Half dead means half alive.

I know I've had my fair share of successful runs that ended with no lives and no shields left. Never give up. Never surrender. If you haven't seen the Mission Failed/Game Over screen, you're still in the running. I got stuck on Narataki for TWO WEEKS (...of admittedly very very casual play) but you suck it up, you practice, and you keep going.

Or you quit and find a different game, I guess? Or lower the bar?

I'm bad at motivation.

I just ran through ORV with Legend and uploaded it here for demonstration purposes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuxNpzI0_6E

It's a no-miss and ends with a no-damage Golden Ruler, but isn't a great score and I stupidly put the Padlight display in the bottom-right instead of the left where it would be easier to view. Hopefully it's a useful demonstration of basic fixed burst and counterbursting technique, not just for xxx1993 but for anyone struggling with fixed bursts or counterbursts (I haven't seen anybody else add button displays to their DBCS videos, which surprises me considering how useful it could be for understanding counterbursts).

Fine, I'll keep trying, but I'll still like Astebreed more because I got used to that game quickly compared to this.

Not trying to be a dick, but if you like Astebreed more than this, why are you playing this? Life's too short and too full of IRL stuff like work and responsibility to play things you don't like in your spare time.

Maybe because people keep telling him to keep practicing? :P But yeah, Astebreed's a good game too, no reason not to play that instead if you'd rather do that.

I'm honestly pretty surprised I landed all my counterbursts in one run. I often mess up on getting the counterburst off the laser ship in Zone V (I find it safer to move out of the way and let them fire, then move back in and get the counterburst then, but I tried just timing it to the ticks this time and it worked out). Violent/Golden Ruler and Ancient Barrage/Slash Shell are the only ones I'm actually really consistent at counterbursting, I'm probably around 70-80% with other bosses provided I remember how the boss moves its beam.

Only telling him to keep practicing because I was under the assumption that he likes the game and wants to get better. Silly me!

I did a quick run-through of this mission to show Golden Ruler with burst autocharge cheese (Gaiden) instead of fixed burst cheese. I'd only faced GR 3-4 times before this so I don't have the patterns down, and there's some serious garbage throughout the whole run but oh well. Also my recording software is made out of a potato and I'm sorry about that. I don't really know what else to use. Anyway, hope this helps, maybe? If nothing else, a little bit of what not to do.

Gaiden can't counterburst with the black hole bomb right? I was just testing it out a bit in case I was missing something with the ship, but if there's a black hole counterbust I clearly don't see the timing.

Considering it already gets 96x from base 24x, a counter-BHB would be scary-awesome for scoring. Alas, no counter. Lasers are just as obnoxious for Gaiden as they are for Origin/Second.

Cool, good to know since it was bugging me a bit. I kinda like that lasers are a dangerous threat to the OG ships rather than a damage opportunity like they are for Burst ships. Awesome as the fixed burst mechanic is, the game is a lot more epic without it. Switching to Gaiden was the best decision I ever made.

Nope, no counterburst for Gaiden. That's Assault's main scoring advantage over Gaiden (Gaiden compensates for that by having a higher multiplier when not counterbursting and by not being impossible to use).

Gaiden's one of my favorite ships too, but Genesis is my personal favorite, with its ability to counterburst easily (though admittedly nailing the timing with the relevant ships is very satisfying), without the cheesiness of fixed burst. Genesis's options are also really useful since they can block shots and they allow you to keep point-blanking the boss even if you've got laser for your main shot and can't do much damage with that. The option kills (both with option shots and option ramming) is a bit silly but I haven't worried myself about that much yet.

Does anyone know if releases are region-locked on iTunes? I'll probably link the OST releases on the DBCS Steam page so more people can see them.

Gaiden makes me sad because it isn't rape strong like Origin/2nd and is actually kind of weak
It was super strong in Gaiden, so why not here? They could just idk make it move slower to compensate or something

o well can't have everything lol

Just did my first No Miss clear on Original EX route ORV with Legend and can confirm that Golden Ruler isn't so threatening when you have the Burst laser on hand.

Again, I only wanted Dariusburst in the first place because I wanted to fight Gigantic Bite and also do away with the Belsar forever. And besides, I thought Gigantic Bite made a very worthy final boss.

Besides, what's the only penalty of playing a mission with a bought ship than the preset one?

I'm fairly sure your highscore doesn't get uploaded if you use a bought ship

For itunes, you can make an account for any country but you can only make purchases for that country with a credit card if your billing address is in that country. Since I live in the US, I can only use my credit card to buy from the US store. I have a Japanese itunes account as well, but I have to purchase Japanese itunes gift cards from third-party sites and load up my account with yen that way when I want to purchase anything.

It is slightly irritating that Amazon prevents me from buying using my Norwegian credit card...

Just for reference, I just checked with Play-Asia, and it shipped out today. So realistically, I won't expect it for another week.

::sigh:

That's the pain I get for demanding a physical copy!

If memory serves me correct though, I think I chose the 'ship by tricycle' option, so it should be with me in time for whitsunday.

Anyone know what the latest 30MB update for the Steam version is for?

    EDIT: Nevermind. http://steamcommunity.com/games/377870/ ... 9453147553
Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours r4894 Update note

    • 64 new Cabinets have been added to Chronicle Mode

    • Fix to the setting ON/OFF for the left stick control for a ship being reflected on main menu.
    • CS Mode/Burst Rule: Fix to the burst gauge filling up during the pause
    • CABINET SELECT: Fix to the Network Error message being shown multiple times when failing to change Cabinet.

Will the PS4 version ever be patched? The lack of burst recharge in CS mode is a total bitch. Also on PS4 I get an error pretty much every time I try to look at the rankings. Is that just me or is it a common issue?

I assume Taito was working out these bugs prior to the Japanese release, so I just hope the Western version also gets patched.
