Man, after you beat the Twin Drills boss in the underground level, the board speeds up and traps you. I can't tell solid objects and I crash and explode. Thats where I'm stuck at right now. I haven't had this shmup long but I still think its cool and enjoyable...definitely high quality stuff.

Fight Like A Robot!
A little more practice and level 2 gets pretty easy, It's level 4 that really pisses me off. There's no clear path a lot of times, or just mines in the way. The diagonal scrolling, plus all those obstacles and enemies, just makes it absurd. I like the game, but I think I've gotten all the enjoyment I can out of it.

I was happy when i first heard Söldner-X would come out on PSN but I still havn't bought it. Mostly because I wanted to read some reviews first. The problem is that opionions seem to differ a lot on this one. 1UP gives it a score of 25 while others score it well above 60, how can this be? If that happened to any other major title there would be controversy!
So this is where goold shmups forum come in and rescue the day? Well atleast I have a somewhat better idea now than before i started reading this thread.

Could this be because different reviewers give priotrity to different aspects of the game, which may or may not be seen as equally good? Nope, unlikely. :PInkvisitor wrote:The problem is that opionions seem to differ a lot on this one. 1UP gives it a score of 25 while others score it well above 60, how can this be?

I finally got my hands on the PS3 version. It plays a lot better with the analog joystick just as I suspected when i tried the PC version. This is making it more enjoyable as a game I think. At times there is a lot happening on screen making it hard to spot enemies or walls. This does not stop me from having some fun
Söldner-X is a game after all.

I was looking forward to this title and have to say after playing soldner-X for an hour I am disappointed. Now I play my Shmups on a 46” screen, so detail is not only important but prominent too. I was expecting 1080p in all its glory with soldner-X, full vibrant colour, exceptional detail, challenging levels, innovative bosses etc etc but instead the back drops and the sprites lack detail, look dull, lack imagination, and simply look as if the developer rushed it.
The first stage isn’t so bad, music is fine, the weapons still suck but it’s passable, it's only when you it the second stage you realise the game doesn’t live up to the hype. The game has too much going on. I couldn’t care less of the chain system and strategic weapons selection; I just want to point and shoot!
Superstar Dust HD on the PS3 owns Soldner – X and it is no irony the Solder-X is more expensive than SSHD yet plays worse.
The devil is in the detail and Solder-X lacks it.

What shooter does? I'd love to know...... I've never another 1080p shooter on my TV.I was expecting 1080p in all its glory with soldner-X
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

And I very much doubt that this is the game's native resolution.Udderdude wrote:Raiden IV runs at 1920x1200 on my LCD. Of course it doesn't take up the full screen in tate mode, since it's 4:3.Strider77 wrote:What shooter does? I'd love to know...... 3D games are hard to pin down with a "native resolution", since 3D models can scale in resolution pretty easily. It seems Raiden IV runs at 640x480 native, however the 360 port can redraw the entire screen at a higher res, like almost every modern 3D game can. It looks perfectly fine at this resolution, too.ex.machina wrote:And I very much doubt that this is the game's native resolution.Udderdude wrote:Raiden IV runs at 1920x1200 on my LCD. Didn't see the thread, anyone else have sound issues?
right channels keep dropping out. I quit out and played a few other PS3 games for a few hours with no trouble, went back in and started having problems again.
I quite like the game, only issue i really have is that some of the enemies blend a little too well with the background.
Reminds me of the amiga era of gaming (with a touch of Border Down) for some reason.

Blast Factor and super Stardust HD are both 1080P native res. What shooter does? I'd love to know...... I've never another 1080p shooter on my TV.

Cool! I loved the Söldner-X OST (more than the actual game in fact)
Best of luck with your company, hope to hear more from you soon!

Re: The beginning of shmups on ps3 Soldner-X
Finally picked up this shmup this week (PS3 ver.), and my first thought after playing it for a short time, is that the game screams "Amiga game in HD". It's a novelty to see a brand new high-definition title on the market in that style, even if it brings along many of the failings of that era of euroshmups. (At times it also reminds me somewhat of the Playstation title "X2".) I don't expect to be playing this much, but as a nostalgic Amiga fan, I'm glad someone made this kind of game on a modern system. The colorful backgrounds light up a large HDTV screen well & soundtrack is nice enough for the small asking price on PSN.

Re: The beginning of shmups on ps3 Soldner-X
It being one of the few traditional shmups on the Playstation 3 I just had to purchase it, despite not liking the PC version very much.
But after playing this it felt like a different, much better than I remembered, game.
Maybe it's the console environment (more familiar control) or some difficulty tweaks (it seems easier on Normal), but I am really enjoying this atm.
Graphics & sound are as awesome as ever, and I think I finally got to grips with the powerup/weapons system.
So the prospect of a sequel suddenly doesn't necessarily sound like a bad thing at all.
