Interesting. The touch is the only iOS device I own, so if it works for anyone, lemme know! I'm holding off on getting this until I know that it's a better use of my money than putting it in the sink and lighting it on fire.Enemy wrote: Possible that it's only a problem with the iPod touch then ...

Played on a friend's 4Gs. Thank fuck I did not shell out for this bag of shit on my 3Gs is all I can say. It's basically unfit for purpose even on the faster phone. Way to go Taito, now all you've got to do is fuck up Puzzle Bobble and you're pretty much dead to me. Oh, wait...

Re: Rayforce is coming to iOS
So it was bad on another 4gs ... Why is it bad on some peoples equipment and not others as someone else said it worked fine on their 4gs. And yes I have done the whole close all apps and reboot.Marc wrote:Played on a friend's 4Gs. Thank fuck I did not shell out for this bag of shit on my 3Gs is all I can say. iphone 4 here
Works just fine. Does the game start out buggy? So far I've only gotten to stage 4 on my runs but its running just fine.

On the iPod touch 4g it is buggy from the moment the actual game starts, menus are ok though.
Re: Rayforce is coming to iOS
OK, I caved and ditched my dumbphone for an iPhone 4S. I got RayForce, and tried it on both my iPod Touch 4th Gen and the iPhone 4S. It's pretty good on the 4S-- I didn't detect any choppy movement, but there were very small pauses before the bosses and between levels. No biggie.Enemy wrote:Avatar Ignis wrote:iphone 4 here

The iPod is a different story. It's pretty choppy during most of the game, and I think the sound even clicks a bit. Ugh. It's not unplayable, but I couldn't recommending blowing $12 on it if I only had an iPod unless it was the only way I could play RayForce.
Control in general is good. It's satisfying enough to play it in the mode without any on-screen buttons, though obviously setting lasers to auto makes scoring a little trickier. It's pretty smart though-- it only releases lasers when you've either not locked onto anything for maybe a half second, or when you've reached a good number of locks.
There's a level select too. And you can choose to either limit speed (like the arcade one) or whip around the screen like a maniac. All things considered, it's a reasonable port. It's just disappointing that the requirements are so high, especially considering it's for 1994 hardware and even the older iPhones are magnitudes faster.

Re: Rayforce is coming to iOS
Works great on ipad 2, but laggy on my 4th gen ipod. Definitely a different feel than Cave's iOS ports though - but once I got used to it, really started to enjoy it. Great overall design, wicked music + memorable bosses.
Re: Rayforce is coming to iOS
Can I say Taito can go to hell, Its now coming up to the end of March and they were aware of this problem of poor framerate from day 1/2 and no update to sort the problem. If they have no intention of fixing this then give people a refund as the game is broken to ipod touch 4g users.

Re: Rayforce is coming to iOS
Just got this email from taito, fingers crossed all sorted then ....
Dear Customer,
An update for RayForce is scheduled April, and every effort has been made to improve the performance of the game.
Should your issue persist after the update we suggest you contact Apple for a refund.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

That's good to hear they're at least trying.

upd. On iPad2 framerate is well. But it doesnt change a thing/

Re: Rayforce is coming to iOS
Actually, I think it could work well. If they had an "original" mode whereby you use on on-screen touch joypad/stick and then on-screen action buttons, that would satisfy "purists". I could see also see an "iDevice" or "mobile" mode where you drag your finger around on the screen to move, and potentially target lock by tapping on the enemies (with another hand/finger, presumably) you want to target and then an action button to activate the lock-on lasers. Or even a tweak of that mode so it would allow for automated release once you hit your target lock max, all while auto-firing the main weapon. It would be enough of a change in the game to make it play quite a bit differently than the original and could be an interesting "remix".MathU wrote:Again I have to ask myself why anyone would be excited to play a high-skill arcade games on a crappy touchscreen with no buttons. In any event, it appears they have implemented this to some extent, though probably not quite that involved. And sadly, it's for iPhone only. I'd pay the $12 they're asking for an iPad version (because this happens to be one of my favorite Taito shmups), but not for use on my iPhone. Far too small a screen to fully play and appreciate this game

"SMARTPHONES ONLY HAVE CRAPPY GAMES FOR GRANDMOTHERS LIKE ANGRY BIRDS"
(developers port awesome arcade games to iOS)
"I DON'T SEE WHY ANYONE WOULD BE EXCITED TO PLAY INCREDIBLY AWESOME GAMES ON A SMARTPHONE"
