miss points from every enemy, bonus or anything worth points for the rest of the game. Die in the middle of the stage = essentially missing a few thousand medals.
In Giga, if you miss a group of falling medals (or a few big medals), you at least get a chance either later in that stage, or in the next one, to try and regain those lost points.
No, you don't! It is actually far worse.

And for the record my GW score needs a hell of a lot of improvement... it's painful to think about.

Well you win either way then right? Strikers wins and you laugh at all of us and have fun with your play week. Giga Wing wins, and you laugh at all of us and then clear your conscience about your GW score.
