No problem and thanks. I guess pm isn't ideal for notification as opposed to bumping the topic. I'll remember next time.

For clarification, I go by RFP and I already had an entry on the AV-8 listings. Not a terribly big deal since both scores suck.

CIV- 681100- F/A 18 Super Hornet - 1-6

Giant tank level and train levels are not nice as 3rd and 4th.

The tank as far as I'm concerned is the hardest boss in the game. It's the reason I can't really progress through the loop. For some reason I'm unable to nail down it's 2nd form on the loop.

The train is easy once you figure out the pattern. It can be a bit more challenging on the loop if you aren't fully powered up though.

Hey, I go into the dipswitch settings and all I get is Debug on/off and Version japan/international a/international b.
Where do I input 1999 to access the X-36 ship?

Need to access the test menu(so F2 in Mame32). Under which you goto maintenance code:

While you're at it, stage should be 2-2 on my score in the X-36 board. It was changed properly for the Overall board.
Nice score Necronopticous!

I didn't update AV8 to remove the dup.

The two player ALL on YouTube is pretty fun to watch.

Was in the mood for some Psikyo, and since Futari was out of the cab, I started playing this again. Cross Blade's second form still gives me problems. Every run at least 3-4 bombs wasted there.

First time to 2-3, and surprisingly no-missed all the way there. It was there that I was demoralized by that asshole tank boss. I'm excited, because this is the first score I'm posting which was made on my own PCB! It just arrived in the mail, yesterday. I was so close to grabbing the high-score slot, too!

Ahhh, welcome to that cock-hole of a 2nd round tank boss.

As a side note, someone posted a 2-player 2-ALL play of Strikers 1999 on youtube. Here's the link to part 1, the other 3 parts are their profile.

Grabbed the high-score slot on my pcb, finally. Almost gave up entirely dying twice (idiotically) on 1-8, but I managed to make it to 2-4. I guess I am improving on the second loop stages.

Holy Hell! First time to 2-5. Awesome run, too. big medal chains all throughout the first loop. No-missed to 2-3, including getting the tech-bonus on the tank boss in 2-1 (thanks to a large stock of bombs). Haven't really practiced 2-5, but I made it to the second form of the boss, where I was destroyed by an unexpected flurry of bullets. I was so excited preparing my cellphone camera for the picture, I didn't even get to put my initials in. ;]

Damned nice job. You've now passed me. My best was getting to the 1st form of the 2-5 boss, then face planting into the large-bullet spray.

Going for the 2-ALL?

I'd love to get the ALL. I've been playing a least a couple of games every day with that goal in mind. I normally give up before ever getting an ALL on a 2-loop game, since it just takes so long for each playthrough, and the first loop gets tedious as hell, but this game is so damned fun, though. I think it is a cross between the short length of each loop, the randomized first four stages, and the precision required in the first loop even after complete mastery of it. Whatever the case, it just keeps me coming back. Since I got the pcb, it has not left my cabinet.

I'm getting better at the second loop stages, but it's very easy to make mistakes since it's so fast and precise. The good news is that I credit-fed through the second loop for the first time, just to see how bad stages 5-8 are in the second loop, and I was actually very surprised at how do-able they seem. Honestly, they do not seem to be too much harder than their first loop variations at max rank. There are a few boss patterns that just look impossible to me, but at such a late stage in the game, I think I would just make those patterns dedicated bombing spots. I think the first four stages seem like the biggest hurdle in the second loop. If I can get more comfortable with those stages, I think an ALL is definitely possible.

Get back in there, dude! You were so close, yourself. ;]

I've fallen out of playing shmups seriously for a while. The urge to play them comes in waves. I'm probably due for some shmuppage this winter. But lately the 360 has been owning me with Fallout 3 and Gears 2. Next up Left4Dead. ;)

Wow. I have finally figured out this "double tech bonus" thing I'd heard about. I have only successfully nailed it on the stage 7 boss thus far. It requires extreme precision. I have a feeling this new revelation is going to delay my progress for a long time to come, as I re-think and re-master the bosses of stages 5, 6, and 7.

I know "how" to do the dbl tech bonuses, I just can't get the timing right. Actually, I don't understand the timing for the level 5 boss. Level 6 you have to be able to dodge the tech-spray of Geobite (that boss is hell). Level 7 involves going in for the tech bonus after the 10th wave of criss-crossing (I think it's 10th).

But you are 100% right, the timing is incredibly precise.

I wish you were playing on Mame, I'd love to see some of your replays.

It just seems impossible to get the stage 5 boss down. As far as I can tell, you have to time it so that you tech bonus him and kill him at exactly the same time; he doesn't glitch out like the stage 7 boss does. I can actually get the stage 7 boss pretty much every time now, but I do use a bomb to make it easier on me. I don't know if I have the willpower to deal with Geobite. I tried to learn him with save states on MAME last year before I got the PCB, and there are a couple of his patterns that I just can't dodge, even when I completely know what to do and what to expect. I may just settle for the double tech bonus on the stage 7 boss at this point.

I would love to play some games on MAME and record them, but the only problem is that I get some input lag on MAME, so that really trips me up now that I'm used to the pcb.

No score increase yet, but I did manage to no-miss/no-bomb the first loop last night, which is amazing since there is 3 or 4 places in the first loop where I always end up bombing. It was just a really good (read: lucky) run. Got cocky and died on 2-4, though. I still haven't made it back to 2-5.

Yeah, you have to get the stage 5 boss to where he is flashing but will still show his core. Then keep shooting, and bomb him during the tech bonus while going in for the tech bonus. Pretty sketchy.

I have never no-bombed the first round. I have to use a bomb or two on the second form of the bee. I can't consistently dodge the mass-spray it does.

There's actually a trick to that attack. If you position yourself just to the right of one of his first bullets, you'll dodge the whole attack in place. Alternatively, if you're a pixel or two off of the first bullet, you only have to tap left and right once or twice to dodge it. Once you do it once, it's pretty easy to duplicate.

A potential oddity about Geo-Bite...

In MAME, the lasers in the 2nd to last attack won't reach you if you're on the edge of the screen, but in the PCB, it does.

Could someone else confirm/disprove this? I'd only played the PCB a few times, so it might not be actually true.

The lasers won't hit you on the extreme edge on the pcb, either. Things like that will not change between MAME and the pcb, because that is a fundamental game positioning difference, which would never be altered.

Right when I started playing 1999 again I picked up a 360 last Saturday. Now it's been a whole Thanksgiving holiday dose of Gears and Gears 2. I also have L4D waiting in the wings.
