*Like I just said*, it will be harder than it looks just as survival in Gigawing, Psyvariar 2 or Ikaruga is harder than it looks. Those are games in which the uninitiated spectator doesn`t get the impression that you`re vulnerable judging from superplays, since there are many occasions in which you DIVE into bullets rather than avoiding them all the time. As long as its not completely clear what gets you killed and what not, it`s hard to judge.Rastan78 wrote:I have a funny feeling that survival will be a lot harder than it seems based on just watching the short superplays.

Looks like there's some sort of replay at gameup:
http://gameup.jpn.org/
Click on the name of the torrent that's 603.92 MB ( ピンクスゥイーツ_メミディ1-5面(バグ発動) ), then click on the red text ( ダウンロード ).
I'm still downloading this one...

Don't be fooled, this game is brutal. Yea you are invulnerable most of the time, but all it takes is that split second where you're not. Things get so hardcore in the final few levels, with shit coming from all sides, that you have to have the game really well memorized to not get crushed. I've seen guys go into stage 6 with 5 lives and get their entire credit munched within moments.Valgar wrote:I still don't understand how this game has any sort of challenge to it. You are invincible during the charge attack, which you can basically use..ALL THE TIME, and just the normal charge up stops normal bullets in front of you.

Thanks for the heads up! Just finished getting it.Triple Lei wrote:Click on the name of the torrent that's 603.92 MB ( ピンクスゥイーツ_メミディ1-5面(バグ発動) ), then click on the red text ( ダウンロード ).
It's a low-scoring no-miss up to stage6, using Meidi and Midi, and possibly an ALL, since t also includes the end-game credits. Quality is good on the replay though, so you can see the detail on the stages, and hear the goofy boss and stage music clearly (I like the boss music, btw ^_-).
The replay is missing the Cloud stage (st6) and the last boss, though.
EDIT: The game seems to take snapshots of your play periodically, and displays them as a slideshow during the credit roll. Nice touch. ^_^

Hi !
Thank you for the video.
Holy smoke ! This game looks really awful.
The boss design is crappy like hell...i think they have watched to much of spaceballs
The music...oh my god the music is really terrible.
Leveldesign: i think there is none.
There is nothing in this game that reminds me of the brilliant design of all the other cave games.
I hope they will release some good stuff soon (Mushihime sama 2
).
Greetings

After having played it, I found out visually and audibly underwhelming. I don't like the style, and the quality is not up to Cave's usual. However, it's not bad... I wouldn't dream of buying it until it came way down in price though.

maybe its just me but i like the style of this game a lot.the music is really cool and the robots and other toys look beautiful.cant wait for a port of this game (which is rather unlikely?)at least something very original from cave again and not just another cheap sequel (Espgaluda-Espgaluda 2)
the only negative aspect would be the difficulty.the player in the video plays at lowest rank possible but im afraid even at full rank this game is too easy

Looks like a funny game.
I like the soundtrack and soundeffects. - that laserreloadsound.
. Level 4 ? sounds a bit like ravi shankar.
- cool bosstrack for me, too.
The sprites to background composing looks a little cheap to earlier cavegames, but I couldn`t say that I don`t like the look of the game.
- Hopeing that cave left those white flashes and explosions for the next games. Mushihmesama has this, too. - a bit to shiny for me tired eyes.
Thanks Triple Lei for posting the link! :

Yeah, while it isn`t some sort of demonstrative play for others to see what you can do in it, it isn`t a proper score superplay on the other hand. I have a very mixed impression of that game, I like the boss music, but the backgrounds look like a cheap rehash of Galuda or something.Macaw wrote:Arrrgh watching replays like this is so frustrating!!! Those of you that still think it looks like cake will be eating your words when this game bites your dick off and throws it in the bushes. This is Cave, guys. If they give you what amounts to an endless bomb, do you really think they won't think of ways to turn it against you? All of the players I see getting far in the game skip the medals entirely.
On my first run I was doing that and going for survival and made it pretty far. Since then I started playing for score and have yet to clear stage 3. There's one part in stage 6 with rockets coming from all sides that lasts forever, it's about as hardcore as any section of a Cave game (at least in terms of first loops) that I've ever seen, harder than the descent in Ketsui's final stage even.
I suppose it's most similar to Ikaruga or Galuda in respects to survival vs score. I beat Galuda a day after I got it, but naturally to eke out all those points takes lots of time.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing more of this game. Not just because it has a strange visual style that I find quite funny, but because it has an original system that appears weak on the outside but maybe has tons of depth on the inside. The gameplay definitely has me interested, in that I'm now curious to know where the major source of points come from in a high scoring game.
I might get this if the PCB drops to a low enough price.
Just out of curiosity, NTSC-J, but do you know why players are purposely mising Medals in this game? Is it related to the rank system in any way?

Most likely from bomb-charge and boss milking (just like in Recca). Once your bomb is fully charged your score just starts rolling up. Plus, absorbing bullets into the charge gives you score. So I'd imagine that the top players are spending eons fighting bosses and abusing the bomb-charge/bullet-absorbtion.Icarus wrote:Just out of curiosity, NTSC-J, but do you know why players are purposely mising Medals in this game? Can you confirm this, NTSC-J?

Have you been reading? The last two stages are apparently the most difficult in a while.the only negative aspect would be the difficulty.the player in the video plays at lowest rank possible but im afraid even at full rank this game is too easy

you cant compare ddp-ddp-doj and espgaluda-espgaluda 2.IMO espgaluda 2 was just a rehash with adding some rather silly new idea (x500 bonus) DOJ was a completly new game (hypers, rank, looks completely different, completly different music etc etc and so on...)
espgaluda stayed more or less the same...
then again its just MY opinion!

Just out of curiosity, how much of it have you played?espgaluda stayed more or less the same...
Yu can easily say DOJ is just Dodonpachi w/ hypers and ranks (I would definitely not go so far as to say it looks completely different). In other words, it's a sequel. The new kakusei mode adds several layers of depth not found in the first, and I'm sure I'll get cained for this but fuck it, is a LOT funner than painfully unforgiving straight up chaining.

I'm a little disappointed after watching the video - for the first few stages, the player hardly uses the "bomb" attack at all. I had first assumed it would be more like, say, Mars Matrix, where you'd be essentially forced to use it frequently. Maybe this is the case in later stages and high scoring runs, but it looks like an "easy" play of the game, at least in the first half or so, can be very mechanically dry.

I gave the game a few more tries this afternoon and am about ready to write it off as Cave's worst game. It just isn't very fun. The look is confused, music sucks. I like the different ship types though. It is really hard, I got all of my lives taken from the stage 3 mid-boss on one run. Waiting that one second for the bomb to refill can be a maddening one second, makes for some tense gameplay.
In short, I'm about ready to go down to Cave's office to ask how far along they are on dai ou jou 2.
